I had never heard of the term Sweeps (or Sweepstakes) Casino. Looked online and found lists of places and articles about states trying to ban them, but no definition. What exactly are these things?


Bill in Arkansas to ban sweepstakes died quickly. Arkansas, Maryland and Mississippi are in the clear for now.

Legal gray area that allows online gambling in the US under sweepstakes law. You purchase play money “gold coins” and are awarded free “sweeps coins.” The gold coins are worthless but the sweeps coins can be exchanged for “cash prizes” at a rate of $1 per 1 sweeps coin. It sounds confusing but it is very simple once you start doing it.

Sites like Global Poker, ClubWPT Gold, and Stake.us offer legal real money online poker in the US under these conditions. There are also sportsbooks and online casinos that do the same thing.
