Kings went on mega-tilt and gave lead away

by housenuts m

Home sweep tonight

of course i didn't bet any or all of them

Habs situation is crazy

Youngest team ever to playoff
Top 2 salaries on the team are Carey Price and Laine (was a healthy scratch tonight)

Despite that they've outplayed the best team in the East after 1 home and 2 road games:

56.6 CF%, 55.2% FF%, 7.5-7.43 xG lead (5-on-5 over entire series)

Even if they don't advance, it's still been a hell of a ride and some valuable experience for future playoff runs.

Are they really out playing them or did yesterday's game skew those results because they were clearly the better team yesterday?

2-1 Capitals seems like the correct series result so far.

On this possible historic day, we have Gus making a good post for once!

Also, MCLEAFIN, tonight could be the night! 😀

Kinda depends on how you wanna look at score effects imo, game 1 seemed reasonably even but with MTL chasing the game most of the way, game 2 the Caps much better through 2 periods but the Habs made up all of that and maybe more in the third, again though chasing the game. Game 3 obviously a MTL beat down. I'm not sure why WSH turtled so much in both 3rd periods at home, it's not like they were up big and playing out the string. Roughly even for the series in xG seems about right with MTL's 1st line crushing it according to my eye test and the Caps with smaller advantages through the rest of the line up.

Of course now it might all come down to who has the better back-up

First 2 games Washington was clearly expending a lot of energy early trying to be physical with the Habs, so I think the Habs were always gonna have big 3rd periods in both games.

Caps came out ok in 3rd period of game 3, but maybe got demoralized once Strome annihilated his own goalie, plus the Habs top line was otherworldly. Probably also helped that Laine, who is a horrible 5-on-5 player, was removed.

I mean Caps needed a goal scored with a high stick in game 1 to send it to OT and Habs were super strong in the 3rd game 2 chasing the tying goal but Thompson was incredible. 2-1 series lead either way would probably be fair.

Anyway, the overall point was that the Habs are playing with the youngest team ever without their top 2 payroll spots and roughly even with the top team in the East.

Was Laine a healthy scratch? I saw something saying he was day to day w injury.

tbl off the floor like paul kariya/the undertaker

tkachuk should absolutely get suspended for that, a completely premeditated attempt to injure. can't wait until he finally gets whats coming to him (someone deciding in kind to take his ****ing head off while he's chewing on that mouthguard like an idiot)

Vegas baby.

Young team is great. Price payroll spot is irrelevant. Doesn't count towards our cap. Laine contract hurts, but only 1 more year. We may try to flip him in offseason. Might have to give up a 2nd or 3rd for a bottom feeding team to take him on.

5v5 score and venue adjusted for the series:
corsi 56% habs
fenwick 55% habs
shots 54% habs
xg 50.4% habs
chances 50.2% habs
hd chances 54% caps
goals 54% caps

pdo 1.025 caps / 0.975 habs

habs have been slightly better, but could probably stand to improve their shot/chance quality and defense. also thompson has been better than whoever the habs goalie is, so that crosscheck he ate from strome could swing the series. or maybe the caps will find their game again, who's to say

702guy rage incoming...... :P

Where's the Boomers 4 Leafs! Let's bring it home tonight! 😉

10:03 Hertl T. (Stone M. + McNabb B.) [VGK]
10:57 Spurgeon J. (Eriksson J. + Middleton J.) [MIN]

look away for a minute during a commercial and they sneak a couple goals by ya wtf

Lol Vegas 5-1 PP advantage. WTG Bettman!
