interesting (ish) article on historical hit rates by position in top round/s of draft
Russ to Giants 1/21-10
makes sense tbh. Can't really slam the deal. Keeps options open re draft, albeit I'm not sure he would be much of a mentor to a rookie

Only makes sense if they didn't sign Jameis. They are going to be terrible either way. They need to draft a QB badly, so why have two veteran QBs on the roster?
Yeah Russ is going to be the starter, maybe they didn't expect to sign him when they signed Jameis.
That's if the Giants have any plan/direction whatsoever.

Oh Iβd forgotten about Jameis. Yes, agree that it makes way less sense now. Guessing this means theyβre out on Shadeur.
Maybe they look at a 2nd/3rd Rd guy or jump up into back end of 1st?
Maybe they are sure Sanders is going at 2 to the Browns
Them doing this should also signal to the league that they might be open to trading back from #3. So if Browns donβt take a QB and thereβs a team that wants to move up?
Or maybe theyβre just all idiots.

Occam's razor is slicing this one into a million paper thin pieces.
Giants ownership/front office team is 100% just all idiots
Diggs to Pats in 3/69-26 that is going to turn out to be a 1yr $26m for 2025 with 2 team options for 2026 and 2027
The play was to sign one of Jameis or Russ (not both).
Draft Hunter or Carter at 3
Be bad next season
Draft Arch in 26

I'd guess Arch comes out in 2027. His family are too rich and too smart. 2 years starting in college is way better prep for him than only starting 15ish games and he's on 7 figs a year at Texas anyway
Mannings will 100% have Arch declare if the giants are the first pick
lol

Daboll and Schoen will get fired if 2025 looks like 2024, so I don't think they are tanking
Agree. Was just about to answer that by looking at their cap and FA activity and those also arenβt a tanking story
I don't think this precludes them from taking Sanders either. Not like either Wilson or Winston are long-term options. But they gotta show progress. If they can put together a reasonably capable offense with one of those two and then also have Sanders waiting in the wings long term, at least get up to mediocre status, that might be enough to save them. If they get the first pick in 2026, someone else is gonna be in charge of making it.
I don't think most coaches/teams are actively trying to tank. Doesn't change the fact the Giants are going to be terrible and will have a legit shot at the #1 pick in 2026 even if they try their best next season.
Cooper Kupp contract that was sold as 3-45 has a $12m signing and $5m base plus some change in weekly roster bonuses as the only guarantees
$9.3m cap hit in 2025 and can easily be 1-17.5m with $8m dead cap if they cut him next offseason
