Qs up faces turn raise

2/5 NLHE 7 handed

Game just opened and there's a few gambly players.

V - unknown swarthy looking man asking if we can play PLO bomb pots, my vibe is that he likes action. Covers. CO.

----

UTG loose passive straddles 10, V opens 50, SB decent LAG calls, H sees Q J and calls off 1050$, UTG calls. 4-ways 2nd to act.

Flop 200 (1000 back) - Q J 8

Checks through

Turn 200 (1000 back) - 6

SB checks, H bets 125, UTG folds, V to 400, SB folds, H calls

River 1000 (600 back) - T

H checks, V pauses for a second and then shoves...

If the 6 helped him he has axs and you are ahead of those unless it's a straight on the river. You unblock spades. You block sets. He could have a slow played t9 suited. Adding up the space bluffs v value it's probably a call. Why you called pre I have no clue. It's an obvious raise

I decided to just call and let him punt off thinking he might be the type... I thought I would call any non- river so I called. He had 9 7

Shame you didn't raise pre and then bet flop

Grunch:

PRE - Yeesh. We're only starting 105bb's deep with the $10 straddle on, and V is opening 5x from the CO? Think I might let QJs go rather than get involved, possibly 4 ways and OOP to two V's.

I guess it's okay to flat from the BB, if we're semi-sure the UTG isn't going to be squeezing much. If we don't know, or if UTG seems aggro, I'd probably just fold.

FLOP - With the UTG straddler involved, I might donk lead here, for 1/4 pot. Hoping UTG and CO fold, and only the SB calls, so we can get HU and IP. I don't like going for the x/r when CO can just check back if action checks to him, which seems pretty likely, when we have the board crushed.

TURN - I like the bet, but I'd go bigger, probably full pot or even 1.5x pot, to get max value from draws. When V comes over the top, but for a relatively small size, I'm probably just jamming the rest in.

What can V possibly have here that checks back the flop after raising 5x pre? 66? If he turned a set, we're just going broke with top 2P. Is he really raising 5x pre with 66?

This seems more like AKss - something that looks pretty pre, but then whiffs and just checks back to pot control, but now picks up the BDFD to go with the flopped ISSD.

Generally I don't like bet sizes between 1/2 and full pot on the turn. I think we're better off going less than 1/2 pot or more than full pot. Here, when we smashed the flop so hard, action checked through, and the BDFD appears, I want to go for max value by over-betting, figuring we don't need to worry about opponents over-folding when we could have so many bluffs in our range.

RIVER - Ugh. Any 9 is now a straight, so we lose to 9x and 66.

But what 9x does V have here, that raises pre, but checks back the flop, and then raises turn? Maybe K9ss? T9ss that slow plays on THIS board? I don't buy it.

This looks a lot like AKss that thinks you're FOS when you lead turn on the 6s, and that you'll fold to his raise, and now thinks you're giving up when you check, and will fold. He might also do this JTss.

I don't think we can fold here, to this V, the way this was played. If he raised 5x with 66 pre, or was slow-playing T9 on the flop, or raising with K9 on the turn, he's just getting our money.

This card is too good for him not to bluff when we check, and might make him a worse 2P combo with JTss. We unblock spades, we block QQ/JJ, and V clearly likes to gambool, so, yeah, I flick in the call, and feel fine about it, other than wishing we'd jammed turn.

Our line looks FOS - we checked a wet flop, bet a wet turn, called a small raise, and now we check the river? It looks like we missed and are either giving up, or maybe ran into some thin value and are just hoping V checks back.

If V is opening that crap to 5x in a 2/5/10 game, and raising turn, it's a fantastic game. He got extremely lucky as a 4:1 underdog going to the river. Top off, and start attacking his weak opens with abandon. If he was CO here, when you were BB, you'll have position on him more than half the time.

He's likely to over-bluff, over-call, and stay in hands way too long to chase his draws. Just go bet-bet-bet on brick run-outs, and watch him fold. Over-fold if he suddenly bets big or raises rivers.

Just be prepared for high variance playing with this guy. If he pushes for the straddle, or bomb pots, go with it. Keep him happy and at the table as long as possible.
