Got a nice chuckle out of that clip. Thanks, MSchu!

I have a couple of cordless devices that I carry on my M/C that use those rechargeable battery packs (7.2v? IDK, seems like they are 'standardized now?) - airpump and jump-starter thingy. One of them at least looks exactly like my cordless drill battery. I have a calendar reminder to recharge them every 6 months (year-round riding here, if you can take the heat) because they do discharge even if not in use. Hate being stranded, and having the right device but no power would suck even more.

Trim and toilet room door in.

I've been using this color of stain to touch up scuffs & nicks on the woodwork. At that area, it looks like a pretty close match.

I'd taken a piece of the old trim up to a few places and compared it to the color boards on display. As noted, I'm terrible at colors. Decided what I had was as good as any.

Once there's a significant area, it's obvious the new stuff is a lot lighter than the old (baseboard vs door & casing) . Not too obvious in the photo. Noticeable, but not terrible.

Not saying I mind. Good enough for the girls I go out with.

Tomorrow is supposed to be putting in the storage thing where the tub used to be. After that, just a little silicone finish in the shower niche, looking at the "scald guard" thing in the shower valve, me touching up paint and moving clothes back in.

Then, of course, transferring $ and writing the last check.

congrats goldie
the morning routine will never feel the same again

and i always suggest painting the entire wall if you touch even a part of it unless in the basement

Are you getting tired of using a squeegee as yet?

I like it!

Also get a regular large window squeegee. Cuts the time in half, works better and the blades are replaceable.

Lookin' good, golddog!

Turn that bucket upside down and voila'! Bench!

Thanks all! Guys supposed to come today to put in the storage.

Actually only cleaned windows once. Got a squeegee at Target, which has a little suction-cup thingy, and a hole in the handle to hang it.

Except it doesn't stay stuck to the wall. Sigh.

I will say, Beto (glass installer) recommended Sprayway glass cleaner and a squeegee. Works way better than glass cleaner and paper towels.

True, that would be enough.

If anybody's curious, many years ago somebody or another told me that capturing the "warm-up" water is better for the environment (as opposed to letting it go down the drain and sending already-clean water through the filtration plant).

A couple summers ago, National Geographic had a sidebar article saying the same thing. "If everybody did this, we'd save jillions in energy by having less in the system. We could build fewer processing plants." etc, etc.

I have a hard time my gallon or so per day makes any difference, but it's essentially a no-effort task.

Sprayway is ELITE... I use it for everything. absolutely zero streaks and no amonia.

does it have a little hinge on the front? I had a target shower mirror that never stayed on the wall until I realized that it has a little hinge on the front that actuates the suction cup.

I will look, but I don't think so.

Ryan (GC) and Marcelo pere et fils, the cabinet builders were in this afternoon. We kicked around ideas for the storage. They're going to get Ryan a list for parts, he & I will get them for a Tuesday build.

Then Carlos will come back to stain the build up, and that will be the last major piece.

While there, Ryan was able to make the adjustment to the shower valve. It felt hotter by hand, seems like a good fix.

I fooled around with the latch side of the fence. Only made one screw-up, and it's nothing major. I made a workaround, it will be fine. Seems as if it's working. May get back to it someday.

This gorgeous Bearded Iris bloomed today. It was here when I moved in!

Buddha club... but I only have rocks here in the desert...

Storage built today.

Looks pretty nice, seems to be functional. I think I might take a stab at starting the staining this afternoon. I figure I can get the shelves and interior, and see how it goes.

that looks great...

Thanks, MSchu!

While having lunch, got a text that Carlos' number for staining the cabinets was $615.

Seems a bit much, and also something I wanted to get better at, so I told them I'd take a shot. I have a bag full of old socks, and the stain we used for the trim. A couple hours later:

I'm sure it's not a pro-level job, but it will work. Came out pretty light, I may apply a second coat.

Nice day out, so I was able to open the windows and run the fan--fumes not too bad.

I can't zoom in enough to see for sure, but is it lockable? I like lockable. Keeps the idle hands out...

Out of the bathroom cabinets?
It never occurred to me to keep my bathroom secure but it makes sense, because Neutrogena bath soap has gotten pretty expensive.

I've heard that the most secure place to have a hidden safe is in the kitchen because no one looking for valuables looks in a kitchen.

Nah. Why put a lock on something in the bathroom to show your nosey guests where the good stuff is? A lock in there isn't gonna keep anyone else out of a cabinet.

I should probably search, but what would you think the average time is to add an extra bedroom? It would be via a dormer. I met with the contractor and architect today and the answer was a year from today.

FWIW, I very much want to work with them. I likely depends on the estimate and I should probably shop around, but that seems extensive.

Nah. If somebody comes in and needs an extra toothbrush, have at it.

Hmmm. May have to move my safe.

Maybe ask a clarifying question: is it one year from start of work, or one year from signing, but they won't start for X time cuz they're on other jobs.

-------------------------------

Touched up the paint around the cabinets this morning. For now, have decided against a second coat of stain, but won't rule it out long term.

Pretty sure I won't hit the inside surfaces if I apply a second, though.

Once Sebastian comes in to put the final bit of silicone around the shower niche, I do a transfer to checking, write one last check, and we're done.

The mailbox post seems like it's rotted out. Still standing, but leaning and wobbly; being supported by some paving stones right now. Seems to be on my property, so maybe this summer I will dig it out and replace. That seems like something perilously close to work though. Going to wander up to HD for something to do to see if they carry replacement posts.

6-8 months... of everything goes well for an addition as opposed to remodel.

I wonder if you should think about sealing all the stuff you stained in the bathroom due to the high water content in the air? I am not a painter.

Possible. I have been considering putting some poly on there for the finish, that's a good point too.

Not today's project though. I'm kinda tired of it right now.

strong second of mark's recommendation
applying a couple of coats of poly is cheap and easy...just be sure the stain is dry and follow the instructions
