Somehow threads merged, so here's part 4 of our ongoing movie discussion.

Presence: Soderbergh shot a movie entirely from the perspective of a ghost/presence/spirit. A family moves into a house and the teenage daughter is carrying much recent trauma. The girl senses the presence and suspects it's one of her friends who passed recently. It's a good movie and I bought unto the gimmick, and they commit to it completely. The techniques he employs with camera movement felt similar to Unsane, a movie he shot mostly on an iphone.
For those of you who have the Criterion Channel, all of The Trip films, starring Ron Brydon and Steve Coogan, both the TV and theatrical versions, are available. Basically, the two guys travel in England, Italy, Greece, and Spain eating at especially great restaurants and doing impressions.
But it's more than just that. Although friends, they are far apart. The divorced Coogan deals with various problems whereas Brydon is happily married and misses his family.
The series and films are directed by Michael Winter bottom.

I love The Trip films, haven't seen them in their original form as a TV series. Will have to give that a watch! I remember watching the first one and I vaguely knew Steve Coogan, wasn't familiar with Rob Brydon (until I looked him up and he's been in so many movies I've watched). It blew me away immediately. I texted my best friend about it and he was like "yeah, Winterbottom is the man. They're making another one soon." I could watch them do Michael Caine and Tom Hardy impressions for hours.
Yes, if you’ve read both the original and Glue. The is a major character in Porno who makes absolutely no sense if you haven’t read Glue, which is why he wasn’t in T2. The main female character is completely different and far more prominent in the book, as is the plot, but the movie one summed up Renton & Sick Boy’s relationship perfectly.
My review of T2: A must for any fan of the original despite a very weak plot and poorly aged Begbie. But McGregor & Miller still have that feral dog’s Newman-Redford magic. The women including a new one are fine but aren’t given much to do, and one is briefly but poignantly missed.

My favorite scene is when Si opens the pub near the end and the auld **** is right there wondering what took him so long! 😃

Misercordia (2024) is an award winning French film on Criterion. A young man goes back to his home French village for a few days for the funeral of his mentor, a prominent baker. During his stay, we see a murder committed. Will the killer get way with it? This plot outline seems predictable but there are unique twists here that will make you think about justice and mercy. I would expect that only the French could make up this storyline. It is well written and well acted with interesting characters. Enjoy.

Casey Affleck is so good in that.

My God, Nicholson is still so bad in The Departed. Haven’t seen it since it was released and my opinion hasn’t changed—Tom Wilkinson in that role and Marty might’ve actually deserved that Oscar.
The Green Knight is a good, dark, twisty knight tale. Well worth the watching, imo. Sir Gawain goes on a quest and maybe he's a hero and maybe he isn't. You gotta make sure you get the movie with Patel, not a documentary that's out there with similar movie poster. It's fooling people into buying it.

Dang, channel it was on cut that out, and it’s been so long I don’t remember it anyway.
Wahlberg wearing a bodysuit & booties but no hairnet, and the silly rat on the 7th floor window ledge could've used a tweak from Jack too, but at we didn’t see Vera walking into Planned Parenthood.
Longlegs - very average imo, idk what I’m missing. Felt formulaic. Cage fun as always tho
28 weeks later - rewatched it in anticipation of the new one. I just love these movies and themes, I’m a sucker for anything where the world is ending. There’s no way this could compare to the first but still think it’s great. The scene where the mom is strapped to the table is brutal as hell
Sunshine is a phenomenal film. In a world of constant “underrated” recommendations, I think Sunshine truly fits the definition.
Seems many people were turned off by the third act, but many people are idiots.
I love Longlegs but can understand why it's not everyone's cup of tea. I loved the slow burn aspect, tension building, and damn near every frame is beautiful. Perkins borrows HEAVILY from Silence of the Lambs and I'm ok with that! I thought he put enough of his own spin on things to have his own voice heard, rather than this being a carbon copy. While Cage's performance was a little over the top in spots, I thought he was very controlled and made all the right choices. I recently picked up the 4K disc and can't wait to revisit.
