is that the finished wall color?

Not sure which wall you mean. The yellow was the pre-reno color, just needed to re-paint where walls moved and touch up. The tile is, of course, the shower wall color.

I once said "wink wink nudge nudge'' to a young lady in my youth and she replied "Say no more!" and I was in love.

I figured any chick that was hip to Python was cool.

Her boyfriend was not amused.

But on topic, ixnay on the yellow a.

Hate painting. Too much work to set-up and tear down compared to the actual benefit. I'm sticking with it until I die. I'll do the touch-up and that's it.

As mentioned earlier, I think (without any actual evidence) that my attraction toward bright colors and shiny finishes goes back to pre-cataract-surgery days, when the world was slowly getting darker.

That, and the fact that I'm the worst in the world at visualization.

So Red, your wife: does she go, eh?

P.S. If mustard, it's more like French's. Not at all like

we're looking to redo our master bath and we're looking for any ideas people may have that we're not thinking of (or just thoughts on the design itself)

this is the existing bathroom:

the only real constraint is the window above the tub cannot be altered (our siding is extremely hard to find/match), so i conceeded to my wife to accept not altering its location/size.

the main wants are:
1) remove the tub that is never used (we have a tub in another bathroom)
2) bigger shower (current stall shower is 3'x3')
3) add storage

most of our main ideas/iterations revolved around leaving the sinks/toilet in their current locations, though we're open to unique ideas if anyone has anything. we've talked about having the window be inside the shower and frosting it but my wife isn't really comfortable with that idea.

this is our current iteration.

the upgrades are (in a heavier lineweight):
1) new vanity/sinks
2) new toilet
3) new shower that is roughly 4'x4' - this would be all glass. the single hatched white would be a wall built to higher than the desk so the desk is butt up to that and not glass.
4) a desk area for my wife / storage
5) changing the door to a pocket door to free up some room in our closet
6) additional lighting/outlets
potentially 7) i may add heated the floors

i'm by no means an architect or a creative person, so i welcome all feedback. thanks

I'm a huge fan of putting the toilet in it's own little WC roomlet, allowing one to use the toilet while the other uses the vanity/sinks without awkwardness.

I am a huge fan of Tubless adult bathrooms... Enlarge that shower!

Tubs are the WOAT. Only time I use it is for soaking and cleaning things. I wouldn't even think to use it if I had a nice utility sink for that.

I don't even wash the dogs in a tub...

I don't remember the last time I used a tub. On the other hand, my wife's daughter very carefully selected her new tub when she did a renovation. She doesn't use it to get clean, she likes to soak and read.

Agree with Garick. Even a wall between the vanity and the toilet is better.

Have you considered going nuts? Vanity under the window where the tub is (a little less long), big ol' shower in the toilet corner, toilet just inside the door, rotated 90 degrees (i.e., back to the BR wall).

Not sure how wide the toilet area needs to be (is 2'7" enough to put up a wall there? Maybe move the door a little?), make the entry ~roughly the middle of the vanity now.

This idea may not be up to code. 😀

i'm willing to consider/draw anything. i'd rather spend an hour drawing something now then realizing after i've installed like $2k of product that i should have done something different...

i'll give it a shot and post when i'm done

i think this is something like what you are describing....

a quick google search says a bathroom toilet closet should be 3' wide and 2' clear space in front of the toilet. i did slightly bigger to accomodate a 2' pocket door.

i threw this together quickly. its an interesting configuratiuon i definetly didn't even consider.

pros are:
1) bigger shower
2) shitter in it's own room

cons are:
1) with the window in front of the vanity, mirror placement would get wonky.
2) putting the shower in the corner would mean i need to relocate the return in the wall. i'm assuming i would have to shift it ~3' to the left. i'm not sure that is possible without significant effort.
3) putting the vanity on the exterior wall would require me to run all the plumbing inside vanity rather than the exterior wall, which it isn't a huge problem, it just takes up valuable space
4) significant amount of plumbing work in general to move everything around like this. could morph into structural work too.

Good points, johnny. I figured (mostly) the plumbing would be close--shower uses toilet's old supply and return, new toilet can grab onto vanity's--but I don't know if there's anything approaching reality in that idea.

Also would want to rig a fan in the new toilet room, I suppose.

I thought of the window more like a kitchen window, saving and looking out. Didn't think of the mirror issue. Maybe hang an extending mirror on the wall.

Probably somewhere less extreme is the right answer.

Plumbing is by far my least knowledgeable trade that I’m willing to DIY, so I’m by no means an expert, but I believe the waste lines for sinks, showers and toilets are not all the same size so it’s not just kind of a plug and play situation with moving them all around. Also the sink waste lines come in through the wall and I’m unsure of the orientation of the floor joists, so rerouting to get the toilet to where the first sink is could become a significant undertaking. That location for the toilet is interesting though so I’m not completely ruling it out. Need to get the wife’s input and thoughts. It could lead somewhere or get shot down immediately.

New fan is the heavy red square.

Everything is color coded and thin lines are existing and heavy lines are proposed.
Yellow: electrical (dotted for connections)
Red: hvac
Blue: doors/windows
Cyan: water fixtures
Magenta: cabinetry
White: walls (hatched for knee wall and seat)

I know my wife well enough to know this wouldn’t fly with her as the main mirror option.

Thinking about it a little, maybe a normal sized mirror on a barn door setup that can slide in front of the window when needed and be moved when we want the window. Idk.

How about this: Toilet stays where it is, but gets WC built around it. Could rotate 90 degrees, depending on which side you want the door to the WC. Vanity goes where shower is now, L-shaped, thus allowing wall for mirrors. Party shower goes where vanity is now. Closet door moves to the left to allow more space for shower.

this turned into an interesting idea once i got it on paper.

last night i had also altered my initial design to include the WC idea, which i think is also pretty solid.

i do appreciate the feedback. these are a lot of ideas that i never even considered and i think it's moving towards a better design than i started with.

Put the toilet up on a throne/pedestal... so you can look down on your constituency.

I haven't messed with pocket doors much, but not sure you'll be able to put those switches and that outlet on the section where the door hides.

I've had hotel rooms with pocket doors for the bathrooms. Do not like.

its not ideal but they make shallow gang boxes that supposedly fit with pocket doors. if not, i would demo the wall and rebuild it with a 2x6 baseplate.

I have pocket doors in my office with outlets and a switch. They also make shallow gang boxes with extra side room in case you need more space inside the box.

Showers and sinks are generally easy to move. Toilets not so much as the 3" drain causes a lot of issues with regard to venting, joists and max distance from stack.

Bigger shower will always be appreciated as well as a closed off toilet. If you're in any sort of cold environment, heat the floor, especially if you have tile.

max width of toilet space is usually 30" but 36" is much more preferable. Of course, older and/or spec houses didn't always spec great spaces for such things.

Of course, the less major stuff you move around the cheaper the project will be.
