****Official Beginner Question Thread****

Anklebreaker came up with this idea.

Newbies, beginners, and regulars unable to use google: post your questions here.

This will be an aggressively moderated thread, so no matter how dumb the question the worst that will happen is that it is ignored. If you start a new thread to ask a beginner question it will be moved here and you'll get a warning.

If you troll a question here you will get a warning. Do it again you'll get an infraction etc.

I imagine some questions will develop nice little discussions. In that case I'll move the relevant posts to their own thread.

Regulars, feel free to contribute as much or as little you like, but again: trolling=punishment.

do I do a log for 2025 or not? My past logs have been soo successful.

on occasion i find myself not really hungry so i just fast and skip meals

if i do this on a day when i worked out, am i losing gains by not putting new proteins in my body or will the body just feed off my fat and by fine

im not a nutritionist, and my metabolism is atypical. however there are some basics that i think apply here like:

your daily maintenance calorie total.

your calorie intake for a specific day.

if youre exercising with a calorie deficit, expect to burn some fat.

if youre exercising with a calorie surplus, expect to gain muscle and fat.

relevant topics(perhaps outdated? idk someone else can certainly correct me) might include separation of bulk and cut phases, intermittent fasting(i think some here used to do this, supposedly for building muscle mass while losing fat, if i remember correctly)

i would think a calorie deficit on a workout day or recovery day is like a very short term cut phase, where weight training progression is a blessing, not a given.

I recommend watching some of Sean Nalewanyj youtube videos for this (not the shorts). He's has science-based takes on all of this stuff. If you're not particularly lean there's plenty of energy around. The bulk/cut thing cycle makes more sense at lower body fat percentages.

I think a way to frame this would be like asking is betting .5 the pot optimal in a spot or should I bet .6 the pot?

One is better if you knew exactly what the solution was. One is worse and hurting your gains. It won't matter in any single hand though but would add up over 100,000 hands but if the spot doesn't come up much, it still won't matter much.

Working out at home suits my available time much better that's all.

Totally get thatβ€”home workouts are super convenient and make it easier to stay consistent!

Healthy weight loss is always the goal, but in extreme cases, bariatric surgery can reduce risks like diabetes and heart issues. Still, long-term success depends on habits, not just the surgery.
