Tournament Rake Calculation Question
Just a question about rake calculation at a local poker room. We are arguing about whether the rake is 20% or 25% in this situation.
The room claims to rake 20% off the top.
For example, what they call a $100 tournament has $20 raked off the top, or $80+$20.
He claims that since $20 out of $100 is raked, the rake is 20 percent.
I claim that since $20 is 25% of $80 ($80+$20) the rake is 25 percent.
Which one of us is correct??
Thanks!!🙄

For those who think an 80+20 event means the rake is 25%, I assume you would also say if an event is 50+50 then the rake is 100%, right?
Holy necro but yeah most people assume on the full buyin nowadays so 80+20 is 20% but thats also partially because rake and fees are "hidden" now
Gone are the days of 365 and you "knew" it was a 300+65. Now it's just simply listed as $400 and can be anywhere from (320 through 340) plus (80 through 60)

That’s why I like the Venetian. They tell you exactly how much is taken out of the prizepool on the structure sheet.
For all the summer series in Vegas they are all upfront about it now. 5 years ago they were all pretty sleazy about it--tournament fee in dollars at the top next to the buy in but then the fine print talked about a % of the prize pool going to the dealers or admin costs. I think all the two plus two members who aggregated the tournaments and made them searchable really put a dent in that BS.

This thread is the stupidest I’ve ever seen on 2+2, defeating a considerable body of competition. And this response by akashenk constitutes a neat and witty refutation of everything that preceded it.
Mods - plz close this thread now.
The rake is indeed 25% on the actual amount distributed in the prize pool, which corresponds to $80. The poker room that talks about 20% on the entire $100 buy-in is mistaken.
