WSOP 2024 (6/19 - 6/22) trip summary. Does Vegas/WSOP still offer good value?
I tried more of a live TR last year, didn’t hold up to the rock stars putting out the content this year (rppoker, Pardo,
Congratulations on the cash, but keep running it up!
Good luck!
Good job on the bag. Run it up today. GL
Hope the premium hands get dealt your way.
Well the dreams of unicorns and sugar plum fairies are over. Busted 5th level for 69th out of 7575. No way I could imagined this going any better… But as you know, it always things to get busted before the cash heavy final table.
I’ll try and do a recap at some point in the future, but I’ll say as a cash game person who typically plays 4 to 6 hour sessions and then a break and maybe another session be 12 hour days are really tiring. Especially when I never really had a large stack
Quality of the competition as the tournament went on definitely ratcheted up. I still felt comfortable enough but no for sure that I made lots of mistakes I was reading and watching videos on ICM. I was also trying to understand timing and positioning. My opens today were three but a lot and I had to fold so I believe all of them that is something I need to learn how to better handle as I’m sure I’m being exploited.
Blinds were 40/80/80 ante and I was UTG with 77 and a stack of about 540, 000 total. I shoved and it folded around the small line who sat there and thought and all I could think of is he has 88 or 99 and is really thinking. Sure enough he called with 88. I haven’t looked it up, but I’m guessing that shove is fine. Given my stack size and the fact that I was due to put 160 K in the next hand.
Thanks to those in this thread earlier that commented that I should definitely play the event. Most of the field was very friendly and recreational and also I didn’t feel too overwhelmed by the experience in talent gap. Just watching the 20 and 30 something kids and euros going on break for the other tourneys going on Made me realize that if I do continue to take shots at these tournaments, it’s going to be senior events for all the reasons I listed off.
Looking forward to taking a shot at this attorney again next year and hopefully every year you’re moving forward. I know there’s a couple local circuits that come into town near where I live and may try to track down some of those senior events as well.
That is a phenomenal result, even if bittersweet in the moment. Congrats on the deep run. Hopefully you can celebrate tonight.
Shoving 77 UTG on that stack size is completely standard.
Fantastic result. I'm very happy for you. Savor the experience as you bask in the glow of a deep, deep run.
Great run, congrats!!
Nice job, droopy! You should be very proud of your effort.
Great job! Grats on the cash.
Good Job Droopy!
For a person that wasn’t 100% initially in playing in the Seniors event I would take that result any day!
Did you ever imagine yourself finishing at that sexy position in Seniors before you entered this event?
Congrats, Droopy! I couldn't manage to make it to dinner break, busting in level 7. Could never build any momentum, then had to fold KK to a shove & call on a J-J high board, leaving me with 9K. I spun that up to 38K, then lost half of that with QQ < AA. Finally, squeezed KQdd with 15 BBs after an open and a call. The opener called, & his 99 held to eliminate me. So, it's on to the Super Senior starting Tuesday. Hoping for a better outcome!
(And I agree on your comments regarding these tournaments...they are enjoyable, and the play is still pretty good! Heck, TWO players from my Day One table made the final 19, and one of them was the prohibitive chip leader going into today's final table.)

Sting of the bustout relieved a touch when I went to the window. Never could’ve imagined a deep run, yet it didn’t ever feel like I shouldn’t be there. Will be back for this event in 2026. May also look for some senior events regionally to get more experience in large field tourneys. And find a decent coaching site with videos and charts. My post flop play not the best and how to handle getting 3 bet the last day is something to work on.

Friday took a good walk and ended up at Wynn for their brunch buffet. Had some points which made it half price. Good as I remember. That night grabbed a seat at Binions bar for a dinner - OK steak but with mushrooms and giant cake not worth the $160 tab IMO. Was just average. Played 5-5 PLO Bomb again and lost - experienced younger aggressive PLO players was not a recipe for success.
Saturday night flight had me try the Wynn for 1-3 and 2-5, took a seat in the newly opened 2-5 in the overflow area for a small profit. Made a friend at the table and saw AAAA on board.

Ate 2 meals per day and protein bars in between. Grabbed some walgreens chicken wraps and fruit for day 3, worked out well enough.
In the future I’d like to spend some time out for WSOP. Not sure if a Mr soprano or TJ run of 2 weeks plus, but we will see. Next year likely 5ish days. In a couple years thought driving out might be an option but with parking hassle and driving to and from properties from off strip Airbnb I might be better off hunkering on strip and maybe changing hotels for value or finding someone dumping a timeshare cheaply (which a guy I ran into said they did - 2BR for $800ish for almost 3 weeks). Having a car would make it easier on food prep, gym and occasional off strip activity. For < 1 week trip not worth the hassle for sure.
GL to those still battling!
