Box Office Draft 2025 Thread
Proposed rules:
- No January movies
-10 teams, 8 picks per team (no January and maybe still a reduced number of movies?)
-$325m cap on each pick (Maybe move this?)
-Standard snake draft of the ABABABAB variety (only 6 of us and there are 6 bangers, so no need for 6th to go first 2 rounds in a row)
-Most North American box office at the end of January 2026 wins
Note: If your movie gets (1) moved to 2026 or (2) does not get a theatrical release or (3) gets a simultaneous streaming/theatrical release (be wary of Netflix films!), you may pick a movie that went unpicked, but it must be at least two weeks from release.
For substitutions only: $250m cap if its a 1st round pick, $150m cap for a round 2 pick, $100m cap for round 3 & 4, $75m for round 5 & 6, $70m cap for round 7 & 8, and $50m cap for round 9 & 10.
Randed order:
Chuck
Nich
Zeus
D1
Aaron
Derwi
I didn't see the sign up for this happening (guess it was last year's thread). Any chance you'll let me slot in at 7th pick?
In
There are several different ways I could go here. But going with a sequel to a popular movie released last year that has grossed 465 mil and still going seems the safest.
Wicked: For Good
Jurassic World: Rebirth seems like a lock to hit the 325M cap
superman should have the draw it used to still
Avatar 3
Avatar 3 was 100% my pick with no cap. Assuming Avatar 3 releases this year it will absolutely cap and will beat Wicked 2. I just think both absolutely cap, but a chance Avatar 3 gets delayed. I don't think it is much of a chance though. which is why I'm not crazy about getting the #1 slot.

Yeah, I mean I guess the only reason it lasted this long is the possibility of a delay, but considering it was filmed at the same time as 2, that seems unlikely.
I totally understand going with Wicked 2 in your spot though...I was hesitant myself.
I made a new tab in the spreadsheet for this year https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...
I have it set up for 10 rounds/70 picks for now, if somebody thinks we should be drafting a different amount of movies please speak up.
Yeah without cap I take avatar 3 also
I was originally thinking that I could see the dropoff for this one being bigger than it was from 2 to 3 if the reception is poor again which would push it under the cap. Now I see though that we get a new cast, new director and new writer so I'm thinking the chances of that happening are very slim.
I would have totally just picked Avatar 3 at #1 though.

I put in OP that we'd do standard ABAB snake draft instead of ABBAB since only 6-7 teams and there are at least 7-8 cappers, so didn't think last should get to go first 2 rounds in a row like when we have 10+ teams or don't have cap so last gets worse movies than first few people
but if everyone wants ABBAB then we can do that; I just didn't think we needed it and could go standard
Oh I didn't realize that you changed it and just went with what we always did.
Zootopia 2
Damn I was hoping that would somehow drop one more, I think it would have been my #2 choice overall behind Avatar.
I'm torn between 2 choices, I guess I'll try my luck with Lilo & Stitch.
I'm unclear how many picks I have right now. Is it one, or two like a typical snake?
Anyway, I know I have one pick
Captain America: Brave New World
yeah you have two
if it's too confusing we can go back to the old way
I just thought with fewer teams it made more sense for the end to not get 7/8/14 when 7 and 8 should have good shot at capping while 13 for 1st pick won't so 7/8 > 1/13 so 14 shouldn't go to 7/8...but maybe I'm wrong there anyway or maybe it's just too much churn to change it up
For my next pick, I'll go with The Minecraft Movie
