I'll have to read that article. I agree with Russia's perspective on NATO and the causes of the conflict if not their decision to invade Ukraine. So while I welcome the NYT becoming enlightened, at the same time let's be real about it. Them doing a 180 is nothing but them sucking up to power, not suddenly gaining integrity. And the speed and which institutions started sucking up to nascent fascists in the Trump administration should be alarming to everyone.

Actually I made a typo, I wanted to write "for calling it a proxy war all along". So Russia used the proxy term only since 2022 as far as I see. When it comes to justification from Russia's side, I guess everything is public here:

in fact, the West has tried to use Ukraine to weaken Russia or the Soviet Union since the time of Bandera.

For what it's worth, this new goalpost of yours isn't any better. Ukraine's actions and people as described in your linked article clearly isn't that of a proxy.
You linked an article you haven't read figuring it would support a view you already held, or you merely skimmed it to the point of misunderstanding it through your own bias. It didn't, and it doesn't support the revised version either.

Why would Russia want a ceasefire when they are winning? Why would anyone want a timeout when they have the advantage? What Russia wants is known. What Russia is practical and doable and promotes peace and stability. These neo NAzis running Ukraine are going to resist that because why wouldn't they? They've gained the imprimatur of the West who have even done extensive white washing of groups and individuals it knows are new Nazis.
I hope Ukraine acts stupid and continues on this path because I want those neo Nazis to go down hard. If they were smart they would probably negotiate with Russia and attempt to go on as guerillas and undermine the agreement in all sorts of ways down the line. But they are now addicted to Western weapons and support and they think they can just keep pressing that button like the proverbial rat in a cocaine experiment. But Trump isn't playing that. Ukraine was implicated in Russiagate and has actively aided Trump's opponents in elections and he's not going to keep fueling their fantasy of setting up a NATO military outpost on Russia's doorstep.

The only ceasefire the Russian regime wants is one that allows them to regroup, resupply and muster fresh soldiers.
Any other type of ceasefire could be a very dangerous proposal for the regime, as it could cause the certain officers to meet and talk who would not otherwise have the chance to do so.
Thinking people who have similar political perspectives have to be sock puppet accounts seems like a result of the same mechanism which has so many people on the Right seeing Leftists as NPCs. I've always found that weird because the Left is so splintered. The Left will sit around and have 4 hour discussions about what Lenin or Marx meant here or there. I have always advocated for a ceasefire and an end to the slaughter. ironically, its the liberals who want to continue sacrificing thousands of Ukrainians a week for Western Imperialism. the dehumanization that liberals show for Ukrainians (and Arabs and Muslims for that matter) is genuinely sickening.
This thought crossed my mind but the two accounts posts in different manners. It wouldn’t be too far fetched if it was one person purposely using two different personas but I think the most likely explanation is just two guys subscribing to much of the same propaganda and misinformation.
It would also be an inordinate amount of time to be wasting on these forums.
I've never expressed admiration for Putin and you have no basis to make that inference. I just oppose the expansion of NATO. So does Putin. I breathe oxygen. As Leftist I have the power to take corrections or reminders from others. In my hatred of the Ukrainian leadership I was, momentarily, insensitive to the plight of the Ukrainian people. Ceasefires are good. Neo Nazis are bad, but you don't sacrifice innocent people to get to the neo Nazis. You get to them some other way.
