Old timer giving another shot at the poker! micro start(nl2 and up) mtt(micro and up)

Hello everyone,

So basically after a long break i somehow started to play poker again, never would guess that this day will come. Two weeks ago i was cleaning my pc and found 8$ on pokerstars, thought "let's play few hands and lose everything so that i can uninstall this garbage" but nope somehow was running super well and decided to continue playing. A week later i added GGpoker and spanish pokerstars and in like a week or two i will also add Winamax and damn, i'm having so much fun playing it.

Already played 30k hands in total so far and doing quite well. At the moment i am playing nl2 cash only, fast tables. Later i will start adding normal tables and also will spend some weekends just playing MTTs.

Plans:
My plan is to get 100 buy-ins for nl2 and then when i will have 10 bi(50$) for nl5 i will take a shot and see how it will go. My game is quite aggressive but i am still learning so every week it feels my game changes a lot. Still struggling with 3bet pots, cbet pots and over bets. But been trying to go through hand history almost everyday and also having a coach to help me out should be enough for now. I will play on 4 softs at the moment(Pokerstars.eu, Pokerstars.es, GGpoker and Winamax) and will see which softs i will like the most and then might cut down or even add more softs, who knows... I don't have a specific plans or goals for poker because i have more important things in life to concentrate on but i still want to play this game as a hobby and see where it will lead me. Basically one hand at the time and see if i still can keep this poker spark within me.

Past poker experience:
I played a lot of poker before 2009, the so called golden age of poker and was doing quite well. Was playing 9max tables from nl2-25 and was grinding like crazy 12-16h everyday on 30+ tables, was a true degen back then. After 2009 i played PLO, SNG, MTT, Hyper HU, Spin&go and some more. I had dozens of coaches teaching me strategies and whatnot for basically everything, had some insane runs and had some insane downs, made challenge playing 1 million hands in 1 month, which was not smart haha and etc. So i learned a little bit from everything and everyone. But still eventually you will get burned out by just playing poker day in and day out so it also happened to me. Got burned out and just stopped playing poker for almost 10 years or so. And i was 100% sure that i will not come back to poker but somehow, maybe, i still had some love left for poker and maybe this time i will treat this hobby with more respect and will just concentrate on learning the game and enjoying the ride. We will see...

Present:
Right now i finished studying coding(Full Stack) so i have bunch of projects i need to do for my portfolio. Also been studying drawing and video editing, have some passion for it too. Also this year or next year i will have to go to Japan for JLPT, going for N3 so i'm spending a lot of time studying the language. And also decided to learn Spanish, dunno why but whatever, will see how it will go haha. And yeah last thing is poker for now. So welcome to my Blog and enjoy!

Good post. Will be following and best of luck with it. Hopefully an enjoyable addition to your life.

Thanks! hope the same but poker is poker, in the long run it will bring more tilt than enjoyment but we will see haha.

Ok just finished 10k on GGpoker and damn that soft make your soul puke at least few times per day. Still beating those fast tables with 9bb+ but damn it feels weird playing there. Especially sometimes it feels like you are playing against very questionable players or even bots themselves, especially this hand, damn it is hard to not have conspiracy theories about the GGpoker itself running their own bots to just boost their playerbase numbers. Of course i am joking but still some really weird plays:

GGPoker, Hold'em No Limit - $0.01/$0.02 - 6 players
Replay this hand on Pokeit

UTG: $3.08 (154 bb)
MP: $2.00 (100 bb)
CO: $4.87 (244 bb)
BU: $8.18 (409 bb)
SB: $1.35 (68 bb)
BB (Hero): $5.75 (288 bb)

Pre-Flop: ($0.03) Hero is BB with T 8
UTG raises to $0.04, 4 players fold, Hero calls $0.02

Flop: ($0.09) K 5 9 (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets $0.03, Hero calls $0.03

Turn: ($0.15) J (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets $0.05, Hero calls $0.05

River: ($0.25) 7 (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG checks

Total pot: $0.25 (Rake: $0.01)

Showdown:
UTG shows K K (three of a kind, Kings)
(Equity - Pre-Flop: 79%, Flop: 93%, Turn: 70%, River: 0%)

BB (Hero) shows T 8 (a straight, Seven to Jack)
(Equity - Pre-Flop: 21%, Flop: 7%, Turn: 30%, River: 100%)

BB (Hero) wins $0.24

Anyways still have 1.1k hands left to play on pokerstars so will try to do it today and then i will take it super slow and just play few hours in late evenings. Have poker coaching on Monday so have plenty of hands to go through. Also been struggling with 3bet pots, bet sizing and cbet. But overall i really like my game so will fix the remaining big leaks and the my gameplay should be good enough to beat nl2. I have deadline for two projects until next Sunday, so when i am done with them i will take 1-2 weeks off from coding and video editing and will just grind poker and hopefully will be able to move to nl5 by end of it.

