AnOther AzOther1 WSOP Semi-Life Trip Report, 2025 version
Gonna be a quick n dirty WSOP experience for me this year. Arriving later today (June 14), to hit the WSOP Event #45 Salute to Warriors tomorrow. No other specific plans, but will be in town thru Wednesday, in case I bink a final table. Odds are against, but, as I think it was Dogface said, someone's gotta win it, might as well be me. I know a few of us are planning on this one, so let's try to make it an all 2+2 Final Table! Good luck us!
Wingman "M" from previous TR will be joining us in LV Sunday afternoon. We started going to Vegas together 20+ years ago, usually to see Rush and spend a few days gambling, or just to gamble. He's using comps to stay at the Paris, but doesn't play poker. Go figure.
I'll be at Ellis Island, perfect for a low balla like me. Cheap craps and clean rooms should suffice. Easy stroll to the 'Shoe or Pho, for b'fast sammies from the Earl pre-tournament. BigWhale mentioned construction/renovation going on at EI, which may be the cause of my cheap rates. I'm bringing earplugs and a sleep mask, hopefully won't be an issue.
What to expect from this TR? Foto dump and tournament recap. Random landscapes, low-grade chip pr0n, poorly lighted food pics, misremembered hand histories, etc. M is very much a creature of habit, so I expect to hit Blueberry Hill at least once. I'd like to try to hit an AYCE sushi joint, but I might have to do that solo, as M's habits have not included sushi in the past.
Plan today is to leave shortly for Flagstaff to visit AzFather1, then head to Vegas from there. Longer day driving then strictly necessary but still feels pretty easy compared to the epic journeys our Euro/Assuie friends have to make. I frequently drive long days out here in the wild, wild west. I can do 2 extra hours in a car seat in my sleep! Figuratively, of course.
Cya soon, Vegas! Can't freakin' wait!
Have fun. GL. There will be a lot of 2P2ers in that Salute event. Let's all make deep runs.
I stayed at Ellis for a chunk of nights in 2023. Perfectly decent room quality and an easy stroll to the Horseshoe food court area. It's a good option. Their restaurants are reasonable by Vegas pricing standards. When I was there in 2023, there was F1 construction happening nearby. It added an element of "is that a jackhammer or am I getting migraine?" to certain stretches of the day, but I don't recall it being a big quality of life problem. Assuming you'll be out and about during day time hours, I would expect most nights to be calm on that front.
Have fun. Win lots of money.

So, there is definitely some construction BS going on, not sure exactly how to get from the hotel lobby to the casino, or from the casino to the street yet. Still need to do some exploring.
Room is whatever. Only need a place to sleep and shower, and this fits the bill. Has a fridge, reasonably quiet AC, and what appears to be a comfortable bed.

It's supposed to be Holy ***** hot this weekend, stay cool, run good.
Table was fun, had a shot with my neighbors, but wasn't prepared to sit in the meat locker that was the Paris convention center. Left down $15 after 45 minutes.
Thought about late night eats from the Bally's food hall, but couldn't decide on anything, so settled for a pilsner from Ellis Island and some VP. $.25 pay tables were not Chainsaw approved (or whoever). 7/5 I think? Anyway, up one beer, down $5.

Not a great night of sleep, but now I'm slightly caffeinated, had a small snack and showered. Gonna head to Earls at PHo, maybe check out the poker room there before heading over to the WSOP for a 10am start.
LFG!
Place is a meat locker. I was in a T-shirt, shorts and sandals. The tequila helped a little.
I did notice they swiped my players card at the table. Does this mean we're earning compa in the WSOP cash games? That's new isn't it?
Yep $2 per hour comps for cash games this year.
Agree it’s absolutely freezing in there. Some areas worse than others. Played the Razz tournament the other day in the Yellow section and it was really bad. I was prepared with a blanket which other players were offering to buy from me [emoji23]

Free beer? Yes, please! Even better it's good EI beer.
GL in the tournament, go get 'em!
And bullet #1 is down. Nothing connected, and I'm out before first break. Embarrassing.
Gonna fire one more after a short break to reset. Back shortly...
run it up!
