Is there a significant difference between PLO 2/4 and PLO 5/5?
Hi all,
Was wondering if the skill, gameplay, strategy, etc, would differ significantly between a PLO game with 2$ / 4$ blinds and 5$ / 5$ (or even 5/10, 10/10).
Live, casino setting, with some regulars (good and bad) and unknowns, some gamblers, some fish.
I have been able to win in both, but the sample is too small. Just wondering if beyond bankroll considerations, is the skill level expected to be any different.
Thanks for any input!

Thereβs almost no difference other than the players at higher limits are more willing to put significant money in the pot with non nutted hands and bluffs.
You will see pot sized bets on rivers with hands like 2 pair on straight, flush, and paired boards and pot sized calls with the same non nutted type hands.
Other than that generally no difference.
Is there some particular reason why this room spreads PLO with a $4 big blind? If using $5 chips this must slow the game down a lot. Using lots of $1 chips slows the game down too.
To answer the question:
I would assume there are much different buyin limits and straddle rules between the two games. A deep game that allows the action gamblers to straddle, restraddle, etc., will get enormous pots, which will attract more skilled players, and often very predatory ones.
I am not joking about the "predatory" part. Be careful. If you do not fully understand what is happening these sort of players have many ways to take advantage of you.

Thanks for the answer!
I did not give all the details to keep things short: i was talking about 2 different Casinos that I have access to. The 5/5 game, many people start with 50bb (the minimum) and then spin it up while obviously rebuying many times, some people start with 300 - 500bb. I am not sure what the upper limit is. Straddle up to 20$ is possible, from button or live straddle. I think restraddle is not possible. There are 30$ bomb pots every 30-45 min.
The other one (2/4) I have seen less short stacking, maybe because the BI is lower. But I have also not seen monster stacks from the beginning. This could of course be a coincidence since I have been less to the 2/4 place.
Straddle to 10 (not sure if more is possible), but not used much. No bomb pots.
If these are both the largest game in their respective casinos I wouldn’t anticipate much of a difference.

Thanks! They are both the largest and at the same time the only PLO game at each place. PLO 5 card to be exact. Sometimes 2 and occasionally 3 tables open, on quiet nights just 1.
I was just wondering if there is a much more easy opposition to be expected at the lower stake.
But from what everyone is answering, with some nuances and tips that I am thankful for, I get that there is not in any way a big difference.

Sounds like the same thing that happened at the lowest stakes. Morons willing to put significant money in the pot without the nuts
Bc I've grinded my way up with the same attitude and when you underestimate people and disrespect them simply bc they don't measure up to your standards in poker you're bound to fall flat or your face somewhere else in life where you're not as smart as you think you are
Or you just won't even make it that high up in stakes to begin with
Let me ask you something now. If all the people you're surrounded by when you play poker are such morons and terrible players then how have you not grinded up to some of the highest stakes yet where you're surrounded by almost all great players, like yourself?

Wow, you just interpolated the **** out of that. Of course there are morons playing poker. To say otherwise is just foolish. Recognizing it in and of itself does not give someone a bad attitude. He did not say he isn't nice or he puts down other players live. He didn't say he was a great player. He didn't say he was even trying to grind up to the highest stakes to play the best.
Now if we find out those things are true, then we can carry on. The only bit of evidence that we actually have though is that he has enough humility to ask you about your experience.

I have been winning a poker for 20 straight years. I have no desire to play high stakes. Don't want to deal with the swings. I have a good enough bankroll for the steaks I want to play, but I have no desire to be the best in the world, I have no desire to be a famous poker player, I have no desire to be on tv, I just like to play the stakes that I play with the bank roll that I have.

That's exactly how the guys you call "morons/terrible" at poker feel....many of whom have normal jobs or own a business and don't play poker for a living
If you want to play with players that aren't "terrible morons" then the best way to do that would be to hold yourself up to a standard that would take you to the highest stakes and not expect players at lower stakes to play up to those standards
