That was a facemask. A visor doesn't absolve a player from putting his hand up there and moving the helmet. His finger tips also did grab the actual mask component and twist it. I don't see how this is even remotely controversial.

Like if the visor wasn't there his hand was going inside the helmet. We should penalize players for wearing visors and player safety overall?

Gene Steratore when looking at the reply said it should not have been called. It didn't rise to the level of facemasking. Player had his hand on the visor but there was no appreciable "grasp and control, twist, turn, push, or pull the facemask" It's a no call at best.

There were a couple bad calls on the Chiefs.

The DPI on the Hollins TD was terrible. Didn't matter because Hollins caught it, but that would have been huge.

The false start when Oliver was clearly offsides made it 3rd and 15 instead of 3rd and 5 and basically killed the drive.

DPi please, it didn't affect the outcome.

The false start. I didn't count it since I didn't see any good angle down the line. A defensive player can move, but he has to cross the line of scrimmage for it to be an offsides instead of a false start. It was close though, I'll give you that, but it's a stands for me without the down line angle.

It has never been truer than in the Bills Chiefs game... DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Is it any surprise that there's a Buffalo Bill monument in Kansas?

just glad chiefs fans like the refs and think the nfl is on the up and up now

old enough to remember them saying league is rigged after losing to Brady 2x in 3 years

oh stop with this one. it didn't even count.

Like you guys never whine about penalties that have no impact.

But the visor was there.

The whole point of the face masking rule is so a guy doesn't have his head grabbed and jerked all over the place.

You can't do that with a visor.

I have no recollection of that.

Here's a few that you know the internet would be going bananas about if the teams were reversed.

Yeah, and it's still a hand to the face which isn't allowed either.

But he clearly was facemasked regardless. Head was turned because of his hand.

+1

ridiculous to even bring it up

Terrible is also the wrong word to use. Chiefs defender grabs his jersey with his left hand. The NFL refs are way too flag happy on deep balls, and I prefer them to not call minimal contact like that PI, but it's definitely not terrible. The game seemed to be officiated pretty evenly.

Refs miss calls. News at 11.

If you're talking purely about how decisions impacted the result in an after-the-fact/results oriented way then sure it makes no sense to mention it. If you're even slightly trying to insinuate that there was biased reffing happening then it's one of the most relevant penalties to mention.

I don't have much of a preference between the teams in the super bowl (was rooting for both the teams who lost in the championship games) but the ref riggage narrative is by far my most hated thing in football to the extent that it makes me want to root for the Chiefs just because it will piss off everyone who talks about it.

I haven't complained about a single call from yesterday, impact or not. I try to keep an open mind during all games. Like when I go to Bills games and they show an in stadium replay about some call that went against the Bills, and the replay shows absolutely nothing conclusive but everyone boos anyway, I roll my eyes.

I know I complained during the Chiefs/Texans game, but those calls definitely had an impact.

Maybe I have complained in the past about calls that didn't have an impact. If so, my bad. But I know I'm not a serial offender.

You guys won. Congrats. I just think in this instance you are wrong.

By "you guys" I basically mean the whole internet.

I do legitimately feel bad for the Bills and their fans. I remember what it felt like to always get your heart ripped out in the playoffs. I hope Josh gets his soon.

still getting caught up on the end of game conversation, but this sequence is an example of the interactions that keep me hanging around

Liked this post and wanted to quote it.

This is exactly why you’re an awesome guy and great poster.

I kinda hate Philly in general and only like Saquon cuz he was a Giant — and well cuz he’s awesome and has won me $$$ and bonus bets.

So I will stand with you Sir Suzzness and root for the 3-peat Chiefs!!!

VALHALLA AWAITS!!!

So it was a first down right? that is a little different than PI/missed PI, contact here, facemask there

that is the type of thing the nfl needs to get right

yeah chiefs seemed better and i bet chiefs so i dont care but i get why people are complaining such an easy and obvious call isn't called correctly

that's just it. it wasn't an easy and obvious call

none of us here can state w 100% certainty that it was a first down

Im sorry but respectfully you have no idea what its like to be a bills fan and have your heart ripped out time and time again. I dont know what franchise you root for but I cant imagine the heartache is anywhere close.

I love all the chiefs fans doing mental gymnastics to prove there is no ref bias when these were the exact same fans calling the NFL out for being bias and giving calls to the Patriots....

So doyou think the NFL suddenly doesn't care who advances to the super bowl? They dont have a golden boy now that Brady retired? Give me a ****ing break, of course they do. The Chiefs are the modern day patriots. I understand as a an of the Chiefs you cant admit this and truth be told if I was a Chiefs fan id probably be the same way, so tits hard to blame you.

I think Bill Burr sums it up pretty well

So who should it go for? I thought if it's iffy they tend to side with the offence, but what the heck do I know. The first official call was that it was a first down, but then someone else stepped in and veto'd it as if it was clear-cut to them.

Just curious if there was ever an iffy, 50/50 call in which the Chiefs got screwed and it had consequences to their score/game?

I've been a Chiefs fan since the early 80s. We'd have killed just to make it to one Superbowl. But you guys knocked Joe Montana out and killed our best chance.

Yeah times are good now, but before that I lived through:

  • having 4 first-round byes and going 0-4
  • not winning a playoff game for 29 years
  • a phantom holding call on Dave Szott and Nick Lowery leaving a 50-yard field goal a foot short that cost Marty his first playoff game
  • the kicker who shall remain nameless missing three kicks < 45 yards
  • losing a playoff game with no punts
  • a 2-minute drill from Denver's 40 yard line that ran out of time
  • Kimble Anders dropping an easy TD for an INT in the aforementioned Bills game right before half
  • losing a 28-point lead to the Colts
  • James Harrison flopping and getting the call on a 2-pt conversion that would have tie it
  • Jeff Tripplette making the worst call in playoff history and Marcus Mariotta completing a pass to himself for a TD
  • Dee Ford offsides and a phantom roughing call on Chris Jones for a chance to go to the Superbowl

Again, I'm not complaining, times are obviously very good right now. I'm just pointing out that I do remember playoff heartache very well.

Lots of people are saying they won't even watch the Superbowl. Why would the NFL rig it for two teams no one wants to watch?
