I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

I thought generic normative sentences related to "any one random person" were to be addressed with "you" in english.

Like i could say "if you want to become president you need to win primaries" even if evidently you weren't asking me about becoming president yourself

It's clear in some cases and not in others. It seemed that you were writing directly to me, and not something clearly not about me (like running for President), so I took it the other way. It wasn't wrong though, just ambiguous.

As far as definitions of words go though, you use "Marxist" so broadly that it has no meaning. Hell, there's something in the bible about interest rates I think. You could call Hawley and Sanders Judeo-Christians.

when i told you guys some republicans are actually marxists, this is what i meant

Josh Hawley
@HawleyMO
Credit card interest rates are out of control. Rates have DOUBLED in recent years. In 2022 alone, credit cards charged Americans $105 billion in interest. Today
@BernieSanders
and I are teaming up to introduce a 10% cap on interest rates - just like
@realDonaldTrump
proposed

So Trump, Sanders and Hawley are all Marxists.

Pointless talking to someone who redefines words to suit his own needs.

Marxists believe there is a capital v labor permanent struggle in society (and this is already false), and that the only moral option is always to side with labor (which, in the specific capital v labor disputes that exist, is often morally horrific)

trump lies a lot, the other 2 far less. If trump actually believes this is important and is willing to spend political capital on this yes that would be a marxist choice.

I don't think a 10% interest rate for credit cards is actually Marxist.

you have a model of reality that is more deranged than the Q-anon crowd. The claim in bold is particularly insane

You can't even use my own language against me correctly, but nice try kid.

Before the establishment of Social Security in 1935, an estimated 50% of elderly Americans lived in poverty. An estimated 40% were homeless.

Today, 11.3% of elderly Americans live in poverty.

I, unlike you, live in America and learned these things in history class. There's also this thing called google, or chatgpt, or deepseek... all of them will confirm my information.

I have a friend who is a teacher with a MastersDegree and 27 years of teaching experience. I have another friend who has been in the restaurant industry his entire life and barely made it through high school. The restaurant friend is a manager at a hospital cafeteria and makes 110% of what the teacher friend makes. And he didn't have to pay lots of $$$ for tuition.

he doesn't get summers off nor anywhere close to as many benefits though

your friend also rose to reach the pinnacle of their position, if you were to say compare him to a principal or superintendent instead then the cafeteria manager makes far less in comparison

my parents were teachers, as is my sister now, i'm very sympathetic but the idea that they are not fairly paid doesn't nearly begin to account for all the perks they get

Literally 100% of the time someone online is ranting about Marxism they are a neo Nazi white supremacists. It’s the dog whistle that never fails. Perfect success rate.

agreed, this is a good thing to do, regulation where it is needed for an industry that by and large exploits the poor and financially illiterate

The homeless claim is utterly insane. Can you produce any source that even vaguely gets close to that? do you realize that even 10% would be a grotesque exageration? do you realize that half of the population was rural in 1933 and in rural being homeless doesn't exist because a random shack in the middle of nothing is something anyone can build for himself? and that elders were more rural than younger people?

so do you realize your estimate basically means close to 100% of the over 65 living in urban areas lived in the streets in 1933? do you even comprehend how absurd that claim is?

if you basically want to cut off of unsecured lending the vast majority of the population, then do it.

I mean with 10% the lender doesn't break even even with low default rates given collection costs. Only gold standard credit rates would get funds.

by microbet k

Cops are the most overpaid.

Severely underpaid. They should be more well funded with better training and much higher pay. I can't imagine the stress of that every day only to make a very humble salary.

Good god, you're an idiot.

Good god, you're an idiot.

I know you are in complete bad faith at this point if you address my claims like this, and disregard the banana insanity of "40% of elders were homeless" by other people.

It's fine, you decided to pick on me. I thought you were older and wiser though. Bad read on my part

Literally the dumbest post I've seen today. Lowest tier "everyone I don't agree with is Hitler" idiocy. This mindset stems from genuine mental illness.

Fwiw, I know lots of black and hispanic people that absolutely despise Communism. Ask some Venezuelans or Cubans how Marxism has worked out for them. To connect anti Communism to white supremacy is next level dumb and/or just despicable dishonesty.

I wasn't making a normative statement. I just said it wasn't marxist. And it isn't.

"Our" teachers... you must not have paid attention in class.

Avg teacher salary in America is $60k. It fluctuates from state to state, but teachers are underpaid for what they do. They have a very stressful and time-consuming job, that requires them to be ON at all times.

Most pay for their own supplies. People like my wife, just paid off her masters a couple of years ago. She also pays for tons of professional development, and really only has about ~6 weeks off in the summer (and shrinking) beca

To be fair I edited and fixed our in between the time you clicked to quote my post and you actually posted. I could see why you think teachers are underpaid if you are only looking at their salary.

by ec_outlaw k

Of all of the dumb **** that clown says(and it's A LOT), implying teachers in the US are overpaid or make a very good living is up there toward the top.

by Luciom k

While two-thirds of U.S. teachers report receiving a pay raise in the past year, most say their base pay isn’t adequate, according to the 2024 State of the American Teacher survey, an annual gauge conducted by the research group RAND Corp. On average, teachers earned $70,464 in 2023-24, up from $68,409 the prior year.

by FreakDaddy k

60k, 70k, or whatever you want to draw a baseline at... that can't buy you a home in America, decent vacations, or help you build a savings. You have to mostly depend on your pension in retirement... and you can't collect Social security as a teacher. Most teachers in America barely scrape by. Most jobs don't require the education and training that you need as a teacher. You don't know what you're talking about, as per usual.

Saying that is over paid, is insulting like I said. I can say it 100 ti

To all who think teachers aren't compensated fairly: You are focusing on their total salary and not their total compensation package because it is extremely inconvenient to teachers wanting raises to focus on their total compensation package.

Their pensions are, from what I have seen which is a fairly large sample size, extremely good as they are often taking their highest paid 3 (or 5) years and basing their pension off of that - remember SS is based off of your highest 35 years. The % of that base teachers gets is (always?) usually much higher than the % of what a SS earner gets on their avg. pay.

Also calculate the amount of hours they work a year and also include things like health care.

in 1935 rural america 50% of the population didn't have running water and only only 30% had electricity so no comparisons to back then make any sense anyway

lbj's political upstart happened when he promised texans electricity in the 50s

Surprised nobody mentioned that the Great Depression was happening in 1935. That doesn’t refute the main point but of course the economic numbers were horrible.
