The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

Wake up to see Both Pierre and Jagmeet lose their seat

Yeah I saw the updated numbers as well and it looks to be that way. I wish they had just got a majority as now they have to make a deal with either the NDP or the Bloc

I am curious who will replace Jagmeet

I wonder if the conservatives will learn to stop trying to pander to liberal voters and get a true conservative as a leader. They need a trump style politician to blow up the party in bring new energy, Pierre wasn't it.

Lol. You have this exactly backwards. Pierre channeled timbit trump energy far more than any recent conservative leader. He took the party objectively to the right. And if he hadn't been so unlikeably trumpy, the CPC probably would win this.

Like we had this debate before. Like 1+ year ago or something, I remember suggesting that if Pierre just moderated a bit - for example proposed his own tepid plan to tackle climate change - he wouldn't scare away the moderates and could easily win. Now Trudeau ended up souring due to inflation regardless, but the point is, Poilievre took YOUR advice and threw away everything on climate change, came up with no plan at all in response, he was nearly a perfect maple maga candidate.

But still it wasn't enough for you.

by lozen

Its mind boggling He has no choice but to resign .

Doubtful, I would think he's party leader next election. See how Carney does in negotiations with the US. Carney has a lot to prove and do in the coming months, if housing and living costs aren't lowered they won't have another boogie man in Trump to use next election.

Let's see some examples of this.

Let's see some examples of this.

Hey it's almost like I predicted you'd struggle to understand, and so included a full example in the very next paragraph just for you that you oddly deleted when you quoted me.

Let's see where he channeled his inner Trump?

Doing your best chewing apple in an orchard impression are you?

Let's put it this way: If the CPC can't figure out that the maple maga routine is a good chunk of the reason they just lost - despite a decade of a deeply unpopular PM and very challenging economics - then they are unlikely to get the revival they seek. If the lesson you take away form it is that they should have been even MORE trumpy, even MORE to the right, well it just shows how bad your political barometer is.

Do you have anything? There must be some examples of where he changed his policies to channel his inner Trump.

Fact is he did the opposite and moved to the center, same thing the previous leaders did. As I've said, liberal voters don't vote for conservatives pandering to them. Pierre has said this in interviews, but he did it anyway.

Lol. You think stepping HARD to the right and rejecting any attempt to create a replacement climate plan - contrary to prior CPC leaders - as was already explained to you in the paragraph you cut from your quote - doesn't count as an example?

I guess he could have tried more cute insult names. More attacking the "liberal media". More blasting on about "woke" this and that. More calling Canada stupid. More cozying up to anti-vaxxers. More ignoring traditional media. More repetitive slogans. More endless anger all the time always. More sideways WEF conspiratoring. More blabbing on about DEI. More top down messaging and demanding unerring loyalty. More attacks on academia. More climate denialism. Etc. Etc. Etc.

After all those apples, you want MORE?

RIP Canada. :(

Those are all talking points he used his entire time as opposition leader and when he was way ahead in the polls. He didn't just suddenly change is message to those points to channel his inner trump

Correct. He has been a timbit Trump since day 1 of his CPC leadership. That didn’t change. The Canadian public’s tolerance for it, however, fell off a cliff when the conversation turned from hating Trudeau to hating Trump.

That doesn’t justify your “poilievre should be even more more more like Trump” narrative.

I never argued that and have said it was an obvious psyop from the beginning to paint Poilivere as mini Trump. But he didn't suddenly change is messaging to be "mini Trump" leading up the election. He changed his messaging to pander to the center and left voters.

by uke_master

I meant a conservative leader like Trump as in energy and a winning spirit, Poilivere a career polictican doesn't have that which is why he tried to pander to liberal voters but it never works.

I can come up with a few examples
The one were he talked about the crowd size and kept plugging it to the reporter
As much as some of the news outlets are biased him calling them fake news sounds like Trump

As for his climate policies that was such a low priority for voters it may have been important to you but I think most CDN's are smart enough to know anything Canada does is not going to make a bit of a difference and that the carbon tax was a wealth distribution tax .

Lets be honest Shifty Carney ran a good campaign. Most of it I think will never happen but Pierre dropped the ball the moment the election was called

I never heard Pierre deny climate change

Is that a bad thing? Both of them drew bigger crowds than there opposition did. What's the issue with talking about that?

by lozen

Do you have a clip of him saying "fake news"?

Lol. You are asking for one of the many many reasons that poilievre acted like a timbit trump. All the bragging about crowd sizes absolutely count. And sure he calls it "liberal media" not "fake media" but the implication is the same and poilievre endlessly blasting our mainstream media is absolutely a trump move and stupid af.

by Shifty86

Oh the crowds he drew were massive in some areas but when most of the country is pissed at Trump over the tariffs you really dop not want to sound like him

Im not sure if he used the exact term fake news as much as I loved the apple clip I think he just went overboard with it in . I think he had to shift the message when the election got called and the Trump Tariffs happened

Personally Id like to see a Peter Mckay or Rona Ambrose lead the conservative party. Rona would be great as I am not sure the Liberals would know how to handle a strong female candidate

by Shifty86

Lol. WTF is "winning spirit". The made up self narratives of maple magas is amazing. Heck, knives out for your own people if they aren't perfectly trumpish is also a trumpish move.

I genuinely don't even know what "pander to liberal voters" is supposed to mean. For instance, when Carney moved right and cancelled the carbon tax on consumers, Poilievre then went further to the right and pledge to cancel it on big industry as well. Where exactly did he dive to the left?

Heck on the final days of the campaign he was STILL spouting inane conspiracy theories from century initiative to foraging to carney going to bring back the consumer carbon tax it wasn't really cancelled...even more trumpian conspiracy BS. Like wtf are you even talking about?

by Shifty86

Im curious how you think he can stay as leader when he couldn't even win his own seat

Americas Hat elected a 'Tough Snowflake'... Bwahahaha.

While unelected people can't be the leader of the official opposition and are not allowed in parliament, he can designate someone to play that roll for him, bully one of his MPs to resign, have carney call a bielection, and then come in.

I'm not sure that is a good idea for the party, but the party is very controlled by Poilievre so I suspect if he goes for it it will work.

GOOD NEWS.

Well, in some ways it is bad news. As the extremes on tariff soften slightly, they also might settle at a more durable, longer term, and still very bad tariff that has the effect of decimating the canadian automotive industry. But I'll take any good news on Day 1.

After auto tariffs were a central part of the Canadian federal election campaign, Trump is signing an executive order today to soften the blow of some of his 25 per cent tariffs on autos and auto parts, according to Reuters.

The changes will provide auto companies with credits for up to 15 per cent of the value of vehicles assembled domestically. These could be applied against the value of imported parts, allowing time to bring supply chains back home, a senior administration official said.

Autos and parts subject to those tariffs would no longer be subject to Trump's other tariffs, including 25 per cent duties on Canadian and Mexican goods (which are on, but don't apply to Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement-compliant goods), 25 per cent levies on steel and aluminum, as well as 10 per cent duties applied to most other countries.

The change also extends a duty-free exemption for North American parts that comply with the U.S. rules of origin.
