The Wraith is good fun I always remember finding the vhs cover pretty cool as a kid. Gotta love Clint Howard too 😀

My new hobby is to read a book and then immediately watch the movie that I either haven't seen or haven't seen in ages.

Recent reads/watches have been:

Jurassic Park
Alive
Misery
The Shining

All books have been good. Misery was the best movie with The Shining being the worst.

If anyone has any recommendations......FYI I'm not a fan of the supernatural.

Hold the Dark is a fantastic novel and a pretty good movie. I'm a sucker for Jeremy Saulnier, acquired his rookie card back when Blue Ruin was on the festival circuit, even had the chance to interview him and Macon Blair.

Heretic could very well be my favorite script of the year. Hugh Grant chews up every damn scene in a film that lets you have your cake and eat it, too. A couple of young Mormom girls visit his house to discuss their faith with him. He invites them inside (it's pouring rain, on the verge of becoming a storm)and tells them his wife is in the kitchen cooking pie. Reluctantly they accept his invitation and it starts off innocent enough, but it quickly becomes unnerving. The house is very dark, had an eerie hallway I would never walk down. It contains a lot of entertaining conversation and even digs at various religious beliefs. I was blown away by how much I enjoyed this. Highly recommend it.

There’s no doubt in my mind that I’d have gone neck deep into Scientology to be with Leah Remini back then….. Might actually check this one out.

She just has a cameo. This is the only scene with her and Brendan. It stars Ben Affleck, Sam Rockwell and a few others. They play college roommates who are about to graduate and move away but decide to stay another year. It's not great, but it is pretty fun.

Emelia Perez by Jacques Audiard

It's like Umbrellas of Cherborg meets I don't know what. Let's just say it involves a lawyer, the head of a cartel, and a transgender woman. I suppose it's a musical/drama.

On Netflix. Definitely worth seeing.

Never Let Me Go - great book and movie

Every year since I was about 10 I've watched It's A Wonderful Life at Christmas time. Every year, I bawl at the ending.

A lot of fans didn't know, but Rod Serling made a xmas movie, Carol for Another Christmas .

A made for TV movie sponsored by the United Nation's and ABC.

It stared Sterling Hayden, Peter Sellers, Ben Gazara, Robert Shaw and Eve Marie Saint... Music by Henry Mancini.

It is really Dark film, and is kind of burried by modern distribution.

Trailer for Death of a Unicorn is nuts.

Anora
I think Dom is selling the movie short. The sex with Vanya, vs in the car with Igor. Still thinking about that final scene.
Real question for me: Ani sells sex, but she buys the marriage bit? Does she not understand who/what Vanya is? Does she really think there's a gold mine there?

Only knew Mikey Madison as the oldest daughter in "Better Things", good show that was worth catching as it aired.

Mudbound
That's post ww2 Mississippi? F That. Movie lives up to the awards and acclaim.

The Substance was a tough watch and well worth it. I'm not a horror fan at all, and this reached my limit. I wish it was just 10% less goofy at the end. I never understood the concept of "brave" nudity, but I can't think of a better term for this movie. (Moore and Qualley)

Best use of sex/nudity lately was Normal People. Memorable.

Every time I watch it, I wish this had been the ending:

Went to the hotel last night where The Exotic Marigold Hotel was filmed. Naturally, it's running on a loop in the bar.

Apparently, some of Octopussy was filmed in the lake below.

The Mist by Stephen King.

One film I liked but hate it now, will never watch again because life has changed my perspective.

The Taste of Things - incredibly French film about cooking and slow burning romance. Juliette Binoche and the guy she works for communicate their love through cooking, not words. Lots of scenes of food preparation. The film seems to be set in some fantasy land where people eat all day, love in grand houses, no evidence of paid work or income. Surprisingly more absorbing than it sounds.

The French know what they are doing with storytelling...
Meanwhile in the United States, the major Hollywood studios are spending several hundreds of millions of dollars on each release while making children's comic book stories.

Nosferatu, meh.

Great novel. Not a great film.

Agreed, was pretty disappointed after hearing a lot of hype.

Thought it really lacked in tension for 80% of the film. Mostly felt bored. Acting and cinematography were good though.

I haven't seen the movie in over twenty years, but if I'm not mistaken, Shadow of the Vampire is really good.
