You played it good. Its just a cooler.
If it was a fishy player, id ch/raise turn
I'd fold pre vs a 3x at micros (rake)
Folding river. Great runout for IP and fish so rarely take this line with worse.
Thanks for your input.
When the 6 hit on the turn I was planning on check raising but the villain’s sizing was so big it confused me.
I had the same thought when I was reviewing this hand in retrospect. It was hard coming up with hands I beat aside from pure bluffs.
In a high rake game like 2nl on ACR, what would you recommend my defending range in the BB be against a 3x BTN open?
I would just use the 50nl rake on gto wiz for a baseline:

If gto is struggling to make much out of it the chances it's + EV for us mere mortals in the spot are slim to nil
haha much appreciated!
A6 offsuit is really a trash hand, at least the A2o -> A5o have a chance to make a decent straight
When I was looking over the hand, I was kicking myself for even getting involved.
If villain opens the BTN with 38% of all hands, is it not worth defending the BB with A6-A8o?
GTO Wizard even has charts for 3x open and punitive rake (25NL according to their classification, should be close enough to 2NL). In Ceres chart above for a 2.5x open and 50NL you see BB folds 60% of their range, while vs 3x and 25NL rake we fold 70% of our hands!
It defends some unsuited aces but only with 3bets. Huge 3bets!, 13BB, because it's using a polarized range composed of very strong hands & trash hands.

You can see calling with A6o is losing 0,18BB, which is massive (18 BB / 100 hands would be an excellent winrate...). Of course the solver plays vs a solver, your real human BTN opponent is much weaker than a solver. But a. you are also much weaker than a solver and b. you want to move to stakes where people are better, so you might as well start using the proper preflop ranges.
Learning & applying proper preflop ranges is the best thing you can do to improve your game when you are a beginner.
Thank you, this is really helpful. I agree I have been focusing most of my attention on preflop.
I was using the preflop charts from upswing that had A6o as a call against a BTN RFI.
However, I did not take into account the rake and the size of the open.
GTO wizard seems like a very useful tool, would you recommend it to a beginner?
