1/2: 99 facing heat from spazzy player in 3b pot

1/2: 99 facing heat from spazzy player in 3b pot

V is a spazzy middle aged Asian.

Some context on his tendencies:

Earlier cbet/called JTo vs a tight lady’s raise on J74. Faced heat on turn (3rd club), still called. Then donk-bet river after board pairing — called down by actual flush. So he’s definitely capable of funky lines and calling light, but haven’t seen him raise light postflop.

1/2, $500 eff, 6-handed

I open UTG to $15 with 99.
UTG+1 calls.
V (BB) 3-bets to $45.
I call, UTG+1 folds.

Pot: $105

Flop: 8️8️6
V c-bets $60.

Folding seemed too nitty here given how wide his 3-bet range can be, and that he’s capable of betting hands like AK/AQ here. I call.

Turn: 4
He bets $115. I end up folding.

I know it’s 1/2, but feels like villains like these can triple barrel us to impunity if we keep folding in these spots because we literally never have anything strong on this board and they always have the bigger overpair advantage on these boards while we are capped to JJ type stuff.

standard, can even fold flop if he’s transparent which is very likely w/this config

What about the 32 combos of AK and AQ which will also always cbet flop? We just let them take it down every time we miss our set?

Obv you’re still doing poorly vs range of op’s & AK/AQ and if he telegraphs hand strength w/sizing it’s an easier fold

Pretty sure folding flop is generally printing @ 1/3

I think folding flop is too tight vs an opponent who has shown aggression. Wp as is imo. I don't play much live so take my advice with a grain of salt. If you're concerned that opponent is barreling aggressively this can become a call, but you will also have hands with smoother equity to defend with (FD+overs) that also might block some of his KK. Also JJ if you think TT is in his 3bet range.
I'd make a note of how he barrels and 3bets in future hands because this villain clearly overvalues some of his hands based on the earlier hand history provided. But ap I think this is fine. What's his normal cbet size you've seen? I'm guessing timmay's advice of playing tighter is based on him probably under 3betting and the cbet being large for a 3bp.

i play it the same.

Did you consider folding preflop? You've opened to a very large size from UTG and got 3bet by the BB at 1/2 with another player still to act behind you. Unless you've seen this player 3bet wide more than once already (or do it at least once against an EP open) then I'd strongly consider tossing 99.

What's your plan for the turn if you call flop? What are you doing on a blank? An Ace? A Jack?

Is there a reason why we're opening to 7.5x here.

6betfold seems to open to 15 in all HH ... I don't hate it if everyone is passive (although 12 is mostly better IMO, esp. EP although we are really LJ, and 16 doesn't have the rake problems 15 does), but if we think V can have AQ here then I'd be opening to $8 max.

I don't mind calling pre. if we are sure that V stacks off when a 9 hits ... or are sure we can get to showdown with 99 a decent amount when it's good.

Flop I'd lean fold, calling without 9 (so we have ~4% to hit the flush and virtual nuts).

We also have 88/87s/66 and at least JJ/TT and likely QQ, so it's not like this is top of range (applies to flop and turn).
