Bridge
Does anyone else on this forum play bridge? I was told by a successful poker-playing buddy that it would make my NLHE g
You are asking about the playing, I put question marks on the bidding.
I bet 6H would have been an excellent score and with two red queens missing, 7H is risky.
Finesse is strictly better. Playing from the top wins if Qx is behind, finesse wins if Qxx is onside. The Q is more likely to be with the 3-card suit, so finesse is better
Yeah any slam would have been 80% or there abouts
Headed to Schaumburg for my first team trials in many years. Have played 3 in the past. All started with RR. Missed by one VP once, qualified then lost to eventual BB champs once, and came dead last the third time.
My first draw is Fleisher, 2/3 of which won the BB in 2019. Wish me luck, I’ll surely need it.
GL to you and PC!
Lost by a mere 24 imps over 120 boards…we beat the spread by a mile…
Ugh, lost in the USA2 by 18.
As someone who hasn't played in a long time, and never in a tournament, I found this very interesting.
Been a while since I have had a suspected cheating post...
But opponent is on lead with
KQJxx
QJx
JTxx
x
Their partner had opened 3C, and RHO bid 3NT. Opponent leads a small spade to find their partner with Ax of spades. Spades are 3-3 so normal Ks lead works, but come on.

That could well be someone who 'always' leads 4th best, period.
EDGAR does a great job of parsing this stuff; but you can do some of your own research to see if they are just bad, or dumb cheaters.

EDGAR has done its job and this is the most highly sus thing I have seen in quite some time
Yeah the first thing I do when I am suspicious is check their history. If they are sub 50% for the past month, or just first time partners I ignore it.
In this case they are 59% for the last month.
Oh and the hand before this it went 1C (strong art)-(1H)-pass-(2C)-X-(P)
Opp with a 4441 shape playing in MPs decided to bid 2D instead of 2S. 1C opener was 3442.
One more hand from their history
KJxx
x
Kxx
AQxxx
2C (prec 2c)-(3D)-3H-(4D)
Now finds a 4S bid when partner is 4621 and 4S is a maker, come on
Yes, Chuck, that makes it more likely they are cheating.
When you say "EDGAR has done its job", do you mean that it has already looked at all of the pairs in the ACBL? If so, this is not correct as of this typing.

Oh no. But the fact that this is the first time in quite some time I have been suspicious means it has been doing its job. EDGAR got a pair at my local club...when they say it is sometimes the ones you would least suspect...damn
Both held high-level positions in the district and unit and were well-liked.
But the IBA report crossed all the t's and dotted all the i's and left no doubt they were cheating.
Got away with a very nice play in this week's weekly free - this is against BBO's robots so they're playing pretty standard stuff, will spoiler what I actually did to get 100% on the board, but this was one of the more interesting spots I've seen recently.
r/r MPs, bidding goes 1NT from LHO then RHO bids Stayman, we have:
KJ32
void
A72
AKQ842
Spoiler
clearly partner has nothing, clearly they are about to find a heart fit, doubling to show legit clubs would not stop them doing that, so I bid 2S and pretend I have rebiddable spades, which gets passed out and partner's 4513 0 HCP monster is enough to make 10 tricks
I don't know how anyone could do anything else but bid 3♣
That is playing bridge. 2♠ is playing roulette. Congrats on being lucky
Had this one come up in Philly
Last day of NABC+ open pairs.
w/w MPs 2nd seat
♠ A Q T 6 5 4
♥ J
♦ A K
♣ Q T 4 2
RHO deals.
(1♥)-1♠-(3♥)*-p
(p)-?
Alerted as a mixed raise.
Not sure if it helps but LHO is Eldad, and RHO I think is a client.
First decision, do we bid on?
Spoiler
I doubled. I figured 3H might not score well that these colors, and I have a bit more than I promised with a NV overcall.
LHO passes, partner bids 3♠ and RHO bids 4♥.
Second decision, anything to do here?
Spoiler
I then doubled (this might be loose, but I do sort of want to take swings with marginal double in a final).
Spoiler
Declarer made 4 for +590. They should always make 6, so we somehow still got a 24% board.

How bad is doubling first round and bidding spades the next (up to 4S)? Partner is going to basically figure out your shape and get you to the right spot.

If double then it goes 2H pass 4H, what would happen with 4S then idk, anyone going 5C got penalty smashed and went down 1 or 2
As for 3C that gets passed out

Don't pass. You have a monster for your NV overcall. 4S can be cold with partner having less than 6HCP
After that, I pass. I have already shown my extras, partner has given me the absolute minimum response on my DBL. If we can beat 4H, partner needs to have a defensive trick and he'll know to double 4H or maybe 4s with Kxx, xxx, xxxx, Jxx
Justin Lall memorial bump
5 years since he died. RIP
oof, rip fmk
RIP my man
no good segue, but man, I hate Bermuda bowl hours are exactly my sleeping hours
HAHAHAHAHA THIS IS THE BEST LOL BOTS MOMENT EVER

LHO leads Tc
Spoiler
east in their infinite wisdom decides not to overtake and win seven rounds of clubs. west switches to the Qd, I win, bang down two more rounds of diamonds so I can at least get an entry to dummy to maybe take the heart finesse later, west now switches to a LOW spade, runs round to my ten, cash As just in case they're breaking, cross over to dummy, take heart finesse, cash last heart winner
2NT= 100% thank you come again
Anyone going to SF?
