Kidcolin's log: back to basics (plus neck harness)

After much pussyfooting around and just generally sucking at life, I finally got into lifting heavy stuff. Basic backgr

How long a layoff was that? Nothing consistent since October. Awful. Dad bodding hardcore.

I have done some amount of airdyne and skittlebelling so not a total disaster but not great.

Speaking of dad bod I become one in under two months.

I've been following this Will Rattell guy on YouTube. I really like his approach.

I'm just gonna try to workout every day and I don't care about show muscles who am I trying to impress just gonna do what I like.

I'm just going to stick to nights after immigrant dinner hour so around 830-9 til 10. Fml.

First say back basically went in and did warm-ups because whenever I push squats even a little bit after a layoff my groin kills me for a week.

5/13/25:
HBBS:
70x10

Bench:
40x10
50x10
55x10

Some chins but my left rotator cuff has been bothering me with overhead position lately. It's fine.

Wtf is this new forum bs

5/14/25:
DL:
100x10x2

Press:
40x7
40x6
40x7

Ok

5/19/25:

HBBS:
75x10x2

Ez

Bench:
57.5x10
57.5x9 @9
57.5x1

Then some chins but my cuffs really not liking overhead right now not sure what's up with that.

Basically all I'm doing is 20 reps and if I get it in 2 sets I'll bump the weight.

👍

I don't remember, how much neck harness did you actually ever do? Like...over/under 10 sessions?

Probably a good line tbh. Probably about 10.

5/21/25
Deadlift:
105x10x2

Pretty easy. @7-8. Still double over.

Press:
35x10x2

Went light cuz right shoulder has been really bothering me but these felt good.

Not sure how long I'll keep training at this gym I don't like it much. It's cramped. I'm not competitive. Always shitty rap on the stereo. Too many Asians that are Not Thremp.

Prob time for shitty basement gym to jellydick around it before I'm brought out to pasture.

5/23/25:

HBBS:
80x10
85x10 @7ish

Should be at 100x10x2 in no time.

Bench:
57.5x10
57.5x10 @9

Progress. One plate soon!

Cuffs still a bit tender but barbell pressing not really hurting it.

First workout in my home gym which is currently just a rusty bar, 3 wheels, and a pair of 15s (all rogue dense rubber bumpers).

No back support seated press:
70x7x2

Front squat:
135x5

Deadlift:
225x5
255x5
315xf lol

"best" workout in a while, in the sense I was locked in and enjoying it. Quitting my gym that place sucks.

My son was born June 3rd.

6/14/25:

Seated no support press:
70x7
70x8

Superset:
FS:
135x6x2

Pendlay row:
135x6x2

6/15:
20 mins steady state airdyne

Like 3 hrs of sleep last night if that

Congrats on grandkidcolin!

Congrats!

Ty bros.

6/16/25:

Half kneel OHP:
70x8x2

Easier than seated.

Deadlift:
225x8
255x7

Just a quick workout. Abs super sore from front squats so will hit those tomorrow.

6/17/25:

Half kneel btn press:
70x5
70x6 or 7 I forget

Front Squat:
135x6
135x8

Pendlay Rows:
135x7x2

KC, I've read the last few pages of your log. I think you could benefit a lot from my coaching. You're really stuck in 2009 era training philosophy and it seems to just be getting you burnt out where you quit lifting for months/years at a time, injured, and overall not passionate or happy about training. Your training is probably neither enjoyable or effective. I can understand why it'd be difficult to keep up with all the developments in programming and training science over the past few years, but I've obviously been doing it and it shows. Are you still a vegetarian? do you eat fish at least? Send me a message.

I may take you up on that at some point in the future but the truth is lifting has just not been a priority of mine for a few years. In the past 5 years I've gotten married, bought a house, nearly doubled my salary, and in case you missed it, I just had a son exactly two weeks ago. My priorities have been:
1. My marriage
2. My house
3. My career
4. Being based and redpilled online
5. My fitness

My only consistent stretch was some downtime before we bought the house and I had a good gym I enjoyed and I was in pretty solid shape (decent cardio, 2x bw squat 2.5x bw dl, 1.25x bw bench (lol me)). Even you had a comment regarding it. I was maybe too light but I have no intention to weigh close to 200lbs again. I doubt I'll ever weigh 180 again.

I really don't care about hypertrophy and I detest bodybuilding training. I am just starting building out a home gym and I'm pretty excited about it. I'm enjoying my basement training more than I've enjoyed lifting at the "competitive lifter" gym I've been dropping in at by a ton. I think it's going to be a good year for me. I just want to be fit and strong so I can play with my little guy and do yard work.

I'm a good 5 years older than you. I'm 43. Practically dead.

6/19/25:

Deadlift:
225x5
315x1 @8.5ish
255x7 @8

Quick sesh. All I had time for. Nice to hit 3 plates fairly easy.

6/21/25:

Half Kneel Press:
70x8
70x10

FS:
135x10

Made a deal with myself if I could hit 10 the workout would be over.

Baby is a menace. I'm getting little sleep. Pro card will have to wait.

Congrats on the kid! Impressive that you're lifting at all, tbh.

You got any help? Nanny? Au Pair? Grandparents? Really helps a ton even if you have to pay for it.

Tyty. My MIL is with us til November. Wife is on leave 6 months. Might hire a nanny for a while after. We'll see.

6/24/25:
Deadlift:
255x4
315x3 @8-9

12 mins. Had a beer at lunch too.

Congrats, and nice job with home gym and lifts!

Whoa AB. Thank you! Hope all is well.

6/26/25:

KB Press:
24kg x3x3 (ez @7 or so)

Half kneel press:
70x8x2

Pendlay Rows:
135x6x3

Front squat:
135x5

I don't have a platform and I'm too much of a bitch to not drop these which isn't great for my foundation so gonna figure something else out until everything is built out.

Prob going to program in power cleans in the future cuz I'm lol low explosive now. Cleaning 135 is a task lol

I built something. I'm particularly proud of countersinking the screws and using wood filler to hide them all.

..]

Logged my first official workout today. I'm pretty weak.

6/6/26
HBBS:
Up to 165x6.

Fairly easy but hamstring is always wonky when I get back to lifting. It was already bothering me a bit between building this and doing some heavy hard work.

Bench:
Up to a way too hard 135x3. Lol.

How do I fix the image
