TGL thread

Let's talk all things TGL.

I'm not sure what those things will be but if there is a thread we'll find out.

I watched last week (muted) and enjoyed it more than I expected to. I think they'll need to constantly tweak things to keep people interested, but it has potential to be a consistently fun off-season weeknight diversion.

Tiger goes tonight.

Fire the manger, cut all the players, start over from scratch Jupiter

It sucks

Saw today that week 3 TGL, while down a fair amount from weeks 1 and 2, still drew nearly three times the number of viewers as Sunday's coverage of the PGA Tour.

I'm sure some of that is the NFL, but that's still a bad look for the tour.

Can't really catch it live but managed to watch the highlights. Sky Sports has done a really bad job with these. Didn't have a clue what was going on. What was more insightful and actually kind of fun to watch was the good good guys play a match. I suggest you watch if you haven't.

I feel like they need some sort of new scoring system where you have points scored on each hole.

The main problem with match play golf among professional golfers is that you're just going to get a lot of tied holes.

Some sort of modified scotch game where you only get the points if you tie or win the hole could be interesting. It's just tough to get much of a flow or back and forth going when you have a 15 hole match that ends 4 to zero

It's all about Tiger. If he wasn't involved, it wouldn't have nearly as many people.

And Amex is on in the worst time slot. I think it was 3-7 on Golf Channel. That's literally right in the football window buried. Also helps that TGL is on ESPN.

We should see how Torrey does tomorrow, but many people probably don't even know it is the final day.

Getting 1-1 for a tie is the same as 0-0 for a tie. But they def need to adjust how the hammer works, b/c now it's +EV to just hold it and use it late if needed pre-hole. Instead, give each team one "non-refusable" hammer that they can use on any teebox before anyone hits. Also, allow regular hammering from either team on any hole, would make it much more interesting to watch teams press edges and have to debate on declining/accepting the hammer, and grinding to avoid losing the 2 point holes.

It sucks

Only watched a few minutes of it, but I think I'm with you.

I’m clearly in the minority, but I quite enjoyed the Jupiter/Boston game.
There’s clearly teething problems, but it has potential.
There was a funny moment when the sim said a ball stopped on a heavy downslope when it should’ve rolled back towards the hole and when they tried to place the ball on the actual spot on the real green, the ball constantly rolled back resulting in a ridiculous drop on a totally different part of the green..
