Remember when these things used to be monthly? What were they averaging back then? What percentage was mets?

Went back and looks like 2013-15 monthly pubs were averaging around 4 or 5 thousand posts.

You should have seen the avatars that were considered fine.

I think you’ll find that this subforum has above average men in it, and that they’ve paid close attention to the female posters here who did push back against a lot of the casual misogyny. You should listen to them.

I respect and admire Amplify deeply, and filthy is one of my closest male friends for over 10 years. They had my back through many similar exchanges.

VR is right that you took something and overstepped. Dating is not sexual in and of itself. You assigned a specific sexual act to the extenuating of the joke, and it was offensive. You are in the wrong.

It would be exceedingly simple to take one small step back, admit that it wasn’t your intention bit it was the result, and give that some thought.

that will not ever be acceptable and i'm not going to placate punxsutawney reader after she uses such vile and unwarranted tactics

as a graduate of one of the most liberal of liberal arts institutions, roughly half my college courses were heavily involved in feminist thought and theory so i'm probably way more aware of the reality of what she literally said than most in the thread who are not quite grasping the severity of her slander

ie alarm bells were going off when i saw the exchange going on between her and xander as the primary training for responding to sexual harassment at the work place is asking the person to explain the joke

your boss calls you sugartits, you don't complain and tell him to stop because then you look like a whiny bish on the rag who isn't a team player and it just becomes a self fulfilling confirmation of "see this is why we can't have women on submarines"

so you ask your boss to explain why he calls you sugar tits and intentionally play dumb like you don't get it, in most cases when pressed to explain why he's calling you sugartits, since he won't have a good explanation he'll be forced to openly confront that what is calling her is inappropriate and will stop without the women getting the "women be crazy" response

vr clearly attempted this, but unlike with sugartits, there was an extremely good and logical explanation, hence why xander jumped in and was like "because of this dummy" and as i read along and saw she still insisted that I explain it myself was pretty much confirmation of the tactic she was engaging in

however, in her zealotry, she forgot to realize that sometimes there are good explanations, like when the boss responds with "well your given name is sugar and your surname is tits so we call you by your name sugar tits the same we do here with bob smith, would you prefer we call you by a nickname instead?"

so when her "explain it to me" thing collapsed, she didn't sit back and re-evaluate the situation and review the very logical explanation for the progression that had zero to do with misogyny but nope she then doubled down and went on a full assault calling me those nasty and vile things directly

and for those who are unaware, choosing the bear means that on average, any random male you run into in the woods in not only sick and deranged and is going to do terrible things to you, but what they will do to you will be so horrific that it'd be preferable to be mauled to death by a bear - so now we're in crazy town since apparently i'm now a threat to her life (but importantly, so are all of you, it's not rickroll vs the bear, it's any man vs the bear)

i'm not going to reward this kind of stuff, you post like this without the shield of misogyny and we'd be very correctly concerned about vr's mental health rather than the baseless accusations and horrific insults she sent my way for which I'm the one who needs to apologize??? ffs

I didn't think that bear/man thing was meaning at all that it was preferable to be killed by a bear.... i thought the meaning was that the bear is less likely to harm you than the man will

and most bears leave people alone, basically all the time, or like 99.9% of the time

it's absolutely deranged thinking either way and speaks volumes to her prejudice and mindset entering the situation, how she's looking for monsters under the bed, same with comparing my comment to people stalking her irl and taking her photo

and fwiw, i made it abundantly clear early on what the meaning behind the comment was and how it was in no shape nor form a dig on her, she just had a cross to bear and wanted to continue carrying it - i have no interest in indulging her quixotic quest

I'm about halfway through the latest Stormlight Archive book. I think Sanderson is in over his head in this one.

I don't know when it started for me. Anybody who remembers me from my first run on POG knows it was after I left here. I'm glad most of those archives are gone.

I remember when the #NotAllMen thing was trending on Twitter, (which was maybe before the Me Too stuff, or at the same time?) and it having a big impact on me. It legitimately may have been the first time I really thought that other people didn't experience the world in the same way I did. I was in my mid-30s, was married, had 2 kids, and I managed a team of 30 people - it's pretty upsetting how far I got in life before developing even basic empathy

calling me a vile pos who hates all women because i pointed out the problem with her joke is "pushes back even a tiny bit"

i'm actually speaking based on evidence presented whereas she started this endeavor with an assumption that no amount of reality will refute

* the joke is stupid people will think she's gone on millions of dates
*as this is framed by her as a brag, it's her highlighting how many dates she's been on, now whether or not one puts out on a date or not is one thing, but it's undeniable that the goal of a date is to find a sexual partner, furthermore, there is only one obvious conclusion to "bragging" about telling people you've gone on millions of dates in that you've banged a lot of people - because again, she framed it as something she told only to stupid people who will draw that obvious conclusion

that's what actually happened, i feel like the only calm person in the room

xander got it, so did pwnsall, as did many more but nobody wants the kind of heat i'm getting from virtue signalers right now

i don't refute that misogny exists and that women are often treated poorly online, especially in male dominated forums such as this one, but that doesn't give them carte blanche to baselessly attack any male who points out the flaw in their joke did so because he's an evil monster who hates women

and frankly, what bothers me even more so is how much these kind of shenanigans do to harm the movement in general

it's posts like this which discredit a lot of valid claims of misogyny
