yeah one of my fondest live hockey-watching moments was going to some of the usa#1 games during the 2006 world juniors, including their 5-1 semifinal loss to russia. the russian players, led by malkin, seemed to really enjoy being the "home" team there
another was their quarterfinal matchup vs switzerland at the 2010 olympics. a decent number of swiss fans made the trip, but the crowd support wasn't enough to get them over the line, sadly

as far as i'm concerned, canada and usa are way too big of favorites in these games - all 4 teams are absolutely stacked and it's going to be a variance fest probably decided by goaltending imo ie canada was a massive fave vs sweden but it was a really close one that went to sudden death
Was gonna say the Finnish D looks anything but stacked compared to the US, but then Jokiharju scored with Määttä driving the net so I guess I'm an idiot
Finland and Sweden have a long and contentious rivalry and I can guarantee that people in those two countries will be hyped for that game. US v Canada should be good too. I'm not sure why people are down on this tournament.

There's established WC IIHF tournament that's a big deal. Ofc Olympics as well are important. This is seen more of a sideshow.
Maybe it could be bigger in the future but a couple of games in middle of the night from not established tournament format doesn't attract big crowds.
USA Canada Saturday is going to be filthy.
I think the USA goaltending is such a big edge though...
Tbh with the announcement that NHL and PA will try to establish a Olympics-WC cycle each every four years with legit qualifying, I'll have to hand it to them a little bit. Depends on the PA staying strong though because imo the most likely outcome is that the league will try to pull the rug on the Olympics after going twice at most or at least demand some ridiculous CBA concessions from the players to continue.

The league is dumb AF. Best on best showcase at the Olympics has to help the league. Especially as America is getting better at stick puck too.

Ugh yes this is me tonight. Have a meeting right smack in the middle of it for 1.5 hours. Going to try to go dark but wouldn't be surprised if people at the meeting are talking about it or its possibly even on some small obscure tv in background with no sound.
Ideally can not find out and watch it on replay when I get home. It will be tough.