Ok it seems there's some kind of maintenance on Pokerstars.es so there are no games or tables available for today. So just deposited 120$ to Pokerstars.eu and of course this was the first hand i played:

PokerStars Zoom, Hold'em No Limit - $0.01/$0.02 - 6 players

UTG: $2.03 (102 bb)
MP: $1.27 (64 bb)
CO: $0.64 (32 bb)
BU: $3.98 (199 bb)
SB (Hero): $2.34 (117 bb)
BB: $2.63 (132 bb)

Pre-Flop: ($0.03) Hero is SB with K A
1 fold, MP raises to $0.06, 1 fold, BTN 3-bets to $0.18, Hero 4-bets to $0.50, 2 players fold, BTN calls $0.32

Flop: ($1.08) K 6 J (2 players)
Hero bets $0.40, BTN calls $0.40

Turn: ($1.88) 4 (2 players)
Hero bets $1.42, BTN raises to $2.84, Hero calls $0.02 (all-in)

River: ($4.76) 7 (2 players, 1 all-in)

Total pot: $4.76 (Rake: $0.17)

Showdown:
BU shows J J (three of a kind, Jacks)
(Equity - Pre-Flop: 57%, Flop: 97%, Turn: 100%, River: 100%)

SB (Hero) shows K A (a pair of Kings)
(Equity - Pre-Flop: 43%, Flop: 3%, Turn: 0%, River: 0%)

BU wins $4.59

well another hand to talk about with the coach heh. Anyway if i can't play at spanish pokerstars then i might even take a day off or just play a little bit later tonight. It is really hard to play poker right now because i no have idea of how to play 3bet pots and the sizing of bets so don't see any point grinding poker or even playing for 1-2 hours if i haven't learned how to play these hands efficiently. Even with overbets on the river, there are so many spots when it is obvious that you can make opponent fold his 2nd or 3rd pair with over betting on the river and it is kinda crazy how much value you lose by not doing it, so yeah next week gonna learn a lot, so looking forward to it.

Starting Bankroll:
Pokerstars.eu - 120$
Pokerstars.es - 152$
GGpoker - 104$

Anyway, in total i have played 30k hands and at the moment my bb/100 is something like this:

PS.es - 9bb+/100
GGpoker - 8bb+/100
PS.eu - ~15bb/100 (3k hands only played)

It looks good from net worth and bb/100 but overall i still don't feel comfortable playing the game. Still have so much to learn. Can't wait for monday. Also i will post graphs and stats and everything after another 20k hands, so that i can show how bad it looked at the beginning and how the game and everything has improved. As with coaching the game has been improving by quite a lot, that also means that game changes too, not by much but yeah it feels better. Also winamax account should be done by the end of next week and i heard that the games there are super soft and they have NL 5max regular tables and also zoom like tables, so can't wait to play some hands there too. That is it for now, just going to play a little bit until monday and after i am done with coaching and having better knowledge of how to play certain spots i will play much more but i will start grinding heavily after i am done with my projects, so hopefully by the end of next week.

Some hands today:

Damn really don't know what to do on turn vs short stack, there are so many hands that beats me but really don't want to give up. I think i just had to check the turn and see how much he bets, if he would shove then it would be easier to fold, otherwise tough hand.

One of my biggest leaks at the moment is to not fold when it is obvious that you are beaten. Especially on the river, ahhhh really need to learn how to fold good hands :f_biggrin:

Hate 4bet pots because have no idea what to do in them haha. On turn i tried to protect my TT by betting 25% but dunno if you need to do that in 4bet pots.

Ok adjusted my cbet and 3bet a little bit and the games feels even better. Especially when it comes to 3bet pots but still running quite meh. But yeah stopped calling postflop and started to raise small bets and being more aggressive when i have good hand and for now my red line has improved by a lot. So yeah tomorrow going to talk with the coach and can't wait to make it even better. I might also drop both Pokerstars and just move completely to Winamax and GGpoker, would have enough BR for nl5. I might just play nl2 for another week or two and then i might just play nl5 until i win 10BI for NL10, so yeah looking forward to it.

Ok just had coaching session and we talked through a lot of stuff. Basically i didn't know how to pot control and was playing OOP like i was IP, also was opening too loose from early positions and also was calling 3bets in spots where i shouldn't. Also bet sizing for cbets was quite off and also my 3bet OOP was too small. But the main part was pot control IP and OOP. Also we went through like 15 hands and a lot of stuff made more sense, so really happy about it. Also calling bets in 3bet pots with second pair is a big NONO haha. So yeah really happy with the coaching, also did some poker hand analytics and it was quite surprising by how much the opponent can have pair, top pair or even flush draw possibilities and so on. So yeah learn a lot. Going to play some poker today and tomorrow but i really need to work on my projects so i only will play late evenings for now. That is all for now.

