Sandman on Netflix

Thought I make a thread about this new comics adoption, as the source material is probably my most favorite comic book series ever.

Just watched all episodes, and I think they did an amazing job! They stay pretty close to the source material, and the changes they made make really sense imo. Also I can't think of a better casting for the main character. And they captured the look of the source artwork very well in the look of the series.

If they go on like this Sandman might be considered the best comic adoption ever (Can't judge on Walking Dead which I didn't read, but it's certainly a better adoption than Punisher, The Boys, or the Preacher; and I'm not saying these are bad).

If they pick the story up how I think they will, next season should be spectacular!

It's great news all around!

Huge victory for Neil Gaiman. American Gods s2/3 may have been a failure but now he's got

Coraline

AG S1

Good Omens+another season

2 seasons of Sandman

Dude is killing it and I've seen more of his interviews from the previous discussion I was in and my mind remains unchained; Neil is a great guy and deserves all the success.

Well..

Looks like Season 2 is it. They've shown pics of end game scenes being filmed. 100% over now with the discovery that Neil is a giant POS.

Enjoy it if you can!

P diddy agrees.

Yeah show is officially cancelled and more Neil dirt comes out every day.

He really said to a girl "call me master."

Bleh now I can't even enjoy s1.

Eugh I really loved the Sandman radio adaption. Can't think of anything that's had a more stacked cast. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sandma...)

Also, well done Chilltown for having the most aged like milk comment I can recall, and owning it!

Was it a black chick?
Who cares

Yeah I mean, "call me master" is about 999th on the list of bad/creepy **** Neil is being accused of.

I've never been one to put much stock in the man. I love reading Orson Scott Card books but it never occurred to me to look into his life. I own all the Sandman comics but I've never thought much about Neil the man. Sucks he sucks but its not going to ruin anything for me

You gotta admit the whole Caliope storyline is kinda disturbing given this background.

what happened with Neil, what came out???

love his books, i mean "Anansi's Boys" is masterful, and the sandman series i enjoyed too. sucks to here that there is other stuff going on ... is that all true/confirmed, or rumors?

Yeh just on the phone to my brother, who's a big fan. Obviously you can separate art-artist, but with what's come out, the 'art' is so icky

This pettiness and schadenfreude is probably a bad thing for me to have, but honestly, I've found Neil Gaiman fans to be quite insufferable over the last few years, so I've taken some pleasure in this fall from grace. All I want now is for to come out that doctor who is a paedophile.

No idea about court cases etc but the evidence is piling up that he's a bit of a sexual predator who abused his power. My guess is he's gonna pull a Louis CK and rebrand himself for the incel crowd after a little bit of time in hiding.

Not excusing his actions at all, but to be fair to Louis, he did just completely own it.

Unlike someone like Russell Brand, who instead did a complete U-turn on all his views and turned to the hardcore conspiracy griftosphere, claiming it was all a ploy by the Deep State to cancel him for speaking 'the truth'.

Yes, there's various shades of scumbag, but almost no one was holding louis ck up to be any paragon of virtue.

man, this sucks ... pedophiles and scumbags pop up everywhere.
now i can't really enjoy the books and shows anymore.
bummer.

Of course you can. You just need to account for it by accompanying your positive feelings from reading them with a little guilt. Don't forget that a lot of other people worked on those tv shows.

naaaa ... he's the main man behind all of it, i'm not that good at compartmentalizing

So some season 2 notes.

Apparently Dream is going to be the main focus.

Death is getting her own episode "High Cost of Living" bonus episode.

So it's a double finale?! You end the main storyline then have another episode be the last one. Pretty cool trick. Justice League Unlimited did this when they ended their storyline and had a Batman Beyond epilogue to end the season/potentially the series.

Gonna get released in bunches which Netflix never does (same with boys episodes) so I bet the season is actually going to be ****ing great.

And yeah Neil is a POS and I'm gonna pirate the comics when the show ends.

Season 2 starting tomorrow. Looks like the includes the full Dream story from the comics, which could have been two seasons easily; so should be pretty dense.

3 years damnit, can't say i remember much about S1

3 years damnit, can't say i remember much about S1

I started rewatching and was shocked at how much of the middle episodes I had completely struck from my memory

Like it wasn't even a oh yeah now I remember moment, it was, did I just not watch this series at all?

Couldn't help but binge the first 6 eps, it's great, but also as expected pretty compact. The material of these 6 eps + a couple of one-shot eps would have been the whole season 2 normally imo. There's a lot of details they left out in some parts, plus there's one main character from the comics they have completely written out it seems from looking at the preview. Otherwise it's I love it!

So far they matched the tone of season 1 to a T so if you enjoyed s1 I think its likely you will enjoy s2 as well

This was kind of my main thought exactly the word tone too.

Feels like a proper continuation of the story and quality of s1. Visually I'd say it looks the same too. Has a fantasy / dream like feel too it still.

One specific I wanted to talk about regarding Orpheus

HADES SAID DONT LOOK BACK YOU DUMB ****

Also wow his story was brutal.

I bet the Death bonus episde is gonna slap hard.

Kirby (the actor) might have been the peak of s1 and she basically continues to slay. All of her scenes were basically my favourite. She bumps with Dream and everyone as naturally as the character feels.

Spoilers for a moment that happens in episode 4 I believe. A Death moment that Kevin Smith thought of when he had a like a super heart attack.

I'll have to rewatch but is that not word for word?

Always heard the comic it was based off I think "Death: The High Cost of Living" was worth reading.

Also saw some awful trans stuff and the creep Gaiman wrote this **** in the early 90s".

Sandman was ahead of its time when it came out so I like that the show had adapted to this time in a similar way.

I think I'll save a full rewatch for when before the end drops.

2nd part of Season 2 is out. I was expecting that they would leave out

Spoiler

the Thessaly character

, but didn't see coming that they replace her with

Mad Hatty. Makes sense though, as Thessaliy's motivation fits also perfectly to Hatty.
