Prairie Meadows (Altoona, IA)
Hello all.
Wondering about the no limit rake at Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Iowa. Does anyone know what it is? And what are the various limits being played?
Thanks

Recent Iowa noob, that just returned to the scene out of shits and giggles opportunity and I can't believe that room.
Very splashy games. Lots of otherwise just gambler players. Go from craps to poker to craps.
Honestly, my 1/2 hourly is unbelievable from the start.
Their rake is 10% per pot capped at $6. Meh. But the action is incredible.
Straight forward math poker.

Shhh.... don't let the secret out....
But yeah, it is an interesting room. Rarely anything besides 1/2 NL is spread. Fridays a single 2/5 will run but if you don't get a seat when the table opens, you'll be on the list til the room closes at 4am, as they don't open a 2nd 2/5 and players are more likely to keep rebuying than get up and call it a night. On Saturdays they will occasionally get a 2/3 NL game or at least a list going. Usually they will fill all the tables with 1/2 and have no where to open a 2/3.
Since basically only 1/2 is spread, you'll have the newest of new players alongside the guys that have been playing at PM since the room opened in like 2006.
Lol.
I actually spent 80% of my play time from 10am to 2pm. There were a couple of players who seemed to be the +EV regs, otherwise very face up splashy or ultra tight (mix of regs and degen gamblers).
Played one Friday late afternoon until the 2/5 opened, and had no desire to move tables. 1/2 had plenty of action, reloaders, and stations.
I never played much 1/2-3 in the past (just waiting for 2/5-5/10)so it caught me by surprise.
I hope the room stays the way it feels.
Does the PLO mix ever run any more?
I'm not as much of a regular as I was pre-Covid and back when the room was upstairs, but I haven't heard any talk of anything outside of just running 1/2NL, with a 2/5 Friday. Since they moved the room down to the main floor, they are down to 7 tables, so they just fill them with 1/2NL. They don't even try running any limit holdem anymore.
If I hear of any PLO or mixed games I'll post back here.
There was a list with 7 names on it for PLO last night, but I don't think they even had an open table to run it, even if they wanted to.
