British Politics
Been on holiday for a few weeks, surprised to find no general discussion of British politics so though I'd kick one off.
Tory leadership contest is quickly turning into farce. Trump has backed Boris, which should be reason enough for anyone with half a brain to exclude him.
Of the other candidates Rory Stewart looks the best of the outsiders. Surprised to see Cleverly and Javid not further up the betting, but not sure the Tory membership are ready for a brown PM.

Regarding the LD leadership contest, Jo Swinson is miles ahead of any other candidate (and indeed any of the Tory lot). Should be a shoe in.
Finally, it's Groundhog Day in Labour - the more serious the anti-Semitism claims get, the more Corbyn's cronies write their own obituary by blaming it on outlandish conspiracy theories - this week, it's apparently the Jewish Embassy's fault...
yes and 85% of all traffic accidents are caused by drivers 25 years old and up
a scandal that 17 to 24 year olds are overcharged by insurance companies given how much safer they are
are asylum seekers really put in front of the line for healthcare access as this article claims , in the UK?
Yes and they get to stay in the ritz. Chauffeur driven cars next if us lefties get our way.
oh boy Owen Jones' whataboutism clearly never addresses the nuances, as per usual. eg lefty constant playing the 'you raised race, so you're a bigot' makes people fear for their jobs/reputation once the race of an offender comes into play.
labour want three and a half years to come up with a social care policy lmao - 'report to be delivered in 2028'

People are trying to use it to argue against immigration and refugees. That has to be addressed
Also 'whataboutism' is a often a good thing.
special property tax so that all the old ****ers who own everything in this country can pay for their own ****
done
Too much of the country is owned by rich ****ers way beyond the property they own here to tax.
We need to own much more of it.
what did you have in mind
how
Some things we have to do:
Dont let them own stuff. We have to own it and nurture it. Heathcare, development land, post office, bbc, energy etc etc etc etc
Invest hard in the latest tech and retain ownership of it.
I suspect we will need a UBI
International cooperation
Data ownership
Sure tax them as well.
That should keep the lefties steeeting and starmer busy for a while
THAT'S SOCIALISM!
ok i was looking for ideas on how we fund social care
The only way we fund anything and everything. Income and taxation from a healthy economy.
Social care is part and parcel of it. Along with housing it's probably the quickest and easiest measure to improve productivity/growth in a healthy robust manner. But none of it works if we dont also start to address the rest because the superrich will just carry on taking the profits and leaving underinvested crap behind them (sometimes literal crap)
Unlike starmer who now just seems to be desperately looking for any ideas for a quick boom so he can say he got his growth.
I see no real problem in the state executing these people
All rape gangs are terrible, obviously, and every single one of them deserves the harshest sentences possible. But there's something even more disgusting and dehumanising and inhuman, when one cultural group targets another cultural group for such brutality.

you won't have a healthy economy if you drive away your best and brightest, which in this economy in particular matter really a lot for development.
this is a winner take all economy which means that you are cater to and nurture real winners, making your country a place where someone better than almost everyone else wants to live, or you lose.
that's the game today and rational people understand that.
build a country where the exceptional most successful people in the world want to live and pay taxes (moderate amount). everyone else matters very little for a country success.
the top 1% is the only reason you don't have the per Capita GDP of Bulgaria.
is the guardian peddling far right propaganda, or is the labour government really not trying rape cases fast enough because "it lacks lawyers" for real?

I agree that we've been driving away the brightest and the best for many decades now.
We definitely need to make the country a place where they want to live - leading edge/excellence at their work, decent home affordability, healthcare, education for their kids, good public services etc etc etc etc
Really couldn't agree more.
