In other news

In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.

I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.

Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.

The fire in the hollyweird hills started when they had no electricity on the mountain.

There are definitely some anomalies in these fires.

Wow. When I see a vid like that with lots of white arrows pointing places on maps, combined with a big neon "THIS IS NOT NORMAL!" caption across the screen, it makes me think that this might not be normal after all. The exclamation mark adds weight to it too.
That said it's kinda weird all these conspiracies are happening simultaneously innit? That Texan ISIS dude, that other dude who blew himself up in the Tesla, those dudes who tried to shoot Trump. And now this. Really makes you think. And want to open a rumble account.

You are in SCal right now?

by Rococo k

You are in SCal right now?

Rural San Diego county-- just got back from hiking a desert section of the Pacific Crest Trail. Nicest area I've lived in the US.

I've ALWAYS felt that LBJ was responsible and that LHO was truly misdirection.

by rickroll k

no this is not what happened

you made an absurd statement that i refuted

you responded with "omg i would never say such nonsense"

i quoted the exact nonsense you said

and now we're at the "i was joking" part where this usually goes to eventually

i like you, you're a great poster, but this was pure bad faithed garbage posting where your intention is to incite rather than discuss

Dude you can try to run interference for the near constant stream of insanity conservatives dump into the airways these days all you want. And try to point out--but dude it's like not every single person man. And I will just continue laughing lol.

There's very little difference between pb&j2k(And tbh most of the conservatives/longtime r voters I've known for decades that are friends generally aren't into the zaniness but they will hit the usual talking points like clockwork--once it gets out into family/acquaintances/others I know--there are tons deep in the soup--and I've said as much in other posts numerous times over the years) and musk/trump's constant stream of bs. Any adults in the room lost out to them years ago. So keep paddling--but back here in reality the people about to be in charge are talking about taking over a ~half dozen of our allies.

In closing it was a perfect post and some great people are saying it's one of the truest posts ever made on the internet. And the fake news liberal media know it too 😀

+1. I would repeat this at every rally.

Keep going, maybe in due time if you work hard enough republicans will get a filibuster beating majority in the Senate as well.

Hard to accomplish but you guys are on the correct path toward that.

Never even try any approach to get a single voter back.

Insult all of them and treat them like they are all garbage.

I mean the technocratic centerleft tried that in France and the Netherlands and they are at single digit in elections, who knows, maybe your party can get there as well.

And you can avoid all responsibility by claiming "you aren't a democrat" so you can't lose

I hope Trump immediately fixes this corrupt agency.

Our own people are not being taken care of while we're sending hundreds of billions of dollars to Ukraine like it's water. These people from NC have been waiting months for permanent housing. They lost everything and their government's been dragging their feet.

Playb, money has been sent to Ukraine with the vote of republicans.

Stop using that as some sort of example of what happened before Trump. Trump was the candidate for POTUS of the republican party, and republicans voted to send money to Ukraine.

It's the same people you will need for every bill in Congress trump wants to pass.

There are a lot of horrific things democrats did without republican votes, focus on those.

Biden has stolen almost 200 billions from the pockets of taxpayers to give to his voters with student debts (that's the portion he technically could legally steal, the rest was blocked by courts because it was an illegal theft attempt).

Why focus on Ukraine, which republicans agreed with?

I'm curious what you think should be done with that Ukraine money. Is every American victim of a natural disaster to have all their needs, housing and expenses covered by the govt, full stop?
As an extreme left Marxist I would love the richest country in the history of the world to do this for their citizens. Are we on the same team?

No you didn’t but I want to make sure I understand the point you are making. Are you claiming the ground in the palisades was dry because of water usage 60 miles north for strawberry growers? So the groundwater run off goes to the Thousand Oaks municipal water system?

Or is it that water diverted to strawberry growers would have gone to the palisades?

And are you referring the the Central Valley Project and water going to the San Joaquin Valley?

Did I miss your answer to this?

I opined that the ground in the hills above the palisades was drier than it would otherwise had been because some groundwater from there got diverted elsewhere, and that was a cofactor in the intensity of wildfires.

