1-2-3 AQ line check on flop
Hero: AsQs (UTG) $300
Villain: Older gentleman that has been playing solid (MP) $350
PRE:
Hero UTG raises to $20 with straddle in LP
Villain calls from MP
FLOP: 8s5d4d
Hero checks since I'm OOP
Villain bets $20
Hero?
I'm trying a new strategy where I check my entire range on the flop when I'm OOP. I'm thinking it's standard to call the flop since I have two overs and a backdoor nut flush draw. Is it possible to take any other lines here? Curious if I ever think about re-raising here? Are there any cases to bet OOP...maybe we just don't want to bloat the pot OOP?

Terrible flop, but I don't mind a call/evaluate if you are comfortable vs. this guy post. Otherwise it's a fold. I'm pretty much never raising unless I have a very tight image and V can be completely full of it. If he calls, there are so many turns we can't bet, and if he raises, we have to fold.
I think the check is the right play — no issues there. Check-raising would be a mistake without the A♦. Calling is fine, but you need to have a plan for good and bad turn cards, and it feels like the bad turns outweigh the good ones. If this guy is never stabbing light (classic OMC), I can get behind a flop fold, it's just not your board.
Let's say I call the flop bet. What turn cards am I calling vs folding? Here are my thoughts. Let me know if I'm on the right path:
CALL: any A (maybe not Ad?), any Q (maybe not Qd?), any spade (maybe careful about 6s or 7s
FOLD: rest
In terms of what size bet I should call on the turn, if I have two non diamond aces, 2 non-diamond queens, non 6s or 7s (2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 9s, Ts, Js, Ks) -> 12 outs ~24% equity. So a max bet of 20-30% pot I call. Maybe not even 4s or 5s cuz they pair the board?
We need more reads on V. Is he sticky, bluffy, aggro, fit/fold? How does he see you?
Vs. a good/aggressive player who thinks this board did not hit you, it might just be a fold. Vs. someone who will bet w/ a draw, 99, etc., who you can outplay, I don't mind the call.
@Javanewt
He plays aggro style. He sees me as TAG. I play only a couple hands an hour but always come in with a raise. I don't limp unless lots of limpers ahead and I have low suited connectors in LP.
Based on the description I have above this is a thinking villain who probably knows that my range UTG consists of face cards and this flop missed and he will most likely bet non-face card turns and rivers, making my life pretty tough. I guess with that logic then I should fold flop?
Fold is probably best unless you are willing to rep a K, J, AA, etc., depending on what hits. If he will raise your turn bet or bet big if you check as a bluff on a blank or a K, etc., just fold now.
I would call flop, but mostly just hoping to pick up the flush draw on the turn. Otherwise check-folding if we don't and V bets again.
