I was a huge fan of Roberta Flack when she burst upon the national scene.
I wasn't even aware of Nina Simone until decades later. My loss.
Now losses for us all.

Oscar-winning US actor Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa and their dog have been found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
In a career that spanned more than six decades, he received two Academy Awards, two Baftas, four Golden Globes and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
A statement from the Santa Fe County Sheriff in New Mexico said: "We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday afternoon at their residence on Sunset Trail.
"This is an active investigation - however, at this time we do not believe that foul play was a factor."
I just read about that and came to post it.
His portrayal of Popeye Jones is still one of my all time favorite movie characters.
Just speculation, but probably carbon monoxide poisoning since their dog was also found dead.
He'll forever be my football coach :(

Boris Spassky, all-time great gentleman and a rather fine chess player, has passed away at the age of 88.
When nobody on the planet had a good word to say about Fischer, Spassky said:
"If I were to be in jail, I would want Bobby to be my cell-mate" (non-sic)

Spassky said he would happily be Fischer’s cellmate. Basically volunteered for it. Saying he would do it under one condition.

When Fischer won game 6 against Spassky, a beyond masterful game, in the World Championship, Spassky went and stood up, clapping along with the standing ovation from the crowd.
He was a great sportsman and deeply cared and perhaps understood Bobby Fischer more than almost anyone in the world. Competition often creates bitter rivalry and at times hatred — but Spassky instead appreciated and befriended Bobby.
Like Tuma said, he was an all-time great gentleman.

Chess is booming bigger and harder than Fischer 1972 days. It’s in tons of schools, many adults have taken up the game as well. There are tons of chess streamers and there is a huge following on Youtube also, along with nearly endless free chess content.
The Pandemic (with people forced inside) made chess go supernova along with the popularity of the hit Netflix series Queens Gambit.
