everyone likes a good comeback story

I'll just put my head down now and work harder (and smarter) than I have.

The next post will be once I've passed $600.

I'll be back in under a week. Mark my words.

ay bro, u wanna go pro so always keep the bigger picture in mind, get better every single day,

dont let the ebbs and flows of the bankroll sway you, 500$ is gonna be hand to hand variance one day

it doesent matter if u can hit an X amount of dollars in some time, just focus on the learning milestones

I'm rooting for you!
What's your BB / 100?

You're absolutely right.

Even though it's a fact that I ran bad yesterday, looking back at it I could've (and should've) done so many things differently top mitigate my losses.

I'll do my best to learn from it and not let it affect me too much mentally.

I appreciate u.

Not sure. I'll make sure to get some sort of a tracking software once I've built my bankroll a little more. I have no clue what's the best software for tracking plo results.

I used to have pt4 for holdem but haven't bought a plo subscription for it (not yet atleast).

Had to take it a little easier for a couple of days.

Only 500 hands today. +$60.

Back to my regular schedule tomorrow.

20 minutes into playing, I was just checking how much I would get as a table share if there was a BBJ on my table (I've never witnessed a BBJ before).

Literally 30 seconds later a guy on my table won a BBJ.

+$111.74 from thin air.

There is a god ♨︎_♨︎

I've pretty much recovered from that damn downswing now. It's greatly appreciated :3

I've probably played close to quarter of a million hands on GG in total. First time seeing one.

I'll do a Week 1 recap post tomorrow or later on today *^____^*

running a little better now πŸ˜‰

This is really good advice from @JTF2. And after reading your blog, @Supposably, I also want to share my take on this. This is just my opinion, and I could easily be wrong.

I would spend more time studyingβ€”maybe 75% studying and 25% playing, or perhaps study for a whole day and play the next day. Studying is hard, and your brain will resist at first; you might not be able to study for a whole day because your brain will get drained quite fast. But the brain is like a muscle: if you do it regularly, it will adapt, and you'll be able to study for longer periods and achieve deeper concentration, which, in turn, will allow you to grasp more complicated aspects of poker.

Winning or losing during a session doesn't really matter. In fact, even winning or losing during a month doesn't matter all that much, because winning players might have losing months at times. At lower stakes, if you study enough, you will notice very quickly that you make better decisions than your opponents, and you will simply enjoy playing, knowing that you make more +EV decisions than they do. And if you notice that you are playing better than your opponents, then you won’t care if you lose a session, because you’ll be very confident that you're crushing everyone.

It gets hard when you reach high stakes, because then you are playing against the best of the best and it's hard to stay super confident about beating everyone, especially during losing months, but that's not your problem right now. With your current approach, though, you will have a hard time reaching high stakes, because the emotions you experience during every losing session or hand will take a toll on your mind.

So I would completely change the approach. Tilting isn’t something pro players experience on a daily basis. We are all human, so it’s still possible to get tilted, but for me, it used to happen only once every six months or so. Even when I did get tilted, it never affected my decisions (I just experienced anger and lot's of adrenaline), because poker decisions can’t be based on emotions. If they are, then you’re just gamblingβ€”and gambling would tilt me even more.

I think you're mostly right. I'll definitely keep this in mind and probably try out a different approach. Though I think 75% studying at this point is pretty overboard.

if you get bored try rush on gg, that's the route I went down

Once I climb up in stakes a little more I'll start implementing more studying into my routine incrementally. A lot of studying at the higher stakes is almost purely done with solvers/trainers (your sessions will largely include studying gto). At this point, sitting infront of gto trainers for hours doesn't make much sense, because the player pool at my stakes play all kinds of mental strategies. Focusing too much on GTO will probably lead me to develop habits that aren't suitable for my stakes at the moment.

With that being said, there are many different things to study, so I'll find something worthwhile (even at .10/.25). Just the 75%/25% approach seems a little much for now.
Something like 40%study/60%play might be ideal. I've been considering your comment, and by chance I've been reading a book called "The Art of Learning" by Josh Waitzkin, which delves into very similar concepts about one's approach to learning. I'm going to implement a lot more studying into my routine. And subsequently, when I play, I'll do my best to achieve deep focus and actually implement the things I've learned into my game.

What you said about enjoying the game more when I know I'm making better decisions, and therefor experiencing less tilt, is definitely 100% true. Your approach is definitely the smarter way to go. I'll try to find a good balance between studying and playing.

Thanks for your comment. It's definitely made me think.

I just noticed I use the word "definitely" way too much.

Here's the Week 1-ish graph I was meant to post ages ago:

Bankroll: $529.86

New schedule:

- 3 hours of focused study in the morning
- 6-8 hours of playing (4 tables, 2 hour sessions)
- Mark hands during session and review hands at the end of the day (~1hr)

Do this^ every day, taking a weekend off once every two weeks to recharge.

simple.

Moving forward I will post a "Week # results" at the end of every week.

Other than that I'll just post any noteworthy updates and whatnot.

Which tools are you using for study purposes?
Just discovered there's a free trainer on

. Helping me a lot for preflop selection. Noticed I've not been playing very well from the BB vs BTN opens.

I've been using PLO mastermind a little. Mostly I watch run it once pro videos and some free content anywhere I can. Also reviewing my own hands.
Once I start seeing more consistent profits, I'll invest in RIO vision or PLO mastermind 200€/month sub with the trainer/solver.

One of my goals is to fund my poker studies 100% through poker, which is why I only have a 25€/month RIO sub.

alrighty-roo =.=

online poker is alive afterall

I'm starting to realize more and more that I actually need to make this work.
My goal is to reach high stakes and play poker full time as soon as possible. I need to act like I mean it.
I always take shortcuts and don't stick to my plans in and out of poker. I can't keep doing that.

I either lock in now, or regret it greatly later in life.

so... it's time to lock in

I'll start a 90 day challenge

rules:

- 3 hours of focused study in the morning
- 6 hours (or 2000 hands) of playing (4 tables and 4 tables only. Full focus.)
- 45min+ of hand review after the last session
- Do this 6 days a week. Mondays off.
-Not allowed to skip a single day unless I have a very good reason to. If I'm with friends during the day and I have to play until 5am later on to get everything done, I'll do that.

I'll be tracking my progress like so:

My goal is to complete the challenge for 90 days, no matter what.

I don't have goals regarding bankroll since variance can go any which way.
That being said I'd be happy if I reach $2500 bankroll in 90 days.
Also would be nice to move up to .25/.50 during this time.

No more excuses.

Current BR: $398.70
