thin value?

thin value?

1/2 live game, villain is loose passive fish

I open AsQd in the LJ to 10, villain calls BTN, blinds fold

Flop: Jh 7h 2s

check, check

Turn: 3s

check, check

River: 3h (Pot: 23)

I bet 5, villain tank folds.

Is this too thin for value? Imo I'm very likely good here unless villain has something weird like K2s, or checks a 7 on both the flop and turn but seems hard to get called by worse.

Line is overall fine. Occasionally you will just get called by a hand that would have bet larger. And you can get called by a worse A high or K high hand. Sometimes you want to bluff catch with A high, but vs a loose passive fish, they are probably unlikely to bluff.

I wouldn't put too much thought into it. Our line is very similar to checking at the end of the day.

Yes, it's too thin -- mainly because you are almost never getting value and only getting called by better.

Personally, I bet flop or turn.

I appreciate you milking every bb of value and maximally exploiting people's passivity, but you're a little too close to the bottom of showdown value for this to be a value bet even for this size.

I think something like bottom pair-top kicker would be the bottom of your value range, even for the meme size. Any 7x is my standard bottom of value range for a normal size.

I'm not sure why you checked the flop. "Loose-passive fish" have all sorts of hands that completely missed this raggedy flop.

Fair, I just didn't see them having much better by the river. I prefer checking flop and turn OOP in single raise pots, the weak players in my pool tend to play really faceup against it, betting 7x and better and having a really capped checking range

lol i think a blockbet size is absolutely fine here (just maybe with a slightly better hand) and we don't just need to use a "normal size". We get called by A-high when we do this size a lot more and villains at my stake pretty much never raise a bluff here so don't have to worry about getting pushed off of my hand

I'm not sure what you are targeting though with A high. If you had a 2 then $5 makes sense but might be too thin?

Blinds: $1/2
Hero: LJ (A️ Q️)
Villain(s): BTN
Effective Stack: $200

Preflop ($3):
Hero raises $10, BTN calls

Flop ($23): J️ 7️ 2
Hero checks, BTN checks

Turn ($23): J️ 7️ 2️ 3
Hero checks, BTN checks

River ($23): J️ 7️ 2️ 3️ 3
Hero bets $5, BTN folds

Total pot: $28

I think we're saying the same thing, just with different words.

bet the turn if he's not going to bluff and just deny his equity. obv its face up but vs bad players it doesnt matter, they only see their own cards.

It’s cool that you’re trying to go for value. But I think this is a little too thin.

thanks, that's the whole point of this thread lol. I feel like there are lots of spots to increase my winrate with these thin valuebets against absurdly capped ranges, but yeah this did seem thin
