Survivor: GENERAL THREAD

Survivor: GENERAL THREAD

I wanted to post something Survivor related but realized there's no general thread about Survivor. Each thread is about a particular season or votes for hottest, best, etc.

Given that who knows when/if the show will come back, here's a general thread to post all things Survivor.

I won't ruin the OP with my content post, so it will come next.

Enjoy and come on in guys!

I can't wait for another cliche Jeff speech to begin the season. I'm guessing the pre-merge stuff will be bland and boring again and then once we hit the merge, it'll pick up.

3 tribes, 6 members, journeys, repetitive challenges, blah, blah, blah.

Either way, I'm happy it's back.

yeah it's nice to start up the Wednesday ritual again, especially for a spring season with no NFL

That first tribal was was like an exaggerated stereotype of a horrible DEI department, but it was 100% real.

I'm a Day 1 Survivor watcher, but only listen from the other room nowadays when wife watches. Had to walk in the room at tribal to see what the horrible zodiac signs lady looked like just to calibrate my visceral dislike with an image.

Sorry to see Kitty from Arrested Development voted out first.

I understand Jeff likes to make Survivor about people triumphing over their personal demons but I mean come on - did we need the Sai tearful montage thanking all the women in her life because she managed to decode a puzzle (with multiple people, including men, helping her) in what looked like the course of an hour or two like she'd just submitted Everest?

Pretty solid first episode.

The player acceptance videos at the beginning were a nice new touch.

Same concept, but a new game for the two tribes who lost the first challenge trying to gain supplies.

The beware advantages remain, but at least a new iteration.

The immunity challenge was another bore.

Tribal was solid.

Could be a good season.

That was terrible.
Survivor au is way more entertaining.

Pre Merge Survivor is a D+. Post Merge is an A. I hate trying to manage through to the merge every season, but it's been worth the last couple seasons.

I typically get through pre Merge by playing Surviving Survivor, but I forgot to submit this year so found myself fully tuning out multiple times during that premier.

Just watched it last night so my initial thoughts:

Pretty generic, although I liked the fact the two losers had to compete for flint instead of the challenges they already had.

Sai has to be one of the most unaware players in recent memory, rivaling Rome for levels of stupidity out of the gate. I always wonder if these people have A) ever watched the show and B) feel like a moron when they do.

Immunity challenges are becoming so predictable it's almost funny at this stage. Literally rinse and repeat.

Joe hooking up with autistic girl is like gold. He should be fist pumping all day long.

Joe has the chance to do the funniest thing ever.

He however seems like a dud

When Kyle broke the jug filling it with water, what kept him from grabbing the key then? The description said fill with water until you can grab the key.

And the camera focuses on the cork.

That would be almost as great as Eva BS'ing about being autistic.

Oh yeah Kevin. The old black guy is definitely going to flip on the young black woman

Man watching these early episodes is just the worst. For all the "I'm a superfan, I've studied every mistake ever made and catalogued them" they all seem damn sure they can start building their final tribal resume on day 2. Imagine being in a five person tribe and in a four person alliance, with the one person not in your alliance having no vote.

Result: you lose one of your alliance, and burn an immunity idol, all to impress a bunch of people where maybe 1 will be on the jury.

these first few eps have been better than the last couple seasons of new era, but pretty sure new era would be more enjoyable if you didn't watch at all and went in blind at merge or merge+1 ep

Sometimes I wonder if people's brains just turn off when they actually hit the beach and forget about every ounce of strategy winners have used through all the years of this show. People like Star and Sia almost make me think the producers put them in there on purpose for stupidity.

Already seeing the trio of Joe, Eva and Shauhin easily making merge unless they do some sort of swap, which they will have to do if green keeps losing.

People flying under the radar currently are Kyle and Kamilla for me. They could bring Mitch along as a mascot. Same with Justin, who is just hanging in the background.

So far I like this season. And actually, the immunity idol thing having to solve a puzzle wasn't a bad idea.

3 tribes suck. Old school 2 tribes vastly superior. Not a bad start to the season though.

Wow Justin way to put up a fight to stay lol

lol dice

Cedrek pathetic. You really think she's ever going to work with you or trust you again? You are going to be #1 on her hit list from now until one of you goes home, but don't worry...you got your "stipulation" that will save the green tribe (even though if you've ever watched the show, you know you are at absolute most one elimination away from a merge/swap/whatever AND if you're not, you're now trying to win a physical challenge with Sai, Mary, and yourself).

What a disaster the green tribe is this year.

Also, tbh I think the show messed up the mechanics. Because Justin doesn't have a vote, there shouldn't be a situation where he and Sai end up equivalent to each other, and that's what happened (his non existent vote was allowed to cancel out her actual vote at the second deadlock, leaving Cedrek in charge).

I actually think after the second deadlock, Cedrek should have been forced to rocks, and he was the only one with a rock. Of course, this should have been explained, and Cedrek would have been forced to vote Justin out at the second revote.

It seems that every season there is one tribe that is a train wreck. I wonder if it's a function of the producers putting the right mix of people together, or something else?

Agreed I was shocked when Probst decided to give Cedrek full control rather than 'forcing' his hand to either flip his vote to Justin or be the only person to draw rocks (as per every other rock situation ever)

Of corse this absolutetly stupid and ridiciolous situation never would have happened if production had any sort of brain cells and just ran a normal pre merge.

I bet Probst absolutely loved that episode.

Expert button-clicking from Cedrek

Yeah. She was already upset about them flushing her idol. Now Ced shows his hand by voting for her twice. Justin was really dumb for not making a better case for himself. Granted, do what's best for your game seems it SHOULD have been enough given Ced had already voted his way twice. Seems suicidal to NOW decide to change the vote and insist Sai and Mary bury the hatchet going forward, If they do, you're for sure the next out. People are so dumb.