Yesterday played for 2h and damn the tables were crazy. After winning 2BI suddenly everyone started to 4bet,5bet and pot betting every street and 4betting/calling shove with A9o, in my almost 50k hands played have never seen people going ape **** like yesterday haha. Still surprised that i still managed to win at the end but yeah had so many annoying and tough spots but still was happy how i played. Here are some hands that i might play better or maybe not hard to tell:

I don't think i could play this hand in a different way. The only thing that beats me is flush. And for him to get flush on right here is like what 6% or something, so was just unlucky here but still interesting spot.

BU wins €4.07

BB was super aggresive so tried to be cute and just call him and try to out play him postflop but failed haha. Turn was easy check and just wait for river bet and see if i could bluff him out or not. But on the other hand i should start adding 4bet to my range too, especially against people with 15%+ 3bet...

I think calling minraise on flop is not such a big mistake but still this hand is weird, of course on turn it is obvious we are beaten but still, maybe i could just go all in on flop. feels like he had QTs but yeah maybe this was a safe play and just didn't lose more than i should...

My favorite 3bet pots with AK haha. The turn call was bad by me because if i call then i am pot committed and i kinda need to go all in on turn. So yeah the turn was basically all in or fold so just wasted some bb by calling it.

Ok just played with poker variance calculator and completely forgot how bad or good the swings can get. So if my winrate is 5bb/100 on average in 100k hands i can go -60bi or +140bi which is insane. And 1 million hands played with average 5bb/100 in the worst case scenario +170bi or best +775bi which is also crazy haha.

So basically i might just make a goal for this year to play 1 million hands in cash and just move higher on stakes when i have 100bi for certain limit because i also want to play mtt's and other stuff when i get bored with cash but yeah. so if i continue playing, learning, do bunch of coaching and other stuff i might get average winrate 5bb/100(of course have no idea if it is gonna be 5bb or more or less) so taking nl2,nl5,nl10,nl25 together, the average BI is 10.50$ so with million hands played i should earn ~2000$ with million hands. Of course have no idea what will happen, just throwing this out for fun. So yeah would be kinda fun to make a small challenge to play 1 million hands this year in cash.

Also was thinking trying out other formats too, like mtt's, sng(if they are alive), spins and maybe even plo but that is only after i am done with cash. Of course money is important to me but i just want to treat poker like a game and hobby and just learn as much as i can and see where it will lead me. In the past it was always about how much i earned that day and how big or small is my hourly rate and bb/100 and other stuff... It just made me hate this **** and eventually got burned out so yeah this time i just wanna chill and enjoy the ride. Also close person to me is a pro MTT player, his average BI is like 50-100$ and he is eager to teach me tournaments too, so when i am done with cash i can accept his offer. So yeah basically just wanted to make simple goals for this year and just enjoy the ride.

GOALS FOR NOW:

* Play 1 million hands in cash
* Starting from NL2 going to use super safe 100bi BRM and will move up when i will win 10bi from the next limit(so need have 250$ BR to take a shot at nl5)
* The main point is to learn and play the game and see how swingy it can get.
*Also to put everything in perspective - In the worst case scenario i might barely touch NL10 by the end of this challenge
- or -
In the best scenario i should be in between NL25/NL50

When it is done i might go and learn some MTT's(also cash will be played on the side!)

So yeah let's have some fun this year!

Wahh what a session yesterday, in like first 1h i was down 5bi, got destroyed by everything, all my KK and AA got shat on etc. and after losing KKvs99 i just wanted to go to sleep haha. But after like few minutes started to win back a little bit but somehow after another hour managed to be almost break even. Even if i spewed one buy in with AA, overall the session was really good. Managed to grind nonstop for 2h is kinda a new record for now. But yeah really enjoyed last session.
Especially when you see that your ev for this session should have been almost 10 haha.

Yeap Turn was easy fold, at first i was brainstorming what the hell could he have here, because his stats were 100/100 lol. But yeah when he called i remembered that they love to call 3bets with Ax so yeah another painful lesson for the future.

Ok i don't know why but i get tilted whenever i play GGpoker. I dont even need to open a table and still get instantly tilted, dunno why haha. Anyway at first i thought that i am running super bad at GG but it turns out i am also making bunch of mistakes but there's is nothing much i can do because the spots are super hard and annoying. Of course i am also running bad but the ironic thing is that after going through my hand history i found out that i can even beat it with 4-5bb/100 when running like dog ****. Basically even if my hands looks and feels strong need to respect opponent bets and re-raise too. If i could just put them on certain ranges and the bet sizings they are doing the fold makes more sense. So yeah GG is even better teacher than i thought. So instead of getting tilted i just need to appreciate for teaching me so early how to play hard spots...

