Pro Poker Talks: A Grinder's Coffee Break

First coffee break...

I am an online poker player. Been playing full-time for approximately the last 3 years. (6max cash)
I avoid using the word professional as I feel that the word is being used incorrectly.
I see professionalism as a pursuit, in anything really; you can always be more professional and do things better...

I will be posting anything I feel like posting and everything will be honest.

I am thinking of posting results monthly but I may decide to do it weekly or daily. I have no idea yet.

I will start with January's results.
All results will exclude HU as it has insane amount of variace and I want to keep it seperately. I may post HU results all together at the end of the year.

January obv. was a good month in terms of volume and results however I did way too little study and I had issues with my schedule and social life. That created emotional distress that i need to address asap.

Dont have a solid plan for February yet but I will set up one real quick and post it here I guess.
Overal study plan will be same as January cause I didnt do what I should have done, that is 3BP IP as PFR.
I want also to work on things that I did bad in January and that is table select better as well as respect my hourly rate on the tables and dont waste my time due to too much ego.

On top of that I wanna read more and I have a couple of books in mind... Firstly to finish for second time ''Blink'' by Malcom Gladwell and start ''Emotional Intelligence'' by Daniel Goleman.

I also have some ideas for side business that I wanna develop but it is also not clear yet in my head... I guess as everything else...

Coffee break over!

It's not the word which is used incorrectly, it's you who interpret it in your own way

Thank you for your question!

I play midstakes. And no the graph does not include RB.

Subbed, gl!

Did you set up a single owner LLC (Assuming you in USA) to book earnings and track expenses to? Did you try getting a mortgage yet? If so, was it difficult considering the source of income?

I appreciate the focus of this thread is on the 6max, but I am keen to hear about HU games. Do you get much volume in? and are you playing HU tables or just fighting empty 6max tables?

I've been playing 10nl zoom HU on party but looks like I've paid 15bb/100 in rake over 11k hands... and I'm losing small in the sample anyway. That said I find it super addictive and would like to put some time into the format.

Hi there.
No I do not play HU zoom. I dont see the point. The guys who enter HU zoom at MS are usually specializing in HU and I would not be as good as them.
So all of my volume is at the 6max tables however, I never leave the tables until the other player quits so I end up putting a lot of volume.

Basically the purpose is to make it unprofitable for anyone else to open sit.

If you do not want to only be a HU player I would suggest to never play HU zoom and if you ever wanna play HU tables dont do it bellow nl500 as the rake is massive!!!

Variance also is extremley high at HU so you will need to have a very stong mental game and good BR to be able to perform well.

I hope this answer is helpful.

I am not in USA. So I would have no idea about any of these things. 😀

Time for coffee break...

February volume decreased significantly. Games were just dead.
So I took the opportunity to look at some app games; mostly 8max+ante.
It is like Im learning a completely new game. It is pretty confusing I won't lie. Most of the time I have no idea what I am doing so, Im just trying to make sure I dont blunder.

Also it is pretty tough to spot fish quickly cause with this structure especially deep.... way more things get reasonable so, I need to have SDs in order to get meaningful information.

So basically now I will have to spend time to work on preflop tactics and overall strategy.
There are many different stack sizes as well on every table and that complicate things even more.
But I guess it is equally complicated for everyone. I just need to invest the appropriate time and will work things out.

As for this month's results (excluding HU), I started a bit harshly but kept my focus and became a bit more selective with tables, and things worked out at the end.

I will finally be taking a week of vacation!
Grinded a lot for too long and I cant wait to calm down for a while. Super excited!

Feel up the batteries and come back to crush the app games. Hopefully 😅

Another coffee brake 🙃

Low volume on March as I had a week of vacation. I also got some volume trying FR ante games on an app.
Had some run good in All-in EV for a change. Another 7 months like this and Ill have me EV back 😂

Not sure Ill keep these updates as Im actually not motivated to do so. I just dont see the point atm. Anyway, Ill see how I feel.

Excluding HU as always.

Other than that, read during vacation ''The Psychology of Money''. It was ok but personaly found it very basic. It is a good light read...maybe not while on vacation though... was trying to stop thinking about money...

For April Ill try to finish ''Thinking Fast and Slow''. Although, it is quit big and heavy. Done 100 pages and it is a must read already!
