Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD
Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...
These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.
To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.
Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
looks like Israel is going to back out. doubt they had any intention to follow through in the first place and this was just a ruse to use deceitfulness to achieve what they couldnt on the battlefield. true scumbaggery. maybe Donnie Deals will apply some more pressure.
Israel is delaying Cabinet approval mainly because Netanyahu's far-right coalition partners are throwing a tantrum at the prospect of any deal with Hamas and threatening to bring down the government. So Netanyahu's in a bit of a fix. Israel's figleaf is a claim that Hamas are angling for add-ons, namely the release of Hamas leaders in custody. The US government, perhaps more in hope than expectation, says the ceasefire is going ahead anyway, but meanwhile, as noted, the Israelis have carried out air strikes killing dozens.

right, I dont think there was any doubt that Israel would continue the mass murder until the deadline. that seems to be their standard operating procedure before a ceasefire takes place.
from Israeli media it sounds like the domestic stuff with the far-right got ironed out and Ben-Gvir is going to resign and the Israeli cabinet will vote tomorrow.
I expect a bunch more stupid stuff will happen in the next few days.

I don’t think hope is the right word. I think the Trump administration is very clear they expect Israel to accept the deal or there will be repercussions.
But Israel hasn’t accepted any deal yet, which also means they haven’t backed out of any deal yet. And framing it this way is not correct.
This three stage plan sounds extremely fragile. I don't get why this is big news. Is Israel really gonna allow these monsters to regroup? I hope the plan is to get the hostages back and then go back in harder than ever.
I doubt it, and I wouldn't have thought there was that much feasible damage left to do, within the present laws of war, if you've seen what Gaza looks like lately and noted the food insecurity and lack of functioning hospitals and so on.

Hamas seems pretty pleased with the results, and have promised more of the same on their timeline, including apparently wreaking vengeance on the US and Britain as collaborators.
And the Palestinian people cheering in the streets of Gaza seem pretty exuberant about the war and chant they are coming for Jerusalem next.
the Palestinians in the street are exuberant that the war and genocide will stop, Dun.
Well, it seems the majority opinion is that only when Israel is destroyed will this Happen. So any detente is seen as temporary until the main objective is achieved.
The point is there doesn’t seem to be any real interest in peace with Israel.
Just a detente until hostilities can be resumed under more favorable conditions.
I am in favor of peace FWIW. But given the attitudes of the Palestinian leadership and people I am not super optimistic of things working out.
Framing the last year as a victory and premising more to come seems like a bad formula for peace.
As I have said before, putting varying amounts of unilateral pressure on Israel and giving the other side a free pass hasn’t worked out very well the last 80 years, and I don’t see how the next 80 goes better following the same playbook.
Well, on it's own probably not a lot. But combine it with a few other things like the Sachs repost and the fact that Bibi wasn't invited to the inauguration makes those of us with a suspicious nature a little bit curious. Put it that way.
The Gaza situation has ushered in a Candace Owens/Ben Shapiro schism for millennial Conservatism. It will be very interesting to see how much Trump panders to the Owens wing. A huge part of the MAGA movement is anti-deep state, so it's kind of hard to appeal to that while pumping weapons into Israel.

Trump so far hasn't really shown much of an inclination to pander to the batshit crazy Owen's wing of the party. If anything, embarrassment of associating with people like Brian James and Playbig will push everyone else the other way.
It is one thing to believe in free markets and 2 genders. But another when you are going full anti-vax, the world is 6,000 years old, there is no climate change happening, and abortion should be illegal in all cases.

It's a decent % of the coalition and Trump definitely throws them a bone every now and then. At the very least, they are a check on him going to Newsmax levels of pro-Israeli zealotry.

Lol dunyain
You seem triggered bro. Pissed off that Israel couldn't finish the extermination project are we?
jfc, from the first comment in one of those tweets. Briefly looking into it and it seems like it's a real thing.
God religion sucks

The election in the usa being over has ended israel's recent key advantage with the usa. How it will play to from here is unclear but the inevitable danger from the 'once and for all' total nonsense while hemorrhaging international support continues.

Hmmm....
Looks like the Candace Owens wing might be winning that little battle.
How do you even know that is a wedding? And how do you know that is what they are celebrating? Antisemitic accounts tend to dishonesty portray Israelis/Jews and intentionally do fake translations of Hebrew, so I am curious why you are sure this is an exception and they are portraying things accurately?
And how does that tie into the post you quoted the the Israeli right wing is upset they feel Israel is making an unfavorable deal?
I mean, if your general premise is the fringe Israeli right behaves poorly, the majority of Israeli's would probably agree with you. But that is a good thing the majority admonishes the poor behavior of the minority.
And when entire societies act poorly, and there is zero pushback from pretty much anywhere, that is how things never get better no matter how much resources are dumped into that society.
Ok. I did a deep dive into this. It happened in 2015, so I am not sure how it ties into this thread.
Anyways, Netanyahu (and pretty much everyone else in Israeli society) condemned the behavior, ordered an investigation, and at least one IDF soldier served jail time for participating. Seems like this is an example for how a healthy society should handle bad behavior by religious extremists, and something the rest of the region could learn form.
Could you imagine how much better the world would be if Arab and Western leaders (and societies at large) were willing to criticize Hamas when they declare this a victory, promise to take Jerusalem, and promise vengeance on Israel and the US.

Doesn't really tie into the thread, was just shocked after seeing it. Something I'd normally think the allah akbar crowd would be doing. I too thought come on, this has got to be some bs but as you saw.
I guess it could tie into the thread as Ben Gvir was in attendance. Not saying he's into stabbing a picture of a dead infant but the company you keep and all that.

From a sociological perspective, it is interesting how being in the Middle East seems to be turning Jewish extremists into more like Muslim extremists. Whereas in the Western world, they come across as mostly just strange and harmless. Probably something there about environment influencing behavior.

Meh, just religious zealots around like minded people. Dime a dozen in history.
A large portion of Israelis are secular, including Netanyahu afaik. I think chalking it up to religion is pretty lazy.
As for Trump. Trump will end up doing whatever is best for Trump, if you can figure out what that is. He doesn’t care at all about what his supporters want.
Candace Owens is a joke has been on the wrong side of every single political issue. The people who listen to her are not serious people.

It's not Gaza, it's a schism that exists even if Gaza wasn't on the map.
We saw it playing out very recently , with Musk (and Trump) and Vivek and many others being in favor of taking in as many foreign engineers as possible, and the MAGA nativist types going crazy over the idea that an american with CS degree would have to compete with them