This is tough spot vs short stack, made a mistake on flop had to check raise him much more but yeah dunno if i should fold here vs short stack.

Bad call on the river, on a 3way pot it is 1000% somehow has something, especially on the river. Especially when the pot looks so scary so yeah, bad call.

I am also close to the first 50k hands played, so soon going to post all the graphs, winrates and whatnot on all the current softs that i play at.

Ok just went through my whole hand history and basically at the moment i am beating nl2 with 5bb/100 and have another 5bb/100 in mistakes. And by mistakes i mean plays that are easy to fix, like stop calling check raises with one pair and giving up when you know you are beaten. Of course i have bunch of other mistakes in smaller pots and plays itself but at the moment if i fix leaks that i can see myself then basically i am really happy with my results so far. Coach also said that other leaks will take a long time to get fixed/changed because there are so many different nuances and specifics but at the moment my biggest mistakes are basically in front my face literally. So yeah really happy with my game at the moment.

Ok done playing my first 50k hands and damn it was tough. Hard to tell if i run good or not but my ev line shows that i am even. Kinda weird because i remember when i first came back to poker few weeks ago, i had zero spots to worry about or break my neck for. Everyone was donating money and in one session i was +15bi. But after that i had none of those sessions in these 50k hands that i have recorded, like zero. Basically in most of the spots i had to brainstorm and guess if my flush or trips or two pair are better or not against opponent. Of course being back after suck long break this is a given, learned so damn much in these first 50k hands that i don't even know where to start because my game basically changes every day in a good way of course. But still it was super tough. When the next upswing will come i will have too much PTSD going all in with a strong hands haha. Anyway here it goes:

GGpoker - 18958 hands, 3,54bb/100, Profit:13,69$

Pokerstars.es - 24663 hands 4,08bb/100, Profit:21,23$

Pokerstars.eu - 7232 hands 9,21bb/100, Profit:13,32$

TOTAL HANDS - 50853/1000000
TOTAL PROFIT: 48,24$ +14$(Unrecorded) = 62,24$
TOTAL bb/100: ~6bb/100

To be honest i didn't even expect to be break even at nl 6max. In the past always was struggling with this format and never were able to be above zero. Dunno what happened but i am starting to feel comfortable playing 6max and slowly starting to understand the game, also coach helps me out a lot. So yeah also need to remember that my stupid mistakes cost another 4-5bb/100 and also been running quite meh so yeah, let's see what next 50k hands will bring.

Ok have played almost 15k hands so far and slowly building my BR on all the sites. Got some nice bonuses and RB on GG and also got lucky with PS satelites and won 109$ tournament ticket from 0.50$. Next week i will be busy with projects and stuff so will play much less but still hope to play another 15-20k hands at least and see how it will go. Also didn't had coaching last thursday because i was busy with family but yeah, really happy with my game, been folding strong hands when i know i am beaten and just playing quite good. So yeah happy about that. And yeah that is it for now. Oh and by the end of next week my Winamax account should be done, so going to deposit some money there and see how the soft is.

Current Bankroll:
Pokerstars.eu - 143$
Pokerstars.es - 182$
GGpoker - 151$
Winamax - 0$

I'm in, best of luck OP.

Thanks will do my best! 😀

Ok i had two different database analysis, one was for my hands and other was how opponents were playing. Especially bet sizing they bet and was really surprised how easy it is to exploit them right now. Can easily c/r with air and 2/3 of times they will fold. Will help a lot for the red line. Cbet is a little bit complicated but i started to add some overbets and just experimenting and eventually i will find what works and what doesn't.
When it comes to my game, i was really surprised how **** it was haha. I thought by now i playing okish but except preflop(found some leaks and right now i am fixing them). Postflop is really bad, so i am going to work with my coaches to fix it. At the moment it is hard to play on more than 1 table so it will take few weeks, maybe more than a month to get use to the new play style because i need to change a lot of stuff in my postflop.
C/R more, barreling more, my river is non existent, OOP is awful, IP was okish but still a lot of improvements to had. So yeah it will be hard and annoying at the beginning and even today after playing 2h on 1 table i was dead tired haha. So yeah this will be a slow process but eventually everything will become a muscle memory. So yeah played almost 70k hands so far, the next 30k hands will be super slow but when i will get use to everything i'll get back to grinding hard. So yeah have 3 lessons this week and 4 next week, gonna be fun learning new stuff, so looking forward to it. That is all for now.
