How convenient is it that he just falls off the face of the earth after issuing and bailing half way through a 50k hand challenge when he goes down over a million dollars?
He come out a year or so ago and said that he has this "big" problem with FTP that he would address once he had a decent nights sleep, what ever happened here?
He agreed to pay penalties on a monthly basis for not playing an agreed amount of hands with jungle, did cates ever receive any of the penalty money? I think it's about time the community got some answers. There was a lot of money placed on the outcome of the match which never got resolved, as you can imagine anyone who took jungle's side must be pretty aggrieved.
Ike and Justin bonomo was both judges along with Ivey being escrow, from what I remember Ivey wanted nothing to do with any of the decision making after dwan went AWOL which lead to phil sending jungle his 500k back. What's the point of having judges in any bet if they can't actually enforce any rulings?
If anyone else had bailed on a bet of this size when he should have escrowed the 1.5million it would be a much bigger deal.
To add to that he's listed to play in the 500k super high roller at the aria
I suspect Dwan’s time as the Triton gang’s golden boy foreigner has been over for some time, which explains why he’s attached himself to these other Chinese handlers. Actually seems like most of these Chinese VIPs are better than him at poker now.

maybe this is why hes been playing on HCL a lot. getting backed by HCL so they promote their streams and include the name Tom Dwan in the titles.
Personally, I started watching only the HCL streams when Dwan appeared cuz the other players didn't interest me that much but now even Dwan is not enough to make up for how boring and a lot of times how obnoxious those streams can get.
I’m kind of surprised he’s even playing in these streams anymore. He doesn’t have the edge he used to, but even more so he’s probably been burned out on Holdem for several years now. What excitement would it possibly bring him to play regularly anymore. Wasn’t he mostly into short deck recently when not messing playing craps or whatever?

Short deck is painfully boring. I cant imagine playing that for any extended period of time. Seems to be the common opinion as well as it has more or less died out even in the asian highroller Triton scene.
Dwan probably cleans up in the LA private games. He hasn't been wearing his ACR patch lately.
Maybe it was spur of the moment and he didn't have access, but seeing Tom sitting with 20K at times and reloading 20K while Keating had 300K+ and other bad-regs had 100K+ was kind of sad

Pretty obvious that if Dwan had (access to) deeper pockets he would be playing as deep as possible and covering the whales in the games he plays. Hes still doing better than a .5/.10 grinder on 2+2 but he was doing much better in the past than he does now, undoubtedly.

Only the alcohol delayed my mental breakdown that long...
I can remember many days where i didnt have enough money to reload my 4th table on PokerStars, despite having more than 1500$ online... When i was only grinding 25$ tables... Sitting 300$ to 800$ deep on three tables, with several others having +250$ (1000bb stacks), too. That deep, you could float till river without blockers and rep any change on board by shoving... Until you got caught...
Even when not playing deep, winning or losing 40 buy-ins in a day was a frequent occurence over less than 2k hands. Once i won 200$ at 2$ tables in one day...
100bb is the most boring game that exists, and +250bb you fold AK and KK vs shoves against many opponents...
T9s has like 40% vs AA...

Average .5/.10 grinder absolutely does not have any of these things. Average .5/.10 hobby player, sure. Average .5/.1 grinder lives in a rented shitty apartment or parents basement hoping that he will ascend to Dwan's stakes one day, which will never happen.

In Asia or Us? Honestly his poker is very likely not in top two tiers anymore. Anyhow, getting into good games with rich backers is more important than skill in poker.

I’ve got a hunch that ‘our’ broke and ‘his’ broke are 2 different things. The ability to be staked into nosebleeds by very wealthy people who will also throw you a bone if you are short on cash (because irl money vs nosebleeds is irrelevant), is quite a decent situation to be in financially. But I guess he’s buried 7-8figs so surprised the rich are putting him in but perhaps they don’t know he’s -ev. Would love to hear more of you can?
