NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

Just 8 days until Florida State plays Georgia Tech!

A lot happened while you were away:

Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC

The Pac-12 went out in a blaze of glory:
Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA are headed to the B1G
Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado are headed to the B12
Cal and Stanford along with SMU are somehow headed to the ACC
Poor old Wazzu and Oregon State are now aligned with the MWC in some sort of in-flux relationship

The conferences are huge now, and the schedules are wildly imbalanced. Florida might have the hardest schedule in the history of the sport, while Missouri's playing a sun-belt slate.

FSU and Clemson play each other, but then play ZERO common ACC opponents

Utah/Baylor and Arizona/Kansas State play non-conference games against conference opponents

LSU and USC play in Vegas!

Boise goes to Oregon, a team they've never lost to!

Texas at Michigan!

Alabama at Wisconsin!

Notre Dame at ATM!

Clemson vs Georgia!

And there are some incredibly juicy new conference matchups:

Texas @ ATM is back!

Texas vs Georgia

Oregon vs Ohio State

USC @ Michigan

USC vs Penn State

And then the bizarre:

UCLA @ Rutgers is now a conference game

Syracuse plays home and away against Cal and Stanford for some reason

Half the teams have new coaches, transferred quarterbacks, or both!

Let's get it on!

lol this is dumb

Meh I still don't believe

Good clock management here.

Sigh

finally some balls

GG

Taking that dumb FG (and missing) just didn't allow them to put enough turtle pressure on. Because it was a guaranteed turtling for the ages if you can get it to one score there.

Incredible season. Funny enough not even the top 5 most devastating ND losses for me.

There's a boomer on a barstool somewhere in America telling someone else if they had the #1 pick they'd use it on that Will Howard guy.

BC loss in 93 #1 in my eyes

It would've gotten it to 13.

That boomer's name? David Tepper.

So we managed to look dumber than Ryan Day. I did not think this day could end with me back to severely doubting the ND coaching staff

Huh? I'm saying attempting the FG didn't allow them to put the pressure on. Idiotic decision and missing was icing on the cake.

whew

That, the phantom clip negating Rocket’s winning Orange Bowl TD, and Bush Push are my Top 3.

Freeman has the program on the upswing. We get some elite skill talent to go with our great OL and we can make it back here.

Fire Ryan Day

All these Ohio State players are legends forever. It hurts to say that.

Lord & Savior J.C. still undefeated at football in 2025.

by NotReddBoiler k

Anyone else remember Tom Zbikiwski and Jeff Samardzija?

In what sport?

So we were just happy to be there didn't take the game seriously or play that well, and then Ohio State still tried to give it back to us. Oh well, a dumb national championship structure deserves a dumb ending.

LOL, in order for that to be a phantom, you basically had to have your eyes closed during the play. Guy was going for the tackle, so your guy hit him from behind, so the refs threw a flag. This is merely the normal course of things.

Nothing about that game felt epic or fun. At least the year as a whole was great

Fire Freeman, bring back Brian Kelly!

by ntanygd760 k

That fg and fake punt.......

by Booker Wolfbox k

He asked himself "what would James Franklin do?"

It seemed like a B Kelly gameplan. Not just the special teams foibles but we abandoned trying to run our best RB who had carried the team. The pass coverage was an obvious flop as well.

It was a side to side hit about 30 years before there was a blind side block rule (if it applies). ND was not contending for a national title that year, only to keep Colorado from sharing one.

Fire Ryan Day

The good thing to come out of today could be Day's 10 year extension.

What. We have the lead in head to head wins. We just won 3 big ten championships in a row. The6ly havent won a real big ten championship this decade. We have just beaten them 4 in a row. We are the all time leader in total wins. We literally have no peer. We are the Yankees of college football.

And now that Ohio State isn't the only team paying players in the Big Ten the edge they obtained in the 21st century through pure cheating is over. They are Michigan's little brother pure and simp

i didn't realize UM had the edge in head-to-head. just looked it up and y'all claim more titles too. tOSU must do good marketing bc my guess is the random sports fan thinks the Buckeyes have a richer football history than UM

UNC owns everything vs dook: total wins, head-to-head, F4s, natties

by GoldenBears k

why on earth are they kicking a fg

indeed

i thought ND had the coaching edge before the game. i was wrong

CIN HC Zac Taylor plans to interview ND DC Al Golden tmr

soon thereafter, pen will hit paper and Golden will drive south to his new home in the Queen City

The FG guided by a higher power was a sight to see. A sinister footed kicker to boot.

And the butterfly effect saw the NY Giants win 2 SBs as a result of this game.

I'm not a ND fan but I understand the sorrow.
