Welcome to the 2024 fantasy season, where I'm officially addicted to best ball. I've been drafting since the end of Jan

Some of y'all might be de-sensitized to this already, but I almost spit some coffee out laughing when I saw this:

This was on the SpikeWeek stream today

I try not to be too into player takes for best ball, which is why I'm relatively flat on exposures (4-16%). I don't think Brooks was a bad bet last year. I would make it again. I think he was unlucky that his knee didn't heal as quickly or efficiently as hoped, which is evidenced by him retearing the same knee. But it's all about how much exposure you want to have to certai

I agree knowing who to fade is critical. Every year it seems the best ball universe gives us free squares as far as players to fade. Last year Pittman, Kirk, Stroud, Zamir, Musgrave etc. should have been easy fades at their prices. Stroud was going too high obviously because the Nico, Diggs and Dell owners were fighting for him. I'm not quite sure yet who the free squares are this year. I've just recently become motivated to start drafting again.

I get what you are saying about Brooks. The problem is I was way overweight on him when I should have been leaning towards being under weight. Similar to CMC we were mislead by coaches about when he would be available. The lesson should be buyer be ware when it comes to players coming off injuries.

Last year my plan was to max BBM and play maybe 75 DK Millies. Then I learned how unlikely it was that any of my teams would make a final. That was very deflating. It's probably why I play cash poker and not in tournaments. I need the constant reinforcement of getting paid. I'll just be playing time box tournaments this year. I'm less motivated to put in huge volume knowing how unlikely it is I will reach a final. My love for drafting will keep me in it.

I think player takes are part of the equation for winning in best ball. I get that you want a balanced portfolio. I understand the importance of drafting well and proper roster construction. I enjoy taking deep dives into players. If you can identify a player that could break out and others do not that can be big. I'm going to trust my gut this year. Last year was the first year I did mass entry best ball. I deferred to the "experts" and I don't think it was a great year for them. Had I followed my gut in coordination with my research I would have done significantly better. That being said, another lesson I learned is to be more open to being wrong. I had some blind spots last year to players I never or rarely drafted. I'd always skip over the Chubba Hubbard and Jacoby Meyers as examples.

Re: the 2 v 3 QB debate, there is so much variance, that even with the sims it's probably tough to know what is exactly right since we are only playing a single slate. Overall, I do think that the sims showing that, on average, 3 is probably better than 2 means you should do 3 more often than 2. But that doesn't mean a 2 QB team can't win. Part of Liam's argument is that he

I wonder if leaning more into 3 QB builds early in the draft season makes more sense. Right now many of the depth charts are uncertain which means many of the players we are drafting late are more likely to be zeros. Instead of throwing a dart at one of these players why not grab a third QB? I'm talking about QB's we are confident will have starting rolls. Later in the draft season when we know who the back ups are we can throw more darts and trust more in our two QB builds.

I've always intuitively thought 3 QB's makes sense. I had a bunch of really good teams die because my QB's were both hurt. Also, there could be a situation where your number 3 has a spike week during the playoffs when the elites don't score so well.

Ultimately, how the draft goes should determine how many QB's you roster. Given the chaos that will happen throughout the year I can't imagine that studies or solvers can accurately say whether going two QB or 3 QB is best. We are working off of a very small sample size. Maybe 10 years from now we can start drawing some definitive conclusions. I've had times where I fully intended on going 3 QB but another position player I love feel to me at great value so I took them instead. Sometimes it just doesn't work out do to snipes.

I'm kinda annoyed that some of my fav/intended late round targets have conflicting bye weeks:

QB:
Maye & Bryce both Wk14

TE:
Ferguson (LAR) Wk8 can't pair with Bowers Wk8 or McBride Wk8

Eating a 0 at TE won't kill you. Especially in W8.

I think this about the peak of what I want to invest in a 3 QB team. What do y'all think?

