Circus Circus…am I insane?

Hi all,

Sorry to start a thread on this pretty narrow topic, but I’m looking into a possible Thursday to Saturday night Vegas stay in late April to play in the $800 Ultimate Stack in the Venetian DeepStack Extravaganza. Because my trip would involve both a Friday and a Saturday night stay, most of the mid-tier hotels are coming in around $1500 all in. I don’t mind a bit of a walk/Uber fees, so Horseshoe and Sahara are both doable at roughly $1,000.

Then there’s Circus Circus….

I can get one of the remodeled tower rooms for about $550 all in. I watched a couple of YouTube videos and some said it was β€œfine,” while others said stay away. Would love to tap the wisdom and experience of LVL. Anyone stayed there relatively recently? Am I crazy to even consider Circus Circus, or is it an OK room to flop in for a few nights?

One other question, has anyone taken advantage of the Venetian’s supposed poker room rate? They claim to offer one but you have to play six hours cash or fire a minimum $300 tournament each day. Both of those would typically be no problem at all, but if the luck is with me and I make a decent run in the Ultimate Stack, I’m not sure how I could also hit those minimums. Anyone have any experience in this matter?

Grateful for any thoughts and ideas!

Typically, for a poker rate on a multi-night stay, you don't need to literally play X hours every day. You just need to play a number of hours over the course of your stay that totals X times the number of nights. So if you don't play at all one day, you could make it up by playing 12 hours the next day.

I've never stayed at Circus Circus, but there's a reason for that. If you are talking about the April 25 weekend, it does look like this is an exceptionally expensive weekend for hotels in Vegas. If it would really cost you over $1000 to stay somewhere else for 3 nights to play in one tournament, maybe consider coming on a different day. There are tournaments like that running all the time in Vegas.

you must be a glutton for punishment OP... CC is horrific.
but it is an experience.

if all you're planning on is showering and sleeping there, you will be okay... but DO NOT leave ANY valuables in the room, specially in the safe.

It should be fine

Can use some of the savings and splurge at The Steakhouse there too which is legit good

Call the Venetian poker room and ask about the poker rate. If you're going to play an $800 event maybe they'll let you slide for the extra hundred or will let you play 2 hours cash, or some combo. Call and ask.

As for CC, I've never stayed in the main (old) tower, but it was built when everyone didn't cheap out on construction. I've staye din the Manor, and those walls are paper thin. Like Kleenex thin.

+1 for Circus Circus steak house... a personal favorite of mine.

Might be better to price other off strip properties before staying at CC. South Point, Orleans, Gold Coast, Ellis Island, etc. are much better and since they are off strip hotels, customer service seems to be better. Only slightly better than CC would be the Strat. Either of which you should make sure your life insurance policy is paid up and hepatitis vaccine current. If you wake up in a tub of ice with a kidney missing don't come crying to us.

How recently have you had it? I had it a few times before covid and loved it. Then had it a few months ago my and it was awful. It's possible it was a one off but I couldn't believe how bad it was.

while I don't discount that possibility... I have never once had a bad diner at the old school steak house.
the rest of the CC property is a dumpster fire.

yea the steakhouse made walking through that toilet worth it. i was very disappointed this last time there.

I heard it's a pretty common vegas experience to get swindled by the cc.
You end up paying more than you imagined due to mystery fees, you look like a literal clown, and you have like an hour walk to the strip.

I would only do it again if I'm certain it's like half cheaper, if the walk/run is a plus, and if I were grinding 1/3 for 12 hours. But pulling up to the clownhouse really takes you off the grind mindset.

I guess if you want to lighten up a bit and be the clown of the table it can be +ev in a sense, your fish may want to play against someone fun instead of a degen shark, so there's wisdom to be gained in the low rangs of the circus.

I've never stayed at CC, but my first trip to Vegas years ago was Imperial Palace, and it can't be much worse πŸ˜‰ For the price, as long as there aren't actually hidden fees, etc., I'd do it -- and I'm a woman.

I have eaten at the steakhouse -- it was OK, but too expensive for what you get.

I must say I'm shocked at the prices of other hotels. So glad we bought a timeshare years ago.
