MuckPls vs BigWhale - a WSOP June TR

Hey everyone! Figured since everything is booked on my part I will go ahead and fire a thread. After a disastrous last trip I cannot wait to be back for redemption and revenge against Vegas!

When: Flying out on the 12th of June with a quick 6 hour layover in Amsterdam. Landing at 7pm on the 12th in Vegas. Flying back home on the 25th and will stay 36 hours in Amsterdam. I have booked a hotel in Amsterdam and will enjoy exploring the city with my hard earned WSOP cashes.

Where: As I will be staying for two weeks I have as usual split this trip up into 3 parts. They are as follows:

06/12-06/18: Nomad Grande suite (first time staying in a suite at Nomad!)

06/18-06/21: Flamingo Go Room | 1 King | City View | Non-Smoking - whatever that means. I don´t really care, its just for sleeping and to manage comps

06/21-06/25: Nomad Atelier suite

Everything is comped including the Flamingo room, I basically only pay resort fees at Flamingo and thats it, 2 weeks hotels in Vegas for free! And they give me a bunch of free play and food comps obviously.

Why: This trip, as with every other the past year or so, is split evenly between work and poker. I will have a bunch of stuff I have to deal with workwise over the 2 weeks I am there, and will obviously play a TON of poker.

I will also (most likely) be playing the below tournaments if I can sell 50% action in total. I currently have 10% reserved with a friend, would be great to sell all of it so if anyone is interested please hit me up. I will most likely only accept cash in Vegas for simplicity reasons, please write here or send me a private message. I will also probably only play all the events if I can sell the full 50%:

06/13: MGM Grand stack - $250
06/15: WSOP Warriors - $500
06/18: Milly maker - $1500
06/21: MGM Grand finale - $800

Total: $3050

Reserved: 10% ($300)

Available: 40% ($1200)

I would also like to sell at 10% increments for simplicity. Also worth mentioning that I have an ITIN so all potential winnings are tax free.

That´s about all I can think of, I will let BigWhale continue once he has settled on dates and bought tickets.

Nobody, I have an ITIN as a Swede and pay 0%.

Ah... very nice
I didnt see that in the original post

I'm in. Safe travels and GL!

Just curious - why the Milly instead of the Monster? You get more chips in the Monster.

Mostly because the flights start at 10 am and I will be both jet lagged and tired. The MGM on Friday has several flights, some of them start late in the afternoon.

There's a Day 1 flight in the Monster on the 14th, but if you made Day 2 you wouldn't be able to make the Warriors.

Vegas and WSOP? Sounds like a good idea πŸ˜€

After going back and forth in my mind regarding which dates to pick, I have landed on a decision. I will arrive on the 9th of June, and leave on the 20th of June. It might be a bit short for someone who is battling a huge time difference & jet lag, but let's see.

I will go into more details regarding my plans when we are getting closer to the travel dates, but for now I can say that I have booked these two hotels:

9th-12th June: Plaza Hotel & Casino (Luxe Room) - will stay Downtown for the first 3 nights!
12th-20th June: New York New York (Premier King Room) - should be a fine enough location

I haven't decided 100% on the exact tourneys I will play, but I will say that it's 99% certain I fire these three at least:

11th June: $400 Grand Stack at Golden Nugget
13th June: $250 Grand Stack 2 day at MGM Grand (love these original names)
15th June: $500 Salute to Warriors at WSOP

Plan is to play at least one tournament most days, and I will have a schedule set up before I go that I will most likely stick to. At the same time, it's important to listen to the body and change course if I am starting to feel fatigued (or sick) along the way. So will obviously try to get some Cash Game sessions in as well, although I know these can be a bit of a different animal during WSOP (long lines, thus I cannot keep leaving after 3-4 hours as I am known to do).

But overall I am very excited about playing, and hopefully I can put together at least 1-2 deep runs in some of the tourneys I played. Although lol sample size, and I am well aware that the most likely outcome is that I will brick everything and be down several thousand dollars. Not because I am a terrible player, but simply because that's how tournaments can be.

But we will be in Vegas (and the US) again in just over a month, which is effin awesome! πŸ˜€

Excited to see a tournament-based Whale trip since you usually focus on the cash games. Enjoy the trip. I think you will have to run very bad to brick everything. There's lots of value in these events and the bad players can't rack up or request a seat change. If the daily events go poorly, remember that nightlies present a second chance every day. Volume is the key to minimizing variance since it's harder to run above or below expectation in a larger sample size.

Damn. I'm going to pretty much just miss you.

I've just booked 19th-27th June.

Yeah, I know it sucks out to miss out on such a huge fish πŸ˜€ (although a Whale is not a fish actually).

What events will you be playing? Or will you stick to Cash Games?

Cash. That way then I dont have to worry about acclimatising for the 8 days. Sleep when I'm tired, play when I'm awake. Staying at PH for the last 4 nights (somehow that was my only comp for that week so snapped it up) and intend to live in their cardroom during those days.

I’ll still be there those dates, decent chance I will give PH at least a small little try.

It looks like because of recent developments at WSOP I will not be playing any of the bracelet events. More on that later, but it has to do with fees and taxes mostly.

So anyway, the original schedule can be ignored. I will instead be playing the following:

16th: Golden Nugget $250 Monday Monster Stack
17th: Orleans $300 Monster Stack
18th: Orleans $200 Super Stack
19th: Orleans $400 Mega Stack

Did they change something? Shouldn’t you be exempt from taxes with an ITIN ?

did PH re-open their poker room? Last time I was there it had been closed down

No. They'll open in 5 days on the second floor overlooking the pleasure pit.

They changed the way that you have to register:

I do have an ITIN but it’s a bit complicated and I am not 100% sure how it would work with the WSOP. They basically require a proof of address.

I don't understand that at all. Why would they care? Even Americans have to reg with WSOP+. What a pain.

50-50% they care, not gonna risk it. It’s complicated to explain really and the situation is unique to me only. Anyway bunch of other tourneys around, no problem

I dont think its mandatory. You can still go to the cage with cash and your passport and ITIN. Can you imagine the 1000 odd Super Seniors being forced to use an app?

ETA: Well I was wrong. GG Super Seniors. I wont be playing any WSOP events either as I won't have a phone in Vegas quite simply because I dont need one!