Full team is

Nix, JJM, Tua

Gibbs, Achane, Dobbins, Dowdle, Braelon, Brashard

Wilson, Worthy, Sutton, Jeudy, Addison, McMillan, Wilson, Felton

Jonnu, Kincaid, Taylor

Normally I'd stop at 2 there, but Herzig built this on stream today, which is pretty similar. So I guess it can't be bad lol

Levitan was not happy about that one lol. But Justin made some solid justifications for it. Their RB room ended up pretty rough, though.

I tend to grab Tua when he goes way past ADP. This seems a bit early especially having two solid starters and no Tyreek or Waddle. It's a solid team though.

Schnauzer pick 9

I have a dusty boring QB room. I probably should have gone one more TE. I chose Mitchell to go with Dimes instead.

QB) Stafford, Tua, Dimes

RB) Breece, Harvey, Pollard, R Davis, Benson, Dowdle

WR) Nabers, AJ, D Adams, Waddle, Diggs, Pittman, AD Mitchell

TE) Andrews, Otten

TE can still work. Mitchell could add more to the team than someone like Higbee.

Overall, it’s a cromulent squad.

What's "cromulent"? I've heard the word but don't know what it means.

Burrow, Maye, Shough

Kamara, Pacheco, Mondre, Guerendo, Allgeier, Hill

Chase, Rice, MHJ, Olave, Aiyuk, Mooney, Atwell, Burton

Goedert, Henry, Kmet

SF heroish wr

Tlaw, Stroud, Dimes, Dart

Cook, Hampton, Monty, Mason, Chubb, Sampson, Mostert

JJ, CD, Pittman, J Higgins, ADM, Noel

J Ferguson, Strange, Gesicki

Feels like a top 4 pick in SF is a cheat code (I’ve gotten very few of them unfortunately)

Allen, Penix, Dart, Milton

Cook, Walker, Kamara, Pollard, Allgeier, Shipley, Corum

ARSB, Nico, Flowers, Shakir, Burden, Slayton

Kincaid, Pitts, T Ferguson

Yeah, top 4 is pretty insane in SF. You get an elite QB and either take an upside low end QB1/high end QB2 in rounds 2/3 or know you will still have a starter available in rounds 4/5. Then he can keep picking off the tiers as the draft board flows down. Or you have the elite WRs at the 2/3 or some great RB options between Achane, Brown, Breece, etc. at either the 2/3 or 4/5. Guys like Rice, Tee, Reek, at the 4/5 is also pretty insane.

I've even gotten a little different and done some of the following. Lamar/Love for w17. Take Nico, pull up Stroud. Take BTJ, pull up Trevor. Jayden/Dak happen naturally for w17. You just have so much flexibility.

I've run good on top picks so far. I have 42% of the top 4 QBs over 75 drafts. I'm aiming for 100 SF.

Haha, it's kind of a bit. But it just means adequate or acceptable.

I’ve done half (37) trying to get up to 50. I’ve had 17% t4 haha

Haha that's pretty rough. While the top 4 QBs do provide some nice leverage, I don't mind the back half either. A start of Gibbs/CD feels nice.

I hate being pick 7-9, assuming Burrow/Chase go 5/6. I haven't really been drafting Mahomes, Baker, or Nix, so if they burn me, so be it. I'd rather take RBs/WRs then attack QB at the 3/4 turn.

Caleb/Fields being late 2nd seems wrong too, so I've been taking quite a bit of them with the elites. Kyler is kind of in no man's land in the mid 2nd. I have some of him.

I'm happy UD didn't drop anything new this week. My slows were up to 100, and that's about my peak. Back down to 55. Still need to fire the 25 SF and still have 6 more Schnauzers. Also still need to do my Greyhound, which I think I will this weekend, but that one is filling very slowly. I wonder if they'll drop some new contests on Monday.

Fun team.

Purdy, Stroud, Tua

Achane, Chase, Blue, Allgeier, Roschon, Shipley

Nico, Waddle, Jennings, Shakir, Golden, Aiyuk, Malik, Coker

Kittle, Otton, Schultz

I like that a lot
