What are the Android bros using these days?

I have a pixel 6a and need an upgrade. Anyone have the 9 or 9 pro? I'm wondering if the 9 pro is worth the extra $250.

Also probably dumb question, but when google says they'll provide 7 years of updates, that's 7 years starting when? When the phone comes out of the factory? When you first turn on the phone? Some arbitrary date they've decided?

So all the kewl oot kids use iphones now or what?

I have the S24+ and like it so far.

I bought a unlocked s24 ultra late last year for 850$ direct for samsung... it was MORE THAN > awesome coming from an s22 ultra.

Last month, I bought a unlocked s25 ultra direct from samsung after they offered me 900$ on a trade in for the new phone, which was only 1100$ and change.

The new s25 ultra is MUCH MORE snappy and has a much quicker response time... camera is slightly better, but otherwise it is pretty much the same phone.

was it worth it... oh hell yes.

I got the wife a iphone 16pro... I would NEVER own that crap even if it's camera is SLIGHTLY better. I like customization and setting up my phone myself... the android gives that option.

I've had a couple Samsung phones like 10+ years ago, they were quality, but now I'm a much more privacy/security conscious person so I stick to Pixels with GrapheneOS. I'll pull the trigger on the 9 soon and post a review here.

Pixel 8 pro here. The 6 came out in 2021(?) and will no longer be supported in 2026 (?). So not 7 years, but it's definitely not from when you activate your phone.

Oops... they do claim 7 years for the 8 and later models. I still imagine it's a hard stop date for all devices.

One thing Samsung must improve for the S26 Ultra is battery - again another 5000mAh with the S25 Ultra same as the S24 Ultra. Need to upgrade to 6000mAh that you can get with some other Andriod phones. I like with the S25 Ultra that they have gone back to the slightly rounded edges rather than the square edges on the S24 Ultra as that looked nearly impossible to use with one hand (even though for its size you are struggling with the slightly rounded ones anyway).

this part is true... it's slightly worse than my s24ultra.

I have my 2nd Motorola Razr+ after being an iPhone guy since they first were released.

I really love the Razr, as it's foldable and fits so easily into any pocket. I have had no problems with the hinge or the crease - I don't even see a crease at all when the screen is on. There are a few things with Android OS that are a little better than the iPhone and a few things that are a little worse. But nothing major.

The only thing I do notice is that when I'm typing on the phone, it does not auto-complete or correct my misspellings as well as the iPhone did.

But that's it. As for the positives, I have found the battery life of the Razr to be much longer than the iPhone. Great phone.

Found the answer to my question in the op with this handy pixel end of life chart:

And here's for Samsung phones:

pixel 6 pro. nearing end of life.

will get the X when it comes out.

Love my Pixel 6. 2nd pixel version I've had, will continue to use Pixel something after Oct 2026. Probably cheapest one I can find that is still in support. Trailing edge tech FTW!

I am at a loss trying to understand people that always need the newest phone (or any tech).

Every 2 years even if I don't need one. Trade in value is generally good and Google gives me 0%

I buy my phone outright, usually from my carrier, with the specification of 'no change in plan!' when I do it. No insurance, no monthly payment. Never do 'refurbished'! I usually get 3-5 years out of a phone, depending on the protection. Best I've found is the clear gel cases with a screen protector added (note: check compatibility with your fingerprint scanner) I've dropped current phone a dozen times, no issues whatsoever.

And the difference between outright and 0% is?

Preference?

A credit check.

The 9a is adequate.

I use them as backup hotspots because they are $20/mo and cheap.

In general with pixels, there is an A and a B engineering team. The A team works on the even number year models, the B team works on the odd number year models. The rest is marketing.

Someone from the even year engineering team told me that so take it with a grain of salt lol

Do any other android users have google assistant call screening? I'm not sure when this started happening, but it's been screening people on my contact list at least a month ago.

Doesn't do it automatically, but when my phone rings I get the option to answer, decline, or screen. Depending on my mood, I'll often screen spam calls.

I "had" it turned on, but it shouldn't happen to my contacts.... or at least it didn't.

It's been screening my parents and my vet calls for at least a month. I talked to my girlfriend and calls are being screened by her uncle, the auto shop, her best friend, etc.... not sure what update triggered this, but it shouldn't happen. I turned it off. That was googles recommendation which is terrible.