But 5-south already convinced me even if the above was correct, it played a minor role at most compared to other co-factors. And then there is the big ?? about arsonists, the more arsonists are behind the events the less the rest matters and viceversa.

In some sense democrats responsibilities would be lower if the talk about arsonists playing a major part were true.

Why does everyone have to think about causation and severity like a toddler? Regardless of how a fire starts, it is entirely possible for negligence on the part of government/utilities or factors resulting from climate change to make the fire much more devastating.

It's curios that the idea that climate change could have made them *less* intense is not even considered as a possibility, like if climate "change" had to always be inherently negative for human beings, always a co factor increasing intensity / frequency of bad events, magically always a change to the worse.

It's almost illegal at this point to entertain the idea that change in the climate because of warming can ever have any positive effect at all, i wonder why

If you've been following what I've been saying for years, it's not a republican vs democrat issue. There are probably more corrupt republicans than democrats. The system is broken.

Ecological systems are slow to adapt to rapid climate change. So every time there is rapid climate change, a large % of species of plants and animals go extinct. This is evolutionary biology and ecology 101, and has happened several times before, and is clearly happening now.

Now life does evolve and bounce back, and new plants and animals fill the emptied and new ecological niches. So the climate change alarmism has a built in value system that it is better to have the flora and fauna we have now, than see most of it wiped out and replaced.

Now, from an anthropological perspective there is a problem that places where massive amounts of people live, including but not limited to Africa, Middle East and Bangladesh regions are becoming increasingly uninhabitable for people to live; so the world is going to have to figure out a way to deal with it.

For example Yemen is mostly uninhabitable desert, but has 60 million people and rapidly growing thanks to their society embracing religious fundamentalism combined with generous western aid that sustains their population growth. And I am guessing you wouldn't want them all to be transplanted to Europe, which would be a solution based on your reasoning.

Calling it "reasoning" is a stretch. The Colonel never thinks beyond the small sphere of his life. He's like a four-year-old.

Very strange how, like Maui where houses with blue roofs and other blue items miraculously survived the wildfires, now we're seeing items with a blue color miraculously survive the CA "wildfires".

Let's see how long it takes for this story to disappear. Maybe that will tell us there's something more to it.

https://abc7ny.com/post/california-wildf...

This reporter, while I was watching it live, picked up a blue recycle bin because she thought it was odd it didn't melt. To her amazement, the items that were inside were all melted, but it didn't melt the plastic. She kept turning it around to show the camera while she was almost speechless.

I wonder what's causing these anomalies...

BREAKING NEWS - U.S. regulators finally ban the food coloring called "Red 3" from the food supply, only 35 years after it was banned from cosmetics because of cancer risks.

Other than at the very margin (coldest and hottest areas), climate warming just moves species around though, no need for exctinction events.

As for masses of people living in hot countries, that's not my problem and the solution if they try to violently take our stuff is obvious, easy and cheap

by Didace k

Calling it "reasoning" is a stretch. The Colonel never thinks beyond the small sphere of his life. He's like a four-year-old.

I wrote several times about how a 3 celsius hotter bangladesh in 2080 would still be a far better place to live than current Bangladesh because of economic growth.

And in case they still want to move, it's not "4y old " to claim you solve the problem with violence, as all problems when other people want to take your stuff can be solved or trespass your property.

I am not going to feel responsible for people that didn't exist 100 years ago and if they wanted to explode their demographic numbers in areas that aren't able to sustain their numbers that's NOT MY PROBLEM AT ALL , not my responsibility, and it's easy to avoid them causing problems to us if they try.

I mean most of them are only alive because of our antibiotics and other medical advancements , they owe their very existence to us and us alone for the most part, it's not like we have any other moral obligation, we already did more than any other human grouop did to benefit humanity by a huge margin, even including "climate change" negatives.

A bangladesh without any western invented technology innovation and institution would be an horrifyingly worse place to live in even if 2 celsius colder.
