Yeah, three coats of stain and 3 coats of polyurethane. It's a gloss poly. She's working on another table right now and we talked about that gloss finish. We don't think it will work with some of the other things we want to refurbish.

Took a walk today. Saw another house being raised, and another bulldozed. My suspicion is it's gonna start really ramping up soon once people start getting insurance money and permits.

Most of the owners in my immediate neighborhood seem to have decided not to do either, as we have. We got 18" of water and I suspect a lot of folks are thinking the way we are. Hope we don't get another 100yr storm and mitigate as best you can if we do.

The surrounding neighborhood appears to be headed for the bulldozer for the most part. 2 floods in two years, the last being 5', I think has made most think it's time to just move on.

Maybe the neighbors will bulldoze, and you can get a bigger lot at a sweet price.

the closet and furniture projects appear to be very well done and should be a source of pride
and the symbolism of that avocado tree couldn't be more apropros, although now you have to take it with you everywhere you move from here on out

It's funny you said that. My sister gave us a coconut palm about 6 years ago. We hauled it in a pot to our last house. It was quite heavy. We planted in the ground there. I just couldn't leave it when we moved here so we dug it up and replanted it here. It was the hardest thing we had to move.

It is doing quite well here and it sprouted its first coconut!

My wife just finished another table. It's really not a great piece of furniture but it's been in the family for a long time. When I got it it was really ugly. Almost just bare wood. Don't have a picture of that. For some reason my wife decided to paint it black. Even worse but I didn't say anything. She decided to strip it and stain it. It's still not a stellar piece of furniture but it looks much better.

I try to keep this kind of stuff out of my blog, but it's kinda heavy on my mind.

It's scary what's going on right now. I have to talk my wife off a ledge every day. Hell, I gotta talk myself off a ledge every day.

I feel like our way of life is quickly coming to an end. I'm just not that hopeful.

I've spent my whole life believing humans were inherently good, with bad tendencies tossed in. I now believe the opposite.

My next project arrived today.

Going to hopefully finish the kitchen and build a bar area.

I'm not sure cardboard is a good material for a bar.

Nah, it's fine. Just get it the way you like it and then spray a bunch of clear acrylic on it.

We finally got to do a little fishing. It's been over 6 months. Since before the hurricane.

The weather was phenomenal. It would have been a great day without catching a single fish. Fishing was slow but we managed to bring home a few. We had delicious grouper sandwiches for super bowl.

Felt good.

So, we the cabinets for the bar arrived. I have to move the electrical outlet up to accommodate the 4 inch granite backsplash. That isn't a problem, just cut a new hole. Plenty of wire there.

But I also want to add another outlet on the left side of the bar. There are a couple of studs in between and I'm not sure how I want to deal with it. We suck bad at sheetrock so I would like to do this without cutting any more.

One option is go up through the attic, then come back down. I can do this but, yuk. I hate crawling around in the attic.

Another option is to pull the baseboard and cut sheetrock at the bottom, then run the wire along the bottom plate. I don't even know if this is OK to do. I don't think I've ever seen it done. Mark?

I'm going to think about it for a while. The more I toss this around, the more inclined I am to just bite the bullet and crawl up in the attic. It would be cleaner I think.

Yeah, the best, normal way is to run it through the attic.

We've been looking for an antique table or something we can use as a TV stand.

I found this on nextdoor. He was selling it for his parents who got flooded. He said they had about 3 ft of water in the house. There were antiques everywhere. We alo bought a hallway stand that is perfect next to our front door.

Anyway, he was selling the top piece of a sort of book shelf for $45. It was sort of going to work so i figured I'd look at it. The piece is really several pieces that stack. He had the others in another room and he said i could have them for free. They were under water and a mess.

Anyway the ad showed a plate that identified the piece and manufacturer. Its over 100 years old and yowza! They sell for over $1000 in good shape.

Anyway another fun project.
