THE Official 2024 PGA Tour Season Thread
I don't have a fancy OP or anything. But now that we are in 2024, and are back to calendar schedules instead of the reach-around schedule, its time for a new thread.
Was hoping for Rory, but would still have liked it to be a bit more exciting than this.
jj hasn't hit one good shot this morning
has to suck to have so much on the line and play like total dogsh*t
Spaun of the Dead
Revolution or two short from winning outright last night, and then you have to go up against the best driver of the golf ball alive right now to start your playoff. Once Rory piped it on 16 it felt insurmountable, almost like Tiger-Rocco or Watson-Cink.
Kind of looking like this is Rory's season to go on a heater. Wouldn't be shocked to see Phil's prediction come true, a golfer can only run hit for so long.
watching rocco immediately became my favorite golf rocky story
the everyman who finally broke tiger's left knee
Tommy Fleetwood
25 million in earnings
zero Wins PGA Tour
Fleetwood's an interesting study. Been on tour now for a while so the career earnings have stacked up. I think he gets through and wins several times in a year, eventually.
Cam Young still doesn't have a win. Has drifted down the world rankings a fair bit, sitting in 58th.
A couple times a year I take a good look through the top 200 OWGR, sometimes you forget some players who had hot runs and have lost form. Homa is obviously the poster child for this, he's at #75 below Rahm who doesn't even get points outside of the majors. Kitayama was nearly top 15 I think at one point, now sitting at #95.
The game do be fickle like that.
lol at using OWGRs
Cameron Young is #121 DG rankings
Homa is #171
Rahm is #4
Kitayama is #58
Not sure any of that really contests anything I said (obviously Rahm is still an elite top 5 player).
The PGA Tour used to have a 10 shot rule in tournaments where anybody within 10 shots of the lead on cut day made the cut regardless of position. If that rule still existed 106 players would have made the cut this week.
JT cracking under the pressure
VIKTOR!
not watching but jaytee donating two strokes on the last three to lose by one seems like a career leak
meanwhile my viking viktor hovland valspar victory dance includes a pair of birds with one swat
the PGAT is better w Hovland in the mix
forever a Viktor fan after he overcame those dreadful yippy chipping woes
Damn Europe will destroy the US in the Ryder Cup if Hovland comes back to a strong form as well.
That Europe team with Rory, Lowry, Rahm, Hovland, Aberg, Hojgaard, Straka and Hatton is playing phenomenal right now

Pretty sure it doesn't matter how well Europe is playing right now. US can have the top 12 players in the world and will still suck come Ryder Cup time. Wish that wasn't true, but its just reality.
The US team would improve. Don't see Harman, Homa, Burns or Fowler repeating as members. Replace them with Bryson, Sahith, and two others. I guess Henley will probably be an auto qualifier but he feels like a pushover for the RC. Maybe Spieth is left out? Akshay should probably be in.
Hojgaard, Fitz and Rose could be replaced I'd think on EUR. Does Rai make it? Detry?
<2 weeks til the best weekend of the year.
