If you’re not an authority, then why are you giving your opinion?

Quoting this one for the 2+2 history book Chapter 7. BTW, there is no title of said chapter.

Probably for the same reason that he feels qualified to teach math to second graders.

Seriously. If being an actual authority were a requirement for posting on 2+2, the site would have died a long time ago.

Right, because relative to the 2nd graders, he is an authority.

Lagtight is being a dishonest clown per usual.

Please read my post again, and then maybe you'll see why your response to it here makes no sense. Thanks.

That was my point. Sigh. Jokes aren't funny if you have to explain them.

You believe yourself to be an authority on philosophy relative to me.

You are not.

To be fair, I think over half the people on the planet are an authority on philosophy relative to you.

What does the fulfillment of philosophy look like? Unless you know the answer to this question, you don’t truly know what philosophy is.And you don’t truly know what philosophy is until you’ve fulfilled it in your life first. In this way, I would make a distinction between social philosophy and actual philosophy. Actual philosophy is participatory and embodied. Social philosophy

I don't know what it would mean to fulfill philosophy, because I'm not someone who believes that there is a telos to philosophy. I think the point of philosophy is to make sure there is clarity towards what methods are being used, what questions are being asked, what arguments are being made, etc. In that sense when I talk about problems in philosophy being "worked on" I just mean that there are people that have disagreements on these issues and those disagreements are being clarified such that we are trying to converge on some kind of answer.

I think your approach is not very desirable to me because it leads to less clarity rather than more clarity. Oftentimes it's not really clear what you're trying to say. Like here, you are drawing a distinction between "actual philosophy" as "participatory and embodied" vs "social philosophy" which "is not". But I challenge you to ask anyone in this thread if they know what you mean by "participatory and embodied". So you're asking me to understand social philosophy in contrast to what it isn't, but I have no idea what it's not supposed to be, because I don't know what you mean by "participatory and embodied".

A joke is like a frog - you can dissect it and learn everything there is to know about it, but it dies in the process.

The late, great Comedian/Musician/Composer/Talk-Show Host/Author Steve Allen wrote a book on comedy theory. In it, he noted that one thing that all books on comedy theory have in common is that they aren't funny.

His philosophy is participatory and embodied.

Yeah. It's hard to be a participatory philosopher without participating.

There is a male loneliness epidemic and it is because it's a bunch of white men who can't get laid because they're dickheads.

They blame it on a) the rise of feminism giving women "too much" choice and b) being outcompeted in the dating market by immigrants.

How do I know this? One such poster has posted exactly this.

I wonder why young men are suddenly identifying as right-wing in much larger proportions than they have in the past. I guess we’ll never know.

Lots of factors pushing in the same direction.

Austerity measures - blame immigrants
Women having careers and starting families later - blame feminism
More visible corruption at the top and the general realisation that the system is skewed against normal people - instead of leading them to the left it's led many into the arms of the far right's false promises. This is mainly the fault of the left for not arguing coherently for policies that are popular with people but unpopular with billionaires who also happen to own most of the media.

I was being sarcastic.

If the left doesn’t have an answer for young men that doesn’t completely alienate them, they will look to the right who does welcome them and give them at least an olive branchβ€” even if ultimately their policies will hurt young men.

Dickheads get laid all of the time. What women don't like are the "good guy beta" types. They will use them but they won't give it up for them.

Yep. The reality is that every group is being pushed that way but young men have fewer reasons pushing them back. The far right is targeting them because it's so easy

The status quo is dying and the left is offering nothing at all while too many are helping push people away at every opportunity.

Cue nonsense about we made them do it.

Pandering to vulnerable minds with "everyone else is the problem" might work in the short term but its the type of indulgent mentality that always leads to failure in the long term.

Failure doesn't keep people around, but it doesn't matter if you only need 4 years to gut everything

If there is one thing that the men of 2+2 have proven they are super expert on, it's women.
