How about we get a new thread title to signify TJ’s glorious tourney result!?

Seems appropriate, but please leave TJ's or TJ at the beginning of the thread title.
It's like a homing beacon to me at this point.

Sure, I’m fine with it!

Especially since I’m NOT moving to Vegas now.

I’m gonna use this thread to document both weekends at Cherokee in May, the mini-main and the Main,

And then I’m gonna start a new thread once I embark on the annual Vegas trip, in June!

Not sure how this thread was fed to me but glad it was

Grats on the score

Congratulations TJ, great run. When you have Leon providing tax advice you know you've entered goat thread territory.

SRM you are a gentleman and a scholar!

Life has been going really well in ALL areas, since we last spoke.

Work has been just swell. I earned another strong performance review this year, which came with a small raise. And I’m still DJing karaoke on the side here and there, which I truly enjoy.

And of course, in my spare time, I’ve been making the rounds to different live games here in town, and playing lots of poker. I could play at up to 5 different venues, any night of the week I’m free, with good-to-great action at all of them.

I clocked about 50 live hours in March, 62 in April, and booked solid winning months in both months.

All that has set me up nicely to spring into May for my triumphant return to Cherokee!

The WSOP Circuit returns this weekend, and I’ll be there.

The first weekend, this upcoming weekend, will be my standard Cherokee trip I’ve done several times before. Leave straight from work Thursday, check in to the Econo Lodge Thursday night, WaHo Friday morning, then fire as many bullets as it takes in the $400 Mini Main to find a Day 2 bag for Sunday. In between, I’ll be playing 5/5 PLO for cash.

Hopefully make it another long day into Sunday, then check out and drive home Monday.

I arranged my schedule at work to work T/W/Th next week, then I’ll be going BACK to Cherokee again next weekend to fire the Main for the first time!

It’s a $1,700 event, with a $1.5M guaranteed prize pool, and last time, first place was about $300k. It’s a better structure, with 40 minute levels, and more starting chips than the Mini-Main. Should be lots of fun!

I’m only going to fire one bullet at the Main, though. If it doesn’t go well, then I’ll just have that much more time to grind cash PLO.

I’m considering this to be a tune-up in advance of the next big Vegas trip! I already have the vacation time approved, and I’m booked for June 12 - July 1.

Will I make another deep run, culminating in another final table? Will it go spectacularly badly, where I limp home a lot lighter than where I started? I suppose anything is possible.

But I feel like my instincts have been sharpened keenly with all this practice I’ve had in the interim, and my mindset and bankroll are in a very positive place. In fact, they’ve both never been better.

Stay tuned here, and we’ll find out together.

The countdown is on!

Looking forward to the Cherokee TRs and hopefully being in LV around the same time. I should be there for the Tribute to Warriors on June 15 plus a few days. First root beer on me!

Them hashbrowns have their work cut out for them, but I have faith that they're up to the task.

Go get 'em!

GO TJ GO!

Never thought to look for a Waffle House in LV, and was disappointed to discover it was a thing but is no more.

Hope you catch the run good in Cherokee!

this trip is simply a continuation of the perfect poker zen you shared with us before
possibilities are vast after the mind's eye forgets about the need to blink

There is always Denny's 😉

I have it on good authority that one can get a good birthday breakfast at Denny's.

Pretty sure b'fast at Denny's is free on your birthday?

Well, except the $100 tip.

Vegas has Peppermill. Nothing else is needed. Plus, it's right across the Strip from where Stardust used to be, when bleary-eyed poker players would stagger in at dawn.

I'm sure Peppermill is great, but I'm not about to wait on line to find out 😉 We might give it a try if we go at an odd time when there isn't a line out the door.

Peppermill is great. It’s a classic diner with huge portions, but with kitschy Vegas purple neon lights. They filmed a scene from the movie Casino in there, it’s been there since the 70’s.

Slight delay in plans, now I have to run home after work and throw some medication that just got delivered into the fridge.

So I don’t get to head STRAIGHT to Cherokee from work, as (I assure you) I’ve been fantasizing about all day.

But I’ll get there later tonight, then cards in the air tomorrow morning!

Good luck! Hoping rungood is your friend.

I don't know if Peppermill was an actual chain, but there used to be one in Santa Clara, CA close to where I lived. It's closed and gone now, but we used to go there quite a bit. It had the same decor from the 70's that you know and love, purple velvet and like that.

Good luck TJ

I stopped for dinner on the road at the Longhorn in Burlington, NC, which is about a third of the way to Cherokee from where I live.

The bone-in ribeye was EXCELLENT, as usual.

Plus a Caesar salad, it was a great meal after work to kick the long weekend off right!

It was $39, which is a fantastic value, by Vegas or casino standards.

Getting back on the road… next stop: the Econo Lodge!
