I believe his responses to the issue were trolls, not the salute and I didn't vote for Elon, he was asked by the President to help them clean out the corruption in gov't.

Who are "these people"? I am not extending the benefit of the doubt to anyone. I've made it clear that I think it is entirely possible that Elon was deliberately trolling. Maybe I think the trolling explanation is slightly less likely than the awkwardness explanation, but only slightly so.

I also said that Elon deserves all the questions he is getting because he has proven himself capable of almost any sort of trolling behavior.

I also think that people like Playbig who are defending Musk on the ground that he didn't use the proper technique for a Nazi salute are embarrassing themselves.

I very much agree with this. If Elon was deliberately trolling, then he might as well be a real Nazi.

Who cares about the distinction between true heart Nazis and people who think it is funny to imitate them?

Maybe because his response to everything is normally "FU"? The thought that anyone needs to clarify what they meant by waving their arm around is mind boggling. People looking for reasons to be offended are the nut low.

You might want to check the worldwide response to him waving his arm around. It isn't just a few people that interpreted that way. No one was looking for a reason to be offended and the guy just happened to wave his arms around in a way that looks like a nazi salute. That's just effing absurd.

You might want to learn that one thing you should never do is accidentally look like you support nazis. And if it does happen, you apologize quickly and clarify that you don't agree with nazis.

If you don't bother with the latter, you deserve what you get. And he does.

He said it through his words when he was on stage.

He knows how people are interpreting it worldwide. He has seen that reddit is banning links to twitter en masse as a result from this. He could simply say "hey guys sorry that looked like a nod to nazism. certainly didn't mean it that way." But he doesn't.

He was in a totally different mindset in the above video, he was much more laid back but if anything it further solidifies my position that it was meant to be a thank you for voting for President Trump (and I'm not lying, how can someone lie about their interpretation about something? It has nothing to do with me "lying").

OK, but the simplest explanation is that the guy doing Nazi salutes and writing articles in support of a German Neo-Nazi party is just a Nazi. The theory that he's inadvertently doing Nazi salutes due to awkwardness (a thing awkward people are known to do?) seems far less plausible.

I think he's referring to the fact that you generally operate with a sense of neutrality and show even basic levels of independent thought.

This is the internet. Sides must be picked ahead of time and narratives woven based on moving the team ball forward, regardless of actual context.

A few months ago we were making fun of Elon for flailing wildly at inappropriate times and jumping up and down excitedly like a teenage girl at a concert. A million Elons in front of a million cameras, and one of those dudes is bound to perform a perfect rendition of Swan Lake out of the blue while at a news conference.

And yet there's only one Elon, which makes it much less likely to occur randomly by chance. And he still refuses to disavow the interpretation. Strange, no?

He's also reposted blatantly racist accounts such as Radio Genoa, a virulently anti migrant acc with suspected Russian links.
I'm genuinely bemused his salute is being downplayed as awkward behaviour.
