NCAA Basketball Thread 2024-2025
Quick OP here just to get us up and running
Things to watch for this year:
1. Can UConn 3-peat? Hurley won back to back championships with Clingan, Tristen Newton, and company. Can he make it a third with only one returning starter?
2. Who will be this years national player of the year? Zach Edey was the best player I've seen play college basketball in my lifetime. People throw the term generational talent around alot and Edey was truly a generational talent winning back to back national player of the year awards. But, now he's gone. So who can win the award?
- the 5th year guards in Mark Sears(Alabama) and RJ Davis(UNC) are a good spot to start. Both elite shooters and engines of an offense, they should lead two really good teams.
- the 5th year centers in Hunter Dickinson(Kansas) and Ryan Kallbrenner(Creighton) are also viable options. They'll be the anchors to what should be two really good teams.
- The phenoms: Cooper Flagg(Duke), Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper(Rutgers), VJ Edgecombe(Baylor), and Tre Johnson(Texas) lead a loaded freshman class.
3. Who are the contenders?
Lettuce college basketball
Marquette fouling up 3 end of game which is fine but fouling was too early for no reason.
i believe UNC just punched their tickets to the Dance fellas
the committee will be hard pressed to pass on a team that went 21-1 (0.955) in non-Quad 1 games (and had the SOS that UNC had)
I think they are 2 above the cut line, possibly 3. So need to fade 2 bids being stolen.
damn TAMU dude almost hit that full-court shot
now that would've been epic

Because G.I. Joe cartoons brainwashed me to believe in justice when I was a kid I set myself up to be unhappy no matter what the result.
Oh my ****ing god, what a sick game
When will these top teams stop playing their stars in these basically meaningless conference tournaments? Seems also like a good time for a team like Duke to let their top bench players get more reps or a younger player that isn't trusted to actually take the reigns.
The Big East tournament at MSG is as good as it gets.
Just want to comment that this year's conference tournament week has been ELITE and we still have 2.5 days of this left.
refs reffing down in Charlotte
quite the 1st half for Maryland: 1.41 ppp and zero TOs
😂 You guys are in IMO.
On the Aztec board people were arguing after the pitiful loss yesterday on whether SDSU should accept an NIT bid. I couldn't believe some people were saying the Aztecs are too good for the NIT and they would be embarrassed to hang an NIT banner. WTF? 1st of all, SDSU is not Duke, NC, Kansas or Kentucky. One Finals appearance and a few Sweet 16's doesn't make you a Blue Blood. 2nd, this a young Aztec team that would benefit from extra practices and games. Easy decision for me, take the bid.
Reddboiler cursed us with terrible games
How about now?
Rough way for unc season to end
Choke choke choke
Choke after being down 21 at half?
Looks like it's probably the largest margin of defeat for UK in the history of the SEC tourney?? And one of the handful of the worst in the modern era at all. The Kansas bloodletting of Pitino's first year (gave up 150) comes to mind, a Duke early season rout in Zion's coming out party, LSU and Vandy here and there have topped the 29 point margin.
Think the last four in are
Indiana
Boise State
Xavier
VCU
Heels only fell one spot in the Net (to #36 from #35). went up two spots in kenpom (to #33 from #35)
a bevy of bid stealers notwithstanding, i like our chances
the overall resume/SOS are clearly ones that get their ticket punched more often than not
- - - - - - - - - -
regard VCU and Boise St., they have Q4 losses. those are killers. they prob need to win their conf tournaments
UNC would be favored against 16 of the 18 teams seeded 9, 10, 11 or 12 in the current matrix
Indiana
Unc
Bubble
Texas
Xavier
Winner of mountain West in loser out. One possible bid steal of Memphis loses, vcu out with loss, uc San Diego out with loss.
My prediction. I would leave out Utah State personally.
objectively speaking, the discussion around UNC shouldn't be around Last Four In and First Four Out, but bt Last Four Byes and Last Four In
