PLO "pot" calculation

PLO "pot" calculation

When you declare "pot" in PLO when facing a bet, is it the total of the pot in the middle, plus the bet(s) you are facing, or does it also include the amount you must call, before raising?

Before the flop: $100
A bets $100
B calls $100
C declares "pot".

Is the pot bet $300, or does C's call of the $100 bet get included, making the pot size $400? To further complicate things, if the pot is now $400, C's bet would be $500 (the $100 call and the $400 raise).

Pretend you called first, then match the total amount now in the pot for the raise amount. So in your example, 100 call would make 400 in the pot, so raise 400 to 500 total.

Shortcut is 3x the last bet, plus everything else in the pot already (the “trail”😉. So 3x 100 (player B) + the 200 also in there (player A plus preflop total).

Sometimes made slightly more complicated when the bringin amount is not the BB size or the SB is not a round amount. The room will decide how much you treat the BB and SB as when doing the calc. (e.g. I just played in a 2-3 PLO game, 5 bringin. If someone potted before it got back to the blinds, or if they both folded, their combined amount was treated as being 5. If it got back to them and one blind folds and one calls, the folded one is rounded up to 5, the calling one at true amount. if both call then you just use the true amounts.)

The way I was taught is it’s 3x the bet you’re facing plus 1x for each caller of the bet plus what’s in the middle.

And if you are facing a raise after calling an initial bet, you don’t count what’s in front of you for the purp se of counting pot just the raise you are facing. This would include raising out of the blinds once it limps to you.

Thought so. I was told by the guy running the game I was wrong. Didn't really doubt myself too much, but wanted to be sure. I would do something about it, but this is a rare game that has a never ending supply of some of the worst players I have seen since NL started - a rarity these days.

Dinesh is right as usual, C can raise to 500 total.

It's unfortunately common for dealers to get defensive in spots like this, especially in home/private games. They just want to let the fish lose their money as fast as possible with no drama or interruptions. I've seen dealers just flat out make up numbers in order to keep the game moving.

Not only is this all correct, but the order is proper too. Don't be like me and memorize the shortcut before you understand why the shortcut works 😃

Surely this is the lowest cumulative seed total ever in the tourney? In other words never been all 1 versus 2 in the Elite 8.

I just made a lol parlay bet on the two sides in which I think ALL the value is on the other side. Anti heat check. It might work.

So instead of how in the world is Houston gonna score and stay with Tennessee, it might be Tennessee just gets shut down and dogs it. Is that what the conventional wisdom is?

I use a few different methods depending on what the bet size is

Sorry obviously I got in the wrong forum there for a while.

I was wondering how it was possible to have this many posts discussing how to calculate the pot.

Sorry I am in Vegas and mostly on my phone and the moderation tools are very hard to use or missing on the mobile versions.
